With the expected upgrade in processor and resolution, will performance of Logos app be helped significantly by new iPad release, assuming there is to be such a release announced tomorrow.
Will the resolution upgrage make reading on the iPad a better experience? Will speed be improved? Will the new iPad handle pdf files better?

Not unless/untill Logos releases a high res version of the app.
Michael Childs:Will speed be improved?
For some things. It should be noted that the mobile app does quite a few things "in the cloud." I don't know how much faster this will become.

I'm in agreement with you except on this point - if the iPad 3 follows the pattern of the iPhone 4, apps not yet optimized for retina displays will still have high resolution text, just not graphics. Since Logos is mostly text, I would expect a retina display to make the experience better right out of the box.
This is pure speculation but I wonder if Logos has been holding off on the next Logos for iOS update until the iPad 3 announcement so they can have double-resolution graphics on the day of release.
And of course the whole LOGOS / SIRI thing could be real interesting

I would hope that IF this is what they are doing they would say something, because the more communication that comes to the way of the user of the app the less frustration there would be. The term "very soon" was used with notes and highlighting and about six months later it appeared. Now we have seen a notice that says a "few days". In my way of thinking a few days is two or three maybe four at the max, now it has been over a week since reading plans were taken off the app and no word of progress has been said. Alabama has done some of this, letting us know at what stage the app is at. I believe the last he said was RC3.
I guess my question would be, how much effort does it take to post a brief progress report to keep people updated. All I know is this, the more communication the better.

I don't think there is any truth in the speculation. Logos would not delay this update for the new hardware. By the way, this morning, the beta went to RC4. I have no inside info on release info, but my guess is that reading plans will go back online upon the release of 2.1.
Thanks Alabama for this update, at least we know where it stands right now. I am glad they are still working out the days.
Keep up the good work. It is appreciated.

Only if Apple lets the third party apps in with an API related to Siri. If they don't the only thing we will get is dictation through the keyboard, which we already have.

Yep. And as cool as it would be, I'm not holding my breath.
During the iPad 3 presentation, Apple claimed that iPad 3 will upscale text without any necessity on the part of app developers to update their apps. However, they did say that if the developers take the time to update their apps, the results will be all the better. Seems like the Logos iOS app will benefit from iPad 3 straight out of the box!

Sounds like that to me too!
sounds interesting, have to say am tempted, just as well I have no money to be silly with

Let me modify my statement… I don't think Logos would delay the mobile release because of the updated hardware… An update to the OS is another story. I have no idea if the devs had access to iOS 5.1 (which was released today) or not. By the way, I am downloading the update to my iPhone & iPad as I write. Hopefully nothing in the new version of iOS breaks the app!

Alabama,
Post your experience with the update and the Logos app. I plan on doing the update after Bible Study tonight.
Kenneth Neighoff:Post your experience with the update and the Logos app.
The update is finished and I quickly used the app without incident. I will have to give it a more rigorous run later. I have to get the kids to church now.

Thanks for the update.
Just the kids.
With Apple adding siri voice dictation to iOS 5.1, wonder about dictating notes in Logos ?
By the way, Apple has reduced refurbished iPad 2 prices => http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad plus can pre-order the new iPad.

alabama24: Michael Childs:Will the new iPad handle pdf files better? Do you mean speed in viewing / changing pages?
Yes, for a large pdf, the iPad 1, which I have, is just not very good. Frustrating to try to read is the way I would describe it. If you have to wait 10 to 15 seconds almost everytime you turn a page, it is annoying and useless. A relatively small pdf file is okay, but a large one - no way.
I suspect it is just a horsepower problem. In fact, it may be much better on iPad 2. I chose to skip that upgrade for several reasons. (Mostly, my finances.) I believe iPad 3 may solve my problem.
I also think it is very likely that Logos will quickly come out with a high res version. To do otherwise is to become obsolete before long, and Logos is too smart for that. With twice the pixels on the screen, the text should look pretty good.
With more processing power to work with, it may be possible for more features to be done on the iPad, rather than in the cloud. That would be helpful.
Keep Smiling 4 Jesus :): With Apple adding siri voice dictation to iOS 5.1, wonder about dictating notes in Logos ?
It looks like voice dictation is built into the system keyboard, so I bet Logos won't even need to update their app to work with it!

Indeed. I don't know how useful this will be in the near future. For what its worth… If you have an iPhone 4s, you can do this now (I just tried). To enter John 3:16 you need to say "JOHN THREE COLON SIXTEEN"
