Logos 4.0a RC 2 available for testing

Logos 4.0a Release Candidate 2 is now available for testing. We believe this version is stable enough to install and use as your primary version of the software.
We are actively working on the features listed at http://www.logos.com/4/missingfeatures; the features that are not included in this update did not meet our stability or performance criteria for being included in 4.0a.
New Features
- Search Analysis grid in Bible and Morph searches (to access it, click "Analysis" next to "Grid | Verses | Aligned" after running a search)
- Bible Text Only visual filter (to access it, use the "Visual Filters" button in the toolbar of any Bible)
- Ctrl+Alt+B opens Copy Bible Verses from any Windows application (if Logos 4 is running; use Program Settings to customize)
- Help > Explain the screen
- Index Merging reduces the time it takes to build a full library index when adding new books
- Redesign of the Cited By tool
- More Highlighting styles (listed in Tools > Highlighting)
- New look for Topics and Important Words in Passage Guide
- Ctrl+H opens History
- Added Visual Bookmarks and Resource Panel Background settings (in Program Settings panel)
- Home Page ribbon can be customized (click "Customize" in the bottom-left of the home page)
- Improved performance in many areas of the application
Major Bug Fixes
- Copy Bible Verses can copy multiple verses
- Parallel resource navigation wraps around from the end of the list to the beginning
- Explorer (previously “Bible Explorer”) remembers closed sections
- Default font size is properly applied to new notes
- Added hit counts to concordance results in Bible Word Study sections with a ring graph.
- OpenText clause analysis shows glossary tooltips for nodes
- Bible Word Study guides are case-insensitive
- Bibliographic citation in Clippings uses the default format from Program Settings
- Fixed bugs in picking a single part of speech in the Morph Picker
- Hebrew untransliteration supports standard punctuation (e.g., apostrophe for aleph)
- Added “set custom chrome to no” command to work around problems with window resizing or black title bars
Minor Bug Fixes
- Lots and lots
To install it, download and run http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/InstallerBeta/Logos4Setup.exe
Important Note: Running the Logos4Setup.exe program from the above link will permanently upgrade your system from Logos 4.0 (v4.0.3.3272) to Logos 4.0a (v4.01.3.4533). While there is some risk to running a testing version of the software, this is a Release Candidate that should be suitable for general use. Logos 4.0a will automatically import all your documents and resources from 4.0 if it is installed on top of your existing copy of the software.

It will replace any Logos 4 installation you currently have on your system. You will keep any files you have created.

When I drag content from a book into Word, it does not give me a footnote. When I right click on the content and select copy in L4, then paste the content into Word, the footnote shows up. If I set the footnotes to be copied over, shouldn't it happen whether I drag it or copy and paste it manually?
Love Logos 4. Thanks for all your hard work.
I'd love to have my macros work with L4 like they did in L3...

I downloaded this but it is constantly reindexing...it will index for about 4 hours...then the icon disappears ...I think it is through...I close it....reopen it and it starts the indexing over again...it has done this at least 4 times today...no new downloads...no new resources...just restarts the indexing process each time. Any solution?

I ran this last night on my laptop, that was running RC1 with no problems. This morning my desktop running SR7 I get a Runtime Error. This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please advise. Note: I have the Logos 4 files in a custom directory if that makes any difference.

Rather than add this request to lots of different threads, please create a post in the Suggestions forum, and make your request there. It will get a better response in the most relevant place.

Hi John,
We are looking into this problem. Meanwhile, you should be able to successfully install RC2 after deleting the Install folder in the Logos 4 directory.
Thanks,

Hi Dave,
I have attached my log files. It looks like it says that my "indexer" is corrupted. If that is the case, then what can I do? I have left my laptop on overnight so the indexing would finish, only to start reindexing the 2nd day when I opened L4. so I left it on overnight again. Today the same problem: when I open L4, it starts indexing again, with no new downloads and no new resources.7824.Logos4.zip.
Appreciate any help!!!

It is attempting a full re-index as it suspects a corrupt index! Let's do it the old fashioned way by deleting the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Charlene\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\sdkwxwuj.iwv\LibraryIndex, but let me know what is in \LibraryIndex first!
You may need to use Explorer to view Hidden files and folders (Folder options | View).

Thanks, Dave, for helping!
I found the file and was going to attach it as a zipped, but it wouldn’t let me…so I have just attached picture of the file. Does that help?
Also, I don’t know if it makes any difference, but before I saw your post, I had stopped the indexing through task manager and had given the command to reindex in L4.

So, can I delete the file now?
And then when I do, does L4 automatically start "the correct" indexing or do I need to do something?

Delete the LibraryIndex folder, start L4 and it will commence indexing.

It worked! Right as Christmas had started in Jerusalem, it finished indexing and it now opens without indexing immediately. Thanks again, Dave! I was surprised to see you were online on Christmas Eve (or was it Christmas!!!), but boy, was I glad!
Merry Christmas!

Thanks,
MelissaMelissa, I am also having the same problem, though it started with
RC1... I tried installing RC2 to see if that might correct the
problem. It did not.The only possible thing I know of is
that I did prior to the problem (started a week or so ago) was to
uninstall Windows Messenger and some other programs trying to get rid
of a call to "switch identities" screen that has been popping up. My
thought is I might have deleted some Windows component that allows
updating/networking/connection in the background. I have the .net
upgrades and Win XP service packs through the most current.Any ideas?

Robert,
Have you tried deleting the Install folder in the Logos 4 directory? Are you able to run and install Windows Updates, such as recent security or other critical updates? Have you recently installed any Internet security software that might be conflicting?

The install folder in the Logos 4 directory was empty... but I've deleted it. Should it have been empty?
I am able to run and install Windows updates, and am current.
Tried turning off all security software; no effect.
Do you think it would help to uninstall Logos 4 and re-install? Or does it seem like a Windows problem? Any luck with others (like the one you responded to on this thread) who had the same error message?

It would be best to get a log file from you. Run the EnableLogging script in the last paragraph on this page: http://www.logos.com/L4/Support/DiagnosticLogging, run the setup again and after it fails, attach the logs found in '\My Documents\Logos Log Files' to this thread.
You may also want to contact Customer Support at 800-875-6467, from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST Mon-Fri, so a technician can work with you by phone.

Melissa, first THANK YOU for your help and such a quick response! I e-mailed the logfile to tech support, but will try to post here as well. The last two lines of the logfile look like the key part to me...
2010-02-09 19:13:35.9218 5 Info WebServiceClient (665ms) Calling GetLicensesData.
2010-02-09 19:13:35.9687 1 Info AppStartupModel Licenses are changing; shutting down indexer (if running).Somehow the call for getting the license data caused the shut down?
Here's my attempt to attach the logfile here:

Looks like you have the 4.0b Beta 7 installed. It's shutting down the Indexer, not necessarily the program. Is that the only log file in the Logos Log File folder? The problem in the thread that I had responded to previously was installing an update to Logos 4. Is the problem you're seeing that the program won't open? Does it crash when loading the home page?
Thanks,

MelissaI
installed the 4.0b Beta 7 this afternoon in an effort to get different
results. But I've had the problem for a week. I get the runtime error
when it goes to sign me in - so I never make it to the home page. I
did just try starting the program offline and that was successful. The
full (and only) logfile is linked completely in the previous post... I
just copied and pasted the last two lines because they seemed to
indicate the error (to my untrained eye). The full logfile is much
longer.0 -
Since it works offline, you might try configuring any Internet security software or firmware (firewalls, anti-virus) to give Logos4.exe both incoming and outgoing Internet access.

Thanks for responding, Melissa. I turned off the firewall and all
security and it still crashed, so I don't think that was the problem.
After being on hold with tech support this morning and having to leave,
I decided to just un-install Logos4 and start over from scratch. It
has now re-installed and started up and is indexing, so it appears to
have corrected the problem. It's a long solution with my size library,
but I'll take it!Thanks for all your help!
