Just a quick question. Although I am used to the New Testament counter part of this set, I was a bit surprised by the symbols that show up on my screen.

    image

E.g. verse 16, is it supposed to look like this?

    Thanks! André

No, it looks like you either need an font update or that the Default Font you have selected in Tools | Settings-Program Settings |  Fonts-Hebrew Fonts may be overriding the Libronix Unicode Symbols that should be displaying. I recall the same thing happening with the Greek resource when Logos 4 first shipped.

---UPDATE: I just tried swapping fonts--both Hebrew and Default--and could not replicate the issue. This points toward either a missing font or font caching issues. In the latter case, the updating of the font doesn't take effect because Windows employs a caching of the old version for some reason. I'd contact Technical Support about about the matter.---

Check to make sure you have the Libronix Unicode Symbols installed as a font, it should have been updated with a Logos 4 service release that went out 6-8 weeks ago. Also check to see which Hebrew Font is selected. I am using SBL Hebrew and things show up properly. If this does not take care of things, contact customer technical support so we can look into the issue more closely. There was an issue with Windows caching fonts or something, but the explanation was above my pay grade. There was a fix, but I'd not be able to recount what I was told. Hope this helps.

André, I was having the same problem. A reboot seems to have fixed the problem, as I had not rebooted my computer since downloading this resource.

How will this show up in our account?  Will it continue to use yesterday's date?  I am not attempting to cause a problem or spew "sour grapes," but it will be most unhelpful to have yesterday's date in the account.  I would rather see it remain "under contract" until completed.  Maybe some other designation is more appropriate.  Something beside yesterday's date will be helpful to know when the project is close to completion because I do not intend to download it until it is completed.  There are just too few dollars to go around.

Mark, this will continue to say "shipped 10/9/2012" — I do apologize of this is an inconvenience to you. Because we have never done this before and do not plan on doing it again, there is no perfectly clean category for this project. Because of many factors, we had to make it live, and not let it stay on Pre-Pub any longer.

If you place your pre-order again, you can convert it to a live resource at any time until the final completion. When the project is complete it would be charged out like a normal prepub if you had not already converted.

Angel, at this point users can no longer place a pre-order. The deadline for pre-ordering was 10/9. Everyone who did not pre-order it and wishes it purchase it, it  will be treated like any other live product: their card will be charged right away, and Genesis–2 Kings will download.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

I am having the same problem as Andre. (this is what I mentioned a few posts back about polish) Notice the attached capture showing the difference in symbols between the testaments. I do have the Logos Symbols Unicode font installed.

Perhaps this is a better comparison since Phil 1:9 and Gen 1:16 both contain "forward pointing target" and they are both in original language

I'll raise the issue with technical support. There were some shifts in the font for the LDHB project. The symbols used to live as CAPS in the Libronix Symbols font, which is used in the LDGNT. For the LDHB, they were moved to the extended Unicode domain of the Libronix Symbol Unicode font. This is why you see a disparity between the testaments--don't take this as a theological statement.  :-)

LaRosa's rebooting may have cleared out the font cache, but I really don't understand the details. If those of you who are encountering this glitch could tell us what platform (Mac/PC), OS, and version of Logos you're running, we'll see if we can find a quick remedy.

I get the same incorrect symbols too, I have the Unicode Libronix font installed, and have restarted Logos and my computer with no effect.

  • David Thomas
David Thomas Member Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭

I have also noticed (it may be intentional) that in the LDGNT if I hover over text then the discourse element(s) and parsing are in the pop-up, but if I hover over the symbol then I get a pop-up of only the Discourse element.

in the LDHB i get the same results if I hover over text, but hovering over the symbol gives me nothing.

While I am offering suggestions (and I realize this is just an "eye candy" thing and comes later than tagging the data). The following capture from the HDOT Glossary seems to have some of the symbols slightly to the right of where they should be so that they overlap the next letter. I believe I noticed some of the same thing in the LDHB with certain symbols.

    image

Again, let me say I am PLEASED to have this resource (even in the incomplete format) and appreciate all the hard work that goes into making this available!

Since the process is different, I have just been attempting to make sure it is clear.  I think it will be a great product and I am thankful that Logos is behind this.  I have gone "all in" on Logos and no long buy paper books and have sold off much of my library.

What I think (and no one has asked me) would have been the better option is to match the price with the released material and then as the rest of the material is released, one pays for that portion of the release.  In other words, if 40% of the material is now available, have us pay 40% of whatever pre-publication price we locked in at.  When the next 20% is available, have us pay 20%, etc.  This would require a little more accounting work, but it is very possible.  This is not a "payment plan" because one is paying for the material actually released, just not the paying for the unreleased material.  This is more about Logos and not Steve (get back to work on Romans!).

I have been able to accomplish far more as Scholar-in-Residence at Logos than I ever could have teaching in a college or university. I had expected it would take me 7-10 years to annotate the GNT and hopefully write the Greek discourse grammar. It was done in less that three thanks to Logos' support,

    Fascinating account.

The team here has also helped me simplify my ideas to make them more accessible to non specialists. This simplification has not been a dumbing down. Instead it has forced me to gain a much greater depth of understanding in order to make the presentation more understandable, to simplify the message while maintaining the precision.

This phenomena also exists in other fields of endeavor, e.g. engineering.

    Keep up the good work!

Is the "Libronix Symbols Regular" the font you are referring to? I seem to have that one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is anyone encountering this problem with
the symbols showing properly who is NOT running Windows?

    Since an
existing font was updated, it's sounding like the font cache issue.
Spoke with Tech Support and they should have a how-to forthcoming. For you adventurous souls who crave adventure, try deleting the temp font cache, rebooting should rebuild it. I'll forward the link to the new thread to CS. Thanks for the feedback.

    [:)] I just received mine.

Is there someway to link up (similar to L3's Serial Resource Set) both the HDOT(ESV) and HDNT(ESV) so that when I enter OT or NT bible reference in any one of these HD Bible it will bring me to the correct HDNT or HDOT automatically.

Useful for a Layout where I want both HD Bible in one Panel in the Layout.

Take a look at Resources like Wiersbe's Expository Outlines on the OT & NT it works the way I wished HDNT and HDOT should work when I enter a OT Bible Ref in HDNT(ESV) or NT Bible Ref in HDOT(ESV). So, it can be done [:)] may be it is not called Serial Resource Association.

Actually, coming to think of it, I suspect the HDOT/HDNT issue could be solved by Logos simply adding a series tag to them. Let's see what Steve has to say about that the next time he drops by.

I talked to the guy about the thing. He said to close L4, reopen, then link the resources. It just worked for me having NIV and HDNT linked in the A set. I entered an OT passage (in the Gen-2Kin data released!!) in the HDNT command window, and it switched to the HDOT and navigated to the proper passage. This should take care of what you were looking for.

The Greek and Hebrew resources will still need to exist in separate tabs, but the ESV resources should behave as requested. It might take a few hours to percolate out, but it is on its way if you can't get the association to work immediately.

    Steve,

I am happy [:)] to report that that both sets of resources (HDNT & HDOT) and (LDGNT & LDHB) are working as a serial resource set (ie. I can have one tab for HDNT/HDOT and another tab for LDGNT/LDHB), I noticed the "series" metadata information is there now [:)] Thank you!

PS: Just wondering about the naming convention, just curious, especially, when I am starting to tag all my important resources:

    1) Why LDHB and not LDHOT [:)] when you already have LDGNT for your Greek Discourse Bible.

    image

    2) Why without the article "The" for LDHB vs the rest of the Lexham resources [:)]

That particular one should not have been charged unless you specifically authorized it. This is because it is not yet "finished". Those who needed it for seminary or really wanted it got it. The rest of us were told we could wait for a year until it was completed.

I just checked into this, Bill. It looks like the mistake was on our end, the wrong Cook was charged. The order is being canceled and the returned to prepub status.

No cards are to be charged before the resource is completed, unless you specifically request, as SteveF has stated.

Serial resource association worked for me up until recently. I just checked checked the "Series" tag in my Logos library, and lo and behold, only LDGNT and HDNT are tagged! LDHB and HDOT apparently lost their tags at some point. Is anyone else having this problem? Did it arise with a recent update to the Lexham Discourse Bible series?

By the way, Steven, all of your discourse resources have been very useful to me. Thank you for your labor! Now, I am anticipating the release of Isaiah and Jeremiah in LDHB. Logos would also benefit if it offered Stephen Levinsohn's writings.

Yes, Steven Runge has indicated that it is running behind schedule (as are updates for LDGNT).

An update was just released on March 26th for Ezekiel through the minor prophets, so the Law and the Prophets are now complete. That just leaves the Writings (besides lots of updates/corrections elsewhere), which I imagine could take quite a bit of work.

Edit: I will also add that Runge recently gave the following timeline in an interview with Brian W. Davidson: "We have finished marking the discourse features for Genesis-Jeremiah; Ezekiel and the Twelve should ship by Easter. The initial version of the database should be completed this summer." Hi Adam,

Thanks for announcing the recent release of the Ezek-minor prophets update!

Psalms has been completed as well and is now in post production. It should be released soon. I hope to finish the book of Job within the next couple of weeks, with the balance of the writings to follow over the next few months.
