Intermittently Unresponsive

When I open L4, try to type in search bar, scroll a book that is open, request a new passage/exegetical guide search, seems that no matter what I do, L4 becomes unresponsive, most of the time. If i minimize and maximize L4 the program will go ahead and preform the function. This problem has been occurring since I upgraded from VIsta to Windows 7. Tried a suggestion of deleting an update file, didn't work. I even reloaded L4 last night and still have the problem. I have been wanting to call the tech support people; however, their hours and my hours for the last couple of weeks has not been compatible. So, I reach out to you for help with this problem. The computer specs are as follows:
HP, AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core Processor 2.30 GHz
8.00 GB RAM (7.74 GB Usable)
64- Bit Operating System
If you tell me which logs to upload I will.
Thanks in advance

We need the same (but current) logs as in your previous thread.
Open L4, perform some specific actions (describe exactly what you did), close L4 & upload the logs.

Thanks for your reply Dave. Could you be more specific as to which logs I need to upload? The uploading of logs is a little fuzzy to me. Watched the video; however, I still don't know exactly which ones and how to get them.
Thanks in advance

Enable permanent logging & log files will be generated in \Documents\Logos Log Files. Then you can upload logos4.log, logos4Indexer.log and any logos4Crash.txt.

But what was happening? Please follow my previous instructions & describe what you did and what problem you experienced.

Opened L4,clicked on search icon, no response, clicked minimize icon, clicked maximize icon, L4 responded, Typed peace in command box, no response, no response, clicked minimize icon, clicked maximize icon, L4 responded. Clicked Passage Guide tab, unresponsive, clicked minimize icon, clicked maximize icon, L4 responded. Clicked scroll option for NAC commentary, unresponsive, clicked minimize icon, clicked maximize icon, L4 responded. Clicked NKJ icon, unresponsive, clicked minimize icon, clicked maximize icon, L4 responded. Clicked Library Icon, unresponsive, clicked minimize icon, clicked maximize icon L4 responded. I could go on; however, I think that this more detail version of the original post should convey the problem pretty well. If there is some other detail that you may need to help me diagnose and fix the problem, just let me know.
Thanks in advance

I can see something being done with those resources/guides in the log, but it does not indicate any errors or lags.
Do you have a collection called Introductions and can you access it OK?

Yes, I do have a collection entitled Introductions. If I try to access it, I encounter the same problem as described in the earlier post.

Larry,
When your system is unresponsive, have you waited 30-60 seconds to see if any response occurs at all? If it eventually responds, possibly my experience might be relevant.
My PC developed intermittent long delays in L4. Some operations, like scrolling or opening a dialog box, would occasionally take 10 - 30 seconds before any response. L4 would freeze during that time. I ran a PC benchmark test, Novabench, mentioned in another thread and noticed my hard drive write speed was extremely low even for my old notebook. (Read speed was not tested.) I didn't know if this was due to damage from a virus a few months ago or a failing hard drive.
I reload the operating system and L4 on a new drive and the lags dropped to 0-2 seconds mostly.
I'm wondering if you have eliminated hardware as a problem? L4 is so much more demanding than most apps, that maybe the problem only noticeable in L4. You might want run a benchmark test and see how your system compares to those similarly configured.
Just a thought.

Thanks Scott. I have waited minutes to see if L4 would respond to the command and it would not until I minimized and maximized the screen.
Not really in a position to say whether my hard drive is suspect or not. The HP diagnostic tool has not detected anything. DIdn't have a problem until I upgraded from Vista to W7. Could you provide a link to some instructions about the PC benchmark test you spoke of?
Thanks for your help

Larry,
Here is the link to the benchmark program and discussion. Novabench is a popular overall system test. Since Novabench's only hard drive test is write speed, it is not a thorough diagnostic tool for drives, but it was helpful for me.
Given that you never get a response from some commands and that the problem arose at the point of the upgrade from Vista to W7, that points more to a failure with the upgrade. I hope you don't have to do a fresh W7 install.

Does the problem occur with other collections? Please upload Logos4.log after accessing other collections directly or via a Search using the collection.

Dave,
These are the logs of me trying to open my Journals Collection
Thanks for your help.

The logs show this for your two collections (Journals, Introductions):-
Error ResourceCollectionManager Could not open collection with specified name
This is the only error in the logs and I don't know how to solve this, let alone the other issues. Time to make contact with Logos Support - quote this thread when you do.

Was able to make contact with Customer Support today. After talking with Level 2 Customer Support, turns out that there was a problem with a Font Cache File. It is a compatibility issue with Windows 7. Funny thing is that on my laptop I am not having this kind of problem. Thanks for all the help that was given.

Well, it is back to the drawing board on this one. Had to contact tech support again yesterday because of the problem continuing, but not as bad as before. After letting the tech (thank you Don for your help) take over my computer, couldn't come up with a fix. So the research team is going to take a look at the issue and see if this is a bug or a fluke. They will get back with me next week. Fortunately I have a lap top I can work off of. If I was a betting man, I would put my money on it being something to do with Windows 7. We shall see.

Larry, thanks for the update. Glad to see your laptop is keeping you going.

Me too, because it looks more likely that a fresh install of Win 7 will be needed - I'm assuming that the "upgrade" was on top of the existing Vista OS; which has never been entirely successful!

Yes it was and I am hearing that from a lot of people. The HP people insist on the upgrade vs clean install for some reason. that is why I went with the upgrade option.

Probably because their software "features" are not native Windows 7. That should be no problem with a desktop vs. laptop, but their site may have Windows 7 versions by now.
