Frank,
If you still have the Indexer log please attach it. Attach the other logs as well, just in case.
This looks like a problem a number of people have reported in another thread, which, unfortunately, I can't locate right now.

Will get a full set of logs out after all the updates are finished.
Figure I'll get every last update from Windows update to eliminate anything there. Diagnostic logging is now enabled. So once the updates are finished I am going to give it a shot again... By the Grace of God it will index and I will not need to post new logs...
Thanks Mark!

Frank,
There have been a number of reports of indexer crashes involving Reverse Interlinears, which yours shows. There is one thread here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/35501.aspx?PageIndex=2
The last person to post there (Jerry Self) has the same issue you are reporting. (He is using Logos 4.2b SR-1 while you are using 4.3 RC-1 but the problem is the same.)
Unfortunately no one seems to know how to fix the problem.

Yeah Mark,
Just happened across that thread as it has livened up again. Sure hope Bradley and the gang can get this figured out quick. Just when Logos 4 was finally feeling 95% complete with PBB use to import sermon notes and now I can't get a full install and index to take advantage... Beta or Stable UGH!

We have had several users in the last few weeks reporting this issue. Development is working to track down the issue and apply a fix for it.

That's good to hear Tonya... I hope this get done quickly, because no access is not good! Seems it has been going on for a couple weeks now with no real answers...
Currently trying a couple of Dave's work around installs, because no access is unacceptable...
Just when Logos had me all excited with adding my Sermons through PBB and the release of the Android Beta... Now I can't access my software for study.... SMH!
Update: Well it appears none of the workarounds are working... AND this is with a stable build install now, not beta...
Just when I thought I was finally rid of Libronix installations.... Now we have the features to get rid of Libronix but can't install Version 4! Frustration when I am trying to prepare for class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another observation...
While uninstalling off laptop that will not install I noticed that in the remove programs section that Logos 4 is listed as 10GB on the laptop.
Logos for in the remove programs on the desktop that works perfectly is only 64MB...
Figured I'd throw that oddity out there. Both systems are AMD quad core running Win 7 64 home premium

One more test failed....
Installation from DVD fails just as download does.
I can't even get it to download resources anymore, it crashes there....
I'd be a little less upset with this if the other thread that was first pointed out to me was not THREE weeks and still nothing done!!!!
Are we really expected to go without access for weeks at a time if we get a new computer???
I'm only on day 2, so I hope something gets done asap, because this is crazy!
If you can't rely on Bible Software to work.... SMH

Because there seem to be more problems with installations or even incremental upgrades to L4 than I have been used to with Logos software in the past (and I do know that they are exceptions and not the rule) I make myself have a backup with Libronix; I take the time and effort to maintain it. I would not want to go for days or longer without Bible software and the frustation that ensues. Please do not take what I am saying, Frank, as directed to you. It is just my statement as to how I operate with Logos software and it seemed to fit in with this thread.

Wonder about diagnostic log content ? (e.g. same crash or something different)
Also wondering if Windows Event viewer has any interesting entries related to Logos 4 crashing ?
Curious what anti-virus and anti-malware software is installed ?

Apologies, recently switched from one Windows 7 laptop to a newer one (complete Bible index rebuild took 14m 54.6s vis 35m 41.4s and Library Index done in 1h 26m 54s vis 2h 19m 13s); used rebuild index command on both laptops to see if could replicate index crashing. On new computer, repartitioned hard drive (dedicated 5% of disk for Logos 4 in fastest transfer area), then did a clean install of Windows 7 into 2nd disk partition (C:\), followed by installing Office 2010 and all Microsoft updates (using an administrator account); then installed other programs, including Avast Free anti-virus, Libronix 3.0g and Shibboleth along with assigning drive letter F: to fast partition. Created a standard user for Logos 4, then used Quick Installation onto multiple computers method 1 to custom install Logos 4.3 Beta into F:\ drive.
Option: wonder about creating a Windows virtual machine dedicated to Logos 4. Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions include Windows XP mode (virtual machine).

Finally able to get one of the work around installs to work. Need to spend some time with it to check all resources and features working, but veru frustrating to have to do this for a simple freash install.
The one issue thus far is that to open I have to use "run as administrator" privileges or Logos will crash everytime... Never had to do it before.

Ok, next level of frustration! Based on what I remember and what is listed in the Wiki, because I HAVE to run Logos as admin just to get it to work, I can't use Smart Tags... Because they will not work with Logos or Office running as Admin....

After reading => http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/Vsexpressvb/thread/62f01b9d-bcf3-4289-b78f-705c7669e61d/ ,
wonder about repairing or reinstalling .Net 3.5 Framework ?
Microsoft has .Net 3.5 Framework SP1 download => http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=22
Microsoft also has SDK for Windows 7 and .Net Framework SP1 => http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=3138 (believe SDK includes .Net management console plug-in)

Wonder if not having NET 3.5 installed could be the issue. System only has NET 4 installed.

Yeah it shows as being installed but is listed as NET 4... Made a couple changes and still have to run as admin to be able to use Logos, so I'm guessing that this is something that Logos needs to fix and hopefully they don't take to long...

My Windows 7 uninstall program list includes "Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile", which is used by Shibboleth => http://www.logos.com/shibboleth
Logos 4 uses .Net Framework 3.5; upgrade to .Net Framework 4 is not technically feasible due to 15 month old unresolved bug => https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/545921/old-style-numerals-are-not-rendered-for-runs-containing-only-numbers#details

Did you install L4 using "run as administrator"?

.NET 3.5 is part of any Windows 7 installation and L4 can't run without it, so it will be installed if necessary! .NET 4 is not required for L4 but it won't affect it.

Dave,
I believe it was workaround 1.
I don't think I installed as administrator, though I tried so many things, it could have been.
NET 3.5 is installed based on the add/remove Windows features, but does not show up in installed programs for some reason. Only NET4 shows up there.

From http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers? Because there is a warning not to use Admin elevation!

.NET 3.5 is integral to W7 which is why it is shown as a Feature. Internet Explorer is also a Feature (which might be a M$ synonym for "not easily removed").

Dave,
Just went back to test it and I did not run either install as administrator. Prerequisites requested the permissions as some programs do with the Windows pop-up asking if this program can make changes to install. If I answer no it does not install.
The Logos msi ran without this request, BUT still to run the program without the crash, it has to run with administrator privileges and this is under my user account that has administrator rights.
Come on Team Logos....
I know some disagreed with my complaints about missing features.... BUT
NOW WE ARE TALKING ABOUT RUNNING THE SOFTWARE!!!!
It is inexcusable that a user would even have to go through work-arounds and waste the hours I and others have wasted trying to simply get your software installed and running.
Same issue with beta and stable builds!
It also intrigues me that anyone can go and order a new package or an upgrade without even a mention or warning about this issue that it seems quite a few are having....

Ok can get past run as admin BUT have to run in XP SP3 compat mode to be able to run the program... Which still need me to click yes on the user box allowing it to change to compat mode!

I just saw your earlier crash log and noticed you are running (in Windows 7) version 4.3 RC1, which is still a beta program. So you could you re-post the issue and logs in the PC Beta Forum and state how exactly you installed it ie. if you used a Quick Installation Method which version did your Logos4 folder come from?

Dave,
I had tried both the last stable release as well as the 4.3 RC1 and even went back to the original closed door Beta DVD from the first Beta release of 4.0... All with the same issues.
I copied the Logos 4 files over from another 4.3 RC1 install also running on a AMD Quad Core Win 7 machine. Only difference is that it is a desktop.
I used Method 1

So is there ANY movement on this MAJOR issue??? After hours of wasted time to get a back door installation to work, here comes a program update with resource updates as well and now I keep getting the same stupid indexer crash every time I start Logos or reboot the laptop.
This install issue goes back to the dead horse of the NEED for the user to control what is downloaded. If I had the choice to just update the program and not the resources, I'd still be running smoothly!
So because of this problem:
1. I have to run a patchwork installation
2. Can't install just a program update without again having to run work arounds
3. Waste hours of my time trying to manipulate a program just to get it to work
4. Look at a Logos website that still unless I'm missing it does NOT warn those Toshiba and HP users that there is the potential for not being able to install and index the program on your new laptop. (Very Shady IMHO - Known Install problems - Post it!)
5. This is not a promised feature - THIS IS THE PROGRAM many of us are waiting to use without issue or wasting our time!

Frank,
Very sorry to read of all the frustrating experience you'd had. I'd be spitting nails by now.
Kevin Becker posted on the Run as Administrator issue with a way to get past that once you've set up Logos that way. It is here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/36636.aspx
I wasn't aware the HP and Toshiba laptops had something about them producing these sorts of problems. Maybe you can shed some light on this for me.

Mark,
The run as admin deal was handled with the first call to tech support. For some reason the indexer was installed as needing admin rights. Once cleared the program opened fine.
When I first called tech it was commented that it was primarily seen on Toshiba and HP which are primary AMD builders,
it now as of tonight's 1 hour plus tech support, remote access, no solution event appears to be a AMD A6 and.or A8 quad core chipset with a Radeon video bug....
As for spitting nails - I hope Bob is reading..... Please add the old V3 option to decide what is and isn't installed by checkbox option, this issue could have been avoided if the program only downloaded the program update, thus I'd still be able to run my hacked install fine since I can't clean install.

It looks like you have to run with automatically download updates = NO in Program Settings once you have a working system. When you receive notification of an update you can check the forums to see if a program update has occurred and use the web link to update (NB. a program update is about 45 MB).

Thanks for the information, Frank. It seems as if Logos may be just getting a handle on this. If they do decide it is the processor, they should post a warning. That isn't helping you. I definitely would not automatically download anything as Dave said and would install program updates using direct install until something can be worked out.
Sorry again to hear of your struggles.

We're looking into this issue, but we don't have any progress on a solution yet.
There are a number of customers reporting this same crash. One thing that all affected systems have in common is that they are using a "Llano" model CPU from the AMD Fusion family (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_Fusion). It may be coincidence, but this CPU has only been available since mid-June and we started receiving the first crash reports in early July.
I've looked at one dump file of the crash and it revealed it to be a "should not happen" error (that's a technical term [:)]). So far, this may be the strangest crash I have ever seen.
I'm very reluctant to blame the hardware, since problems are almost always caused by software, but it is very odd that it only happens on AMD Fusion chips. We're going to keep investigating and will try to get to the bottom of it.

Cross Post to ensure you get it, hopefully this will help in your debugging process; Setting the affinity of logosindexer.exe to a single core (core 0) on my A6 allowed me to successfully complete the index process.
0 -
Jonathan,
How are you able to change the settings to single core? I just got a new HP dv6 with an A8 processor and indexer is crashing all the time. It keeps saying in the log file that it has to do with a read/write problem on protect memory... I am having no other problem with this new laptop other than Logos.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, I'm having a problem with the Indexer too, and I have an HP with an AMD A8 Quad Core processor. My indexer log file says:
"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."
I changed it to single core, and now it is maxing out that one CPU at 98-99%!!
Yey! I got to 5% progress! If you don't hear from me again, assume that this is working now. Thank you!

Thanks Bradley, Jonathan, David and Kevin! [:)]
My Logos 4 is now completely indexed and the installation is finished. Thank you for the help. Limiting the process to one CPU took care of the problem. Hopefully this bug will be fixed so that future users will not have to waste a lot of time like I did. It appears that the index software has trouble with this AMD quad processor.
