Very disappointingly, several 2019 Book Awards winners fall into this category.

Deborah Keiser:

For the time being, we can only sell HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) books inside the US on Faithlife Ebooks. That includes the rights to Thomas Nelson and Zondervan titles. We are working to renegotiate international rights with HCCP and hope it will be a speedy process. However, a timeline for when international rights will be returned has not been determined.

We know that this is a pain point for you, and our other international customers, and we sincerely appreciate your patience & understanding as we work through the contract process. I'll keep you posted with updates when they become available.

So I'm just wondering if we're any closer on this as I still can't get the resources I'm wanting after 4 months. Can anytime from Faithlife shed any light?

Are we at least closer in the discussions than 4 months ago?

I even have a separate wishlist now for books I can't buy!

I have one of those for Kindle books I can't buy in Canada but haven't started one yet for Logos books I can't buy, because I just buy them in Kindle instead. So far, all of the ones I've been denied in Logos are available to me in Kindle. If it's that easy, it's got to be something Faithlife is doing wrong. Angry

Most of the ones that are unavailable are from Harper Collins (Zondervan, Thomas Nelson, etc.) so it's probably that Logos doesn't like the contractual terms that are being offered. I would personally be inclined to see Harper Collins as the source of the trouble rather than Logos.

Or maybe Logos just does not have the world wide sales that Amazon / Kindle does?

Or Faithlife, who are they? How many sales will they make?

While they know who Amazon is and the potential for large number of sales.

Anytime someone at Faithlife wants to jump in here that would be welcome

I have been given a reason by Faithlife and they are trying to resolve. It's not clear to me though whether that explanation was given in confidence.

Right, it’s a bummer, but we lost international rights to sell all HarperCollins (HCCP) titles on Faithlife Ebooks. We can only sell HCCP ebooks inside US and territories until we can support localized pricing for our international customers. That means we need to offer their products in local currency, and accept local currency, in every country we want the rights to resell HCCP products. This will involve significant development work and is unlikely to happen soon. I had hoped to have some good news to share. Currently, we’re working to show the restrictions on the product description pages until we can work out a long-term solution. It’s a small gesture, I know.  At least you will know about the restriction before you get to checkout.

This has NO bearing on Logos. They have entirely different contracts with HCCP.

So sorry not to have better news for you. We thank you for all your support and loyalty to our platform!

Deborah. You only mention HarperCollins. Does that mean there's been some development regarding Thomas Nelson, IVP and Hachette

That's quite ridiculous. Not even Amazon does that. They accept "only" around five or six different currencies.

What's the best way to send complaints to HCCP? A message to customer support might be an option, but if there's a more specific email or phone number, chances would be better that a complaint reaches someone who has actually the authority to do something about this issue.

Yes, HarperCollins is the parent company for many imprints. Zondervan & Thomas Nelson are their main Christian lines, and they have quite a few more that affect our inventory, which includes some 6,000+ titles we carry. They are the largest Christian publisher worldwide.

Hachette bought Worthy recently, & with Faithwords, they have two main Christian publishers. The good news is they don't impose the same restrictions for selling internationally. However, they may choose to sell the international rights to a title individually and that may, or may not, restrict our ability to sell individual Hachette titles internationally. It's a complicated system that has an affect on all publishers, including IVP, and all resellers worldwide. So as you shop you may find an individual title or two we cannot sell internationally. The hiccup with HCCP has made the issue for you a bigger one than when restrictions were imposed on a few individual titles.

We are going to work on localized pricing in the English-speaking countries first, as others have done. HCCP has made that a little easier. I know how important it is to keep all of your books in the Logos system, and I hate to send you to other retailers, but I don't want you to wait for a book you may need today. It will still be a while before we can make it happen.

Again, thanks for your patience and patronage!

Thanks Deborah. It's a shame that HarperCollins have done this. It obviously wasn't an issue previously. For instance, I have many Lee Strobel books from Zondervan, but can't buy the outstanding ones now. Hopefully one day.......

Hi, may I know if I physically travel to the US, will I be able to buy those locale restricted e-books on Faithlife? How does the restrictions being applied? Do they recognise our IP or the country is already tied to our respective Faithlife account?

It is my understanding that it is the credit card.

I'll be in the US for the VES conference in October. Question to the American Logos users here: what's the best place to obtain a US prepaid credit card?
