Running Logos app on Sony PRS-T2 e-reader

I am considering to buy a Sony E-reader. I am looking at Sony PRS-T1 as well as PRS-T2. I would like to root the reader in order to be able to run the Logos app (see http://community.logos.com/forums/p/548/447915.aspx). But I'm in doubt whether to go for PRS-T1 (which is still for sale, although not for long anymore) or for the PRS-T2.

I would expect Logos app to run on the PRS-T2 as well, but I read on the internet that the rooted PRS-T2 is still unstable (http://liliputing.com/2012/10/you-can-root-the-sony-prs-t2-ereader-install-android-apps.html).

What do you think? Buy a PRS-T2 or better PRS-T1 for this purpose (besides reading other books on the reader of course). Think the Logos app will run stable as it does on the PRS-T1?

Honest opinion - don't go for something that is cheap, has a modified Android OS, doesn't have access to the Google Play Store and has to be rooted to run apps

course, in general I agree with Dave's advice, but unfortunately this
is the only e-reader (with an e-reader display) that I know of that can
run Logos. For reading books (especially the ones Logos classifies as "monographs") it's an interesting option... as long as Logos continues supporting v2.2 of Android anyway.

I agree with Devin. It's the combination of a e-reader (e-ink) display with logos that is attractive. But buying something with the risk that it will not be supportedfor long time because of an old Android version is also not an option.

That's a wise question...currently the % of our users who run Android 2.2 is less than the % of users who ran 2.1 when we started work on the Android apps, and it's reducing very quickly. While dropping support for 2.2 is not imminent, and we don't want to leave users out in the cold, I personally would be surprised to see 2.2 survive another year. Simply put, the cost of supporting an OS like Android 2.2 that is 9 API revisions behind is quite high when the user base is very limited (Android 2.1 has < 1% right now) -- not just in overhead, but it limits what we can do for users who are on the latest versions too.

If you're getting a device, I would strongly suggest *at least* Android 2.3, and try to get 4.x if possible.

For me it's between an android based (e-ink) e-reader on which Logos will run at least a few years, or an non-android e-reader that has other nice features. I won't go for a device knowing that support for Android 2.2 is likely to be dropped soon (which is an understandable thing). In that case I consider going for a Onyx T61 HD (http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2012/06/05/new-onyx-boox-i62-ebook-reader-has-hd-pearl-screen-and-ir-touch/). In that case I will be converting (parts of) books from Logos to PDF in order to read, highlight and mark (because my main purpose is to have something to read books and articles on, not having to stare at my lcd screen all day).

I use an ipad right now I don't know much about android. Do you think there would be any problems running Logos on android 4.0??

That does look interesting. I'm currently using a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 inch, mainly because it's such a pain to use my Logos books on my Kindle Touch, but also in part because I do want the capability to transfer highlights and notes between my tablet and computers.

In general, the 7 inch tablets and e-ink readers are too small for my liking. The 8.9 inch display on my Kindle Fire is "OK", but I've really wanted a reasonably priced unit with a larger display. The Onyx 9.7 inch e-ink unit running Android 4.0 (and able to run higher versions) is getting close to what I would consider the ideal display type/size combo for most of what I want to do with Logos on a tablet.

My ultimate device would be an 11 to 13 inch non-glare e-ink color display with 16-20 hours battery life, running either Android or full-blown windows. I wouldn't care if the display was something other than true e-ink as long as it was comparable to an e-ink display experience. But I don't expect to see such a device coming round the corner in the near future.

I read that, amazon might be making a color ink kindle. That could be cool if it has android like on the kindle fire.
