Thanks for those replies.  So if I wanted this resource, I could now 'purchase' the base package for nothing and have access to it.  Is that correct?

I really think the idea of a base package is great.  It is about time.

Chris duMond:

Tell a friend—Biblical insights are within reach!

Bible software can be expensive and can feel out of reach for many potential customers, and getting started with a complicated tool can be intimidating. You can feel good about recommending Logos 7 Basic to family and friends and introducing them to digital Bible study.

Cost. Logos 7 Basic is a great way to introduce your family and friends to the digital Bible study you love, at a price within everyone’s reach—FREE!

Simplified. Logos 7 Basic is a limited-feature version of Logos that will help those you care about get comfortable with using Bible software. Plus, we include a free course on how to use Logos, right inside the software.

Accessible. With our desktop and mobile apps, Bible study is always within reach because Logos 7 Basic works on Android/iOS tablets and smartphones, and Mac or PC desktop computers.

Email a friend today and recommend Logos 7 Basic, and help them put Biblical insights within reach.

So do we get a reward or coupon for recommending Logos to friends and family, like a referral program?

Yes, you can get this for free too. Wink In all seriousness, there used to be a referral program, but I think it is now defunct. If I am wrong hopefully someone will chime in. It would be unrelated to this offer, however. FL isn't going to give you anything for leading others to "purchase" a free base package.

True.  But if they had a referral program that kept track of who eventually upgraded to a base package and rewarded folks then that might work.  People spend thousands of dollars on Logos resources and upgrades once they're hooked, so I figure even if they have a temporary promotional referral program that could be worth it for Faithlife.

If you already own a feature set, you have to sign out of the site (or visit the page in incognito browsing mode) to be able to see the features.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

this is a great thing!

may I make a suggestion? Would it not be good to include SBL Greek, since it is free anyway and it will give the prospective new user the ability to play around with original language stuff?

Then it is configured differently to Logos 7 basic which is complete when signed in, as with other Logos 7 Feature and Library sites.

The Verbum site also tells us how to "Do More With Logos 6"!

You're right, Dave. My mistake!

I wonder why Verbum Basic uses the older product page, as all the other Verbum tiers list their features. Sounds like FL needs to fix that page.

Is there a Basic Logos in Spanish?

Ben:

Before I go plugging this everywhere, I do not wish to mislead. Does this sentence mean that a feature or resource may randomly disappear in a month, or without warning?

"*The features, datasets, and books provided in Logos 7 Basic are “access-only”, which means you have access to them, but do not own them permanently."

I'm also interested in hearing a definitive answer from Faithlife staff about this before I can recommend it.

Ben and Allen, I'm sorry for the delay in replying to this question. Logos Basic has far exceeded our wildest expectations so far. We weren't planning to officially launch it until Monday, but it's already gone viral on its own—globally—via social media. So we had to accelerate some our of plans for Monday.

Here's the way we're thinking about access vs. ownership:

  1. We're modeling this after the approach we've taken with our mobile apps. Users who download the Logos Bible app get access to some free resources, but they don't own them. This allows us to change the contents quite easily: add a new resource, swap one for another, or in rare cases remove when when a rightsholder no longer wants their resource included.
  2. We don't plan to make many changes to the contents of the product. A user can count on having a good solid core of Bible study tools and content, even if there is some slight variation occasionally.
  3. When we do make changes, it's more likely that we'll swap or add something than remove it.
  4. When we're swapping or removing a title, we'll try to get sufficient advanced notice—and we'll probably provide the opportunity to purchase it at a discount to keep it permanently.
  5. We'll probably experiment with adding a free interactive, dataset, feature, or book free for a week every once in a while to allow people to try out some of the things not included in Basic. For example, we may grant free access to the Psalms Explorer interactive resource for one week. Having the collection be access-only makes that really easy for us to execute.

Several of the items included in Logos Basic are available separately for free on Logos.com. A user could buy them to convert their temporary licenses into permanent ones. That's probably a good idea for everyone to do.

I hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything that needs further clarification.

One thing which wasn't clear: Will these resources be made available to the user on mobile?

Yes.

Alex Scott:

As usual, either a sloppy presentation or misleading.  According to the above, if we switch from Logos 6 to Logos 7, we lose the Atlas, Bible Sense. Timeline, Passage Analysis, and Pronunciation.  I certainly won't be taking that step until such time as that's cleared up for us.

No, that's a misunderstanding of how licensing works. Since you already own those features, you will still own those features when you upgrade to the free Logos 7 engine.

Logos 7 Basic doesn't remove any features you already have. It adds features where people who did not have Logos had none.

Correct. We don't revoke your permanent licenses.

Logos 7 Basic is aimed at the new user, but will also serve as the free update to Logos 7 for the existing base package owner.

One other question: has consideration been given to having a Logos 7 Basic Forum?

I know we have a lot of forums, but new users might find it helpful to browse in a Forum addressing only their limited set of resources and capabilities. (Then, again, they'd see some other things Logos could do by coming to the Logos 7 Forum.) Just a thought.
