hi everybody

I currently own logos 4 Platinum version with many other add-on books

if I upgrade to the starter logos 5

will this package pick up all the books I currently own in version 4?

If I purchased the starter package will it install over my version 4?

and indicate that I am using a platinum version

I've recently upgraded to Windows 7

I don't want to lose my platinum vision library

appreciate any help

Mick, if you are asking if by buying L5 platinum you will be credited for your current resources, that is Logos' intent.

Be sure to use their upgrade calculator, and click on the "New To You" link--you should see the black dots change in the right column--those are the "new" resources for you. However, be sure to manually compare against your library--you may have disputes with what the website tool thinks you own.

If you buy a lesser package in L5, I'm not sure what happens--I'd think you would keep your resources, and just get less new databases...but defer to a Logos person for the right answer.

I have the same question. It's not clear - how much does Logos 5 cost? I have L4Platinum. Couldn't I just upgrade the software for free? If this truly costs me hundreds or thousands of dollars, I'm not so sure I'm a fan anymore. Not so sure I would have made the initial investment.

Michael,

You won't loose any resource you've purchased with Logos - ever. That's Logos promise. They'll keep it unless a copyright issue forces them to withdraw a work they don't have the right to distribute.

If you upgrade to Logos5, it will install over Logos4 for all your devices, unless you disable updating in those other devices.

Yes, it will pick up all the books you currently are licensed for in Logos4.

For full functionality, you may want to purchase a crossgrade, rather than a starter package. Crossgrades are not available yet, but should be soon. Given that you are now at Platinum with L4, there is more functionality that you'll get by crossgrading than by going with the starter package. I'd recommend waiting for the crossgrade for now, if what you want to do is minimize your expense.

Joe, L5 itself won't cost anything, but the new functionality will. We're waiting on the crossgrade to find out how much that will cost, but I'm assuming it will be less than upgrading to one of the new packages - but I don't have any inside information.

You're essentially correct. You never lose resources. You only pick up the new ones that you pay for. For an extreme example someone on the L4 Portfolio could "downgrade" to the L5 starter and still keep all of the old resources and just pick up the resources in L5 starter that they didn't have before.

I get a library of Books 1,327

I have always upgraded when a new version comes out but it's never cost this much

You're essentially correct. You never lose resources. You only pick up the new ones that you pay for. For an extreme example someone on the L4 Portfolio could "downgrade" to the L5 starter and still keep all of the old resources and just pick up the resources in L5 starter that they didn't have before.

From what I can tell though you don't get many of the new features with starter. And why should someone with portfolio be forced to downgrade?

I would also be concerned that you would lose access to non-resource engine tools which had an analog in L4 (I'm thinking of language tools/etc which might go away if s.o. with portfolio bought a starter engine).

First, be sure you are logged into the Logos web site. Then click on Upgrade on the Home Page:

On the page that appears next, you can click on Platinum along the top ribbon of the chart shown, and 'New to you' to see a list of what you will be getting if you upgrade from Platinum 4 to Platinum 5. There will be a cost listed (I've removed it from my example). That is the cost to get the new databases, plus the new content listed. You will retain your previous content as already pointed out. Your upgrade price from the L4 to L5 libraries of the same collection should not be too steep.

The number of books it lists is not what you are getting new with an upgrade, so ignore that number. It isn't calculated for upgrades.

Gold is the standard where you get to play with ALL the Logos features. Gold is the new Scholar's (so to speak).

That's because the changes between Platinum 4 and Platinum 5 are more significant this year. When there's been previous base package refreshes, you've probably only ended up with a couple of dozen additional resources. This time it will be much more. There's no reason why you can't upgrade to Gold if the Platinum price is too high for you. You'll keep everything you have from Platinum 4 if you do.

Others have provided the link to download the Logos 5 engine for free. Be aware, though, that if you do this you will still not be able to take advantage of new features with L5. To use the new features you have to purchase the datasets that go with the engine. When you upgrade to a higher or lower L5 package, you get these datasets (though not all of them come with all packages).

With L4 Logos offered a "crossgrade" which allowed users to purchase just the datasets. They have not yet offered it with L5 but have said it will show up after the initial introductory pricing ends for L5. If you wait until this time (they haven't said how long that is) then you can do the crossgrade and use L5 with your current resources for a lot less money than if you upgrade your current package.

they've totally revamped them. Remember to pay attention that you can "downgrade" and still "upgrade." You could, for instance, by Gold and gain some new resources, and enjoy full Logos 5 functionality. The compare resources page on the website will (if you are logged in) dynamically adjust each package by what you own. You can, for instance, select to see those books in each package that would be new to you. Pretty cool help.

I never used the language of force. It's not that simple. L5 introduces a lot of new databases that aren't covered by a simple look at what new books are gained. A lot of the upgrade is paying for the development of those data sets. I haven't decided yet but I might "downgrade" to Gold from Platinum because of the cost issue. Sure, I won't like loosing the "status" of being at a particular level. As always it's an individual cost-benefit analysis; I can't imagine someone with L4 portfolio wanting to add just the stuff that is new to Starter but it is technically possible whereas before we could only do a crossgrade or upgrade.

As near as I can tell, which admittedly I can't tell is accurate because their information is so poorly presented, it will cost $460 to go from Gold L4 to Gold L5, which is hardly "not too steep" for what appears to be a bunch of "junk" resources and the new databases. Count me out for the insanely priced upgrade. I mean, seriously, 1/3 of the cost of the L4 Gold library to run L5. Don't think so, Logos.

I just checked the books on the webpage and I have got most of these already in my library

they are not updated versions

there must be something going wrong on the website with existing customers, when the web page database works out the costs for a upgrade

is not taking in account all my library

The enhanced functionality and the new databases are the real jewels of L5. Check out the Youtube videos and you may agree.

If you are not wanting any new books wait on the crossgrade or talk with a salesperson to gain the benefits of L5 at a cheaper price. In a few weeks the crossgrade should be available.

No actual oxymoron, but I can see how you might think so. What I meant to say was something like this: Logos5 will function much like Logos4 with the free upgrade. To get the extra new features available to Logos5, that are not in Logos4, you will have to pay something.

Is that clearer?
