Today "Strong's Talking Hebrew and Greek Dictionary" showed up in my library. Was kind of looking forward to it as I used it in Wordsearch. So I went to open it up in Logos and it took a while to load, actual got the (Not Responding) error, but it did load, took about 30 seconds. When it finally loaded it was not what it was in Wordsearch. I assume it is not completed, even though it has shown up in my library. I have "The Complete Word Study Dictionary" open so I tried to link the two together, but they do not link. And the verbal pronunciation is not available either.

To check the opening of "Strong's Talking..." I closed the tab, closed down Logos, waited a little while and opened Logos and went to the library and open up :Strong's Talking..." and it did the same as before, took about 30 seconds to open, got the (Not Responding) error also.

When it finally loaded it was not what it was in Wordsearch.

    I see the following differences:

    • Missing Table of Contents
    • No Strong's links / hover tips
    • No links to Vine's
    • No icon to click to play the pronunciation

Is there anything else you want to draw our attention to?

Correct. As you can see on the migration page, it's currently listed as an "Ebook". This has limited functionality compared to a "Logos Research" edition. See https://community.logos.com/forums/p/193938/1117970.aspx#1117970 for more details on our plan to get Ebooks (produced by automated conversions) out first, then upgrade them later.

Thanks for the update. I had seen "ebook" but didn't know what it was.

    Thanks again.

Looking at screen shots in post => https://community.logos.com/forums/p/196991/1140934.aspx#1140934 noticed Usage Note indentation differences.

Hello, is there any idea how long it will take for y'all to fix the Talking part of this module?

I don't know exactly what this feature will end up being in Logos, but it sounds like it will be somewhat similar to how Strong's was implemented in L3. In the KJV and the NASB (because they are both on the word-for-word end of the translation spectrum), when a user hovered their cursor over a word in their Bible, a pop-up of the underlying Strong's word appeared allowing the user to know instantly what the OL word was with ZERO clicking! This is an incredibly helpful and efficient way of making the OL info available to users.

Personally, I don't care about the talking aspect of this feature. But aside from that, will this feature bear any similarity to the feature from L3 that I described above?

The WordSearch resource required a click on a Strongs Number (link) to access the talking feature (somewhat like a right click on a word then choosing the lemma and pronounce icons from the popup menu).

Just hovering on the Strong's number would create a popup but you could not access the pronounce icon/feature.

You also had to have the Strong's numbers visible to use the feature, not the word itself. So from your description of how L3 worked I would not count on it working the same, but I could be happily mistaken.

It's looking like an update will be available in late-August/early-September.

I wish you were happily mistaken, but it ain't so. The picture you posted tells the tale. The insertion of the Strong's numbers into the text creates a massive visual distraction, not unlike a reverse interlinear, and reduces the amount of visible text by about half. Sadly, there really isn't any need for those numbers, as the link they represent could just as easily be connected to the words of the text itself, thus eliminating the need for all that clutter. I understand the appeal the pronunciation feature has for some people, but it holds no appeal for me because I know that somewhere around 1/3 to 1/2 of the pronunciations are likely inaccurate anyway.

As far as I can tell, the features available in this resource are already reproduced in Logos, although in different ways and through different methods and mechanisms. The RI feature that I greatly dislike is quite like what is shown above, though it is distributed in linear fashion rather than salted throughout. Also, Logos already has a pronunciation feature, though I'm not sure how it works as I have never used it. Still, if you've grown accustomed to this resource and how it works, I can understand wanting what you've paid for and become habituated to.

Ironically, I'm in the same boat, though with far less rosey prospects. I also became habituated to the way a program that I spent money on (to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars) worked, but unfortunately for me, the company that created that software unilaterally chose to abandon all of the mechanisms and methods I had come to rely on. Whereas I was left out in the cold, you WS customers are being effectively doted on, with FL even going to the length of reduplicating WS products and features that are already present elsewhere in Logos. I'm glad for you...I understand why you want those things you paid for and have become accustomed to. I feel the same way, but in contrast, I have been completely abandonned. At least 95% of the complaints I have about Logos pertain to features I used to use IN LOGOS that have either disappeared or have become completely broken and unusable.
