Very few, if any resources were added to my library with the L5 Starter upgrade from my L4 Bible Study Library. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I basically received the $159 MC in two installments.

I followed the same path you did. I had to "undo" my previous MC purchases and then after all was said and done, I saved $$ and ended is at the L5 Starter Package with the MC which added some 20 new resources to me library. Logos customer service was quite excellent in helping me out on this. Thanks for posting! Saved me money while expanding my library.

I just want to add that I had L4 Gold and jumped into the minimum cross grade for $139 and saw that the upgrade to silver L5 was about $259. I called customer service who cancelled my cross grade and then I upgraded from L4 gold to L5 silver for $295 and then added the minimum cross grade for $6.00.
Thanks to this forum and Logos customer service (which has been excellent and have gone over and above) I have saved about $100.

We are working to reverse this behavior so that owning CD or MC does not equal having purchased a Logos 5 base package and you'll still qualify for the L4 to L5 upgrade discounts. Unfortunately, it is not as trivial as we had hoped.

We do and always have taken the content gained through an MC purchase into consideration when calculation discounts on future upgrades. It is certainly not excluded.

Phil, when owning the MC the way it is working right now, the price for an upgrade goes up rather than down. When someone buys all the data sets and resources of the MC and then sees it will cost more to upgrade than before the purchase of the MC what is he/she supposed to conclude? They own about $150 worth of the upgraded package and the price has gone up. Even if discounts have changed it appears that a lot of that $150 is not being factored into the upgrade price. Makes me wonder.

(1) The change in tiered discount structure accounts for the increase. What was a 15%, 20%, or 25% discount becomes a 5%, 10%, or 15% discount.
(2) You're not going to get $150 worth of your MC purchase off of an upgrade for the simple reason that the discount off SRP is much higher in the base package upgrades than it is in the MC. Because of the different discount levels, what costs $150 in MC may amount to only $50 of value in a base package. The ownership discount you receive when you purchase a base package has nothing to do with what you paid for the overlapping content; it has everything to do with the weight that content makes up in the destination package.
You always want to acquire books in the most deeply discounted packages to ensure you get the maximum dynamic pricing discount on future purchases. So even when we've reversed the behavior under discussion, it's still going to be in everyone's best interest to buy the product with the higher discount first (i.e., the base package) and then buy the product with the lower discount (i.e., Minimal Crossgrade).

Definitely unimpressed with the pricing - I'm being offered it for $150 from L4 Scholar's Library: Silver (LE). That's $90 more than going for the Starter edition.
When the crossgrade deal was being promised - just the new engine and core resources to take advantage of it, I expected it to cost a lot less.
I think I'll stick with L4 on my Mac.

If you were to buy "Starter" first, then they will drop the price of the "cross-grade" [I'm just not sure how much.I'm pretty sure that mine dropped by the exact amount that I had just spent on "Starter"--if you are doing this it is better done in 2 steps--base package and then Cross-grade, etc].
[You are right, though,, $150 when you are at a Scholar's level looks too high. It is really NO discount at all. Did you make sure that you were logged in before going to "Products/Upgrade"? to check out that price? The website price generator can be very troublesome sometimes in terms of its accuracy].
I really would contact someone in Sales if you cannnot get that price to go lower.

Yes, I was logged in and the site told me what I had and that I was entitled to a £5.70 discount (~$8). I actually look on that level of discount as an insult, considering how much I've spent over the years (from early Libronix LLS days). And considering their licensing rules meant I had to buy a separate version for my wife...

I suppose we're sort of re-starting the discussion here, but having 'scholars' or 'platinum' or even 'portfolio' seems irrelevant to the question?
The crossgrade for all practical purposes is mainly just buying the databases (sense, referent, root, etc) plus the extensive lookup capability in probably hundreds of resources. The normal 'equivalent' would be for them to call it the Lexham OT Sense Lexicon and charge $99 etc. If I were Logos, that's what I would have done.
Here one gets the whole caboodle for about $150 or so. I thought that was a significant bargain. Of course my primary interest for Logos4/5 are the original languages, so probably I'm biased.
Escaping the $150 or so is feasible this spring with the free L5 engine being made available (but without the new databases).

The issue I have is two-fold:
1) We were told there would be an inexpensive crossgrade from L4 to L5 - I don't call $150 inexpensive.
2) Being offered a discount <$10 is insulting.
Logos isn't alone in companies issuing regular "upgrades" - each time new facilities are offered in a new version when what is really needed is to get things working properly in the old. Even more annoying is finding I lose things in an upgrade. In going from L3 to L4 I lost the sermon builder facility; luckily, I had a backup database in Excel which I now use but annoyed at losing the use of an add-in for which I'd paid. Going to a Mac, I've also lost the handout facility, something I'd just started to find a use for (and I needed to seriously upgrade my 4 year old PC as L4 stretched it beyond usability).
I'm afraid, at $150, I'll stick with L4.

Still not convinced - still around $150 for the upgrade and I'm losing confidence with it.
As far as the sermon file add-in is concerned, that update came through very recently but doesn't work - the drop-down lists of tags doesn't scroll. Even the language choice doesn't drop below Dutch. Not impressed. Besides, all the work done building my former file under L3 is lost. I have to go back to the original Word files, convert them each to docx format, then use the spreadsheet I've had as a backup tracker to add everything back in, one at a time. No thanks - if Word files and a spreadsheet have survived several software upgrades, whereas the Logos scheme fell at the first, I'll pass.
And I run Windows as a virtual machine for software that doesn't run under Mac - I had thought of doing that for L4 but I prefer working under Mac OS. Besides, I'm now finding other ways to do better what L4 does after a fashion. I'm using Logos less and less - I've found another Bible app for basic reading (especially on my iPad) and taking notes; I only use L4 for basic research on a new sermon.

Have you considered core essentials or waiting a month or two for the FREE engine that is coming in first quarter 2013?

I ended up buying the Starter Package + Min Crossgrade... Grand total (given Platinum + many CP purchases ~ 5,000 books) was about $120 for both vs. $106 for just the Min Crossgrade. The added resources in the Starter that I DIDN'T have made the combined purchase worth it... Call sales & see if they can work some magic on a package deal for you, too... TALKING with them will ALWAYS result in a better deal than you could get on-line.
For me, 2 factors always play: can't afford much, so total cost is ALWAYS an issue; and, if the resources don't justify the cost I could afford, I still walk away.

I'm not Mark, but: due to the dynamic pricing calculator, when you did pay for it, it's now $0.00 since you own all of its components.

Thankful for Logos 5 full screen in OS X 10.8.2 plus Thankful for visual filter highlighting that can show range of verbal expression in a passage:
Visual filter highlighting can combine hundreds of search results for display at the same time. English is not Greek. Greek has a wider range of verbal expression. Matthew 6:9-13 has seven verbs in the imperative (command) mood. Some verbs in Matthew 6:6, 6:9, 6:13 and Philippians 4:8 are in the middle voice, which has a reciprocal relation between thought and deed.
Thankful for visual filter highlighting that works in Logos 4 and Logos 5. With root tagging in resources, Logos 5 can do more visual filter highlighting.
