How to use Google Slides and the Powerpoint Web App inside Proclaim

I wanted to share with you all a slick way to use Web Page service items to present Google slides and Powerpoint from within Proclaim. Both Google slides and Powerpoint allow you to upload a presentation to their services. If you have a presentation that you'd like to present from Proclaim, but want to keep the animations and transitions, uploading it to one of these sites and using them within Proclaim is a nice option that I'm glad we can support.

Google Slides

In Chrome:

  1. Go to https://docs.google.com/presentation/ to view your presentatations.
  2. Click on the one you want to present in Proclaim and find the share button in the upper right corner.
  3. Change the sharing to "Anyone with a link can view" and copy the link.

In Proclaim:

  1. Add a Web Page service item to your presentation.
  2. Paste the link you copied from Googles slides into the url box.
  3. Change the end of the url from '/edit?usp=sharing' to '/present'

Now when you navigate to this slide, while onAir or in Preview, the web page will load your Google Slides presentation full screen.
Clicking on the slide itself will advance it and allow you to use your keyboard's arrow keys to advance the subsequent slides!
Once you are ready to move on in Proclaim, click the next arrow with your mouse and you are back to normal.

Similarly, with the PowerPoint web app:

In Chrome:

  1. Go to https://office.live.com/start/PowerPoint.aspx to view your presentatations.
  2. Click on the one you want to present in Proclaim and find the share button in the upper right corner.
  3. Click 'Get a link', select 'View' from the drop down, and copy it.
  4. Now paste the link back into your browser. This will take you to seemingly the same page, but this time you don't need to be logged in.
  5. Click start slide show and a new window will open.
  6. Copy the url of the page in the new window, this will be what you paste into Proclaim

In Proclaim:

  1. Add a Web Page service item to your presentation.
  2. Paste the link you copied from Powerpoint web app into the url box.

These may seem like a lot of steps, but once you know what you're doing it will be very quick to start presenting your online presentations.

Respond back if you get lost, or need help setting this up. We'd be glad to help.
Also, if this is something you find helpful, respond back as well. We have room to improve our support for these webpages (similar to our support for YouTube), and if you do want this feature, we can invest more time in this. Such as automating some of the above steps.

Thanks

Very nice Jordan - I can nearly get this to work with Keynote too - the only difficulty is changing the slides - any ideas?

I haven't been able to get the Keynote web app to work yet.. Using Keynote was actually my original goal, but I could never get it to work right. So far, whenever I get the slides fullscreen I just end up with a black screen. I'll update this post if anything changes

    Hi Jordan

I followed your instructions for Chrome / Google Slides - and when I paste the link into Proclaim and change the suffix to /present, I see the Google sign in window, not the presentation

    Any advice?

    Hi Brian

Welcome to the forum - sorry to hear that things aren't working quite right with your slides.

You have added to a very old post which is about a different subject.

This is not best practice with support forums.

When you have a new problem it is best to start a new thread and give details of your OS and probably attach your logs.

Seeing that you and I have now bumped this to the top of the thread list you might get an answer here but if nobody chips in please start a new thread.

Have you tried signing in? The embedded web browser in Proclaim will need to authenticate and get a cookie from Google.
