FAQs

1. What resources will I get to test?
You will be able to test two sets of resources: (1) the resources
that are currently in your license and (2) if you have purchased a Logos 4 base package, crossgrade/upgrade, or minimal crossgrade, you'll be able to test those resources as well.
2. Will Logos 4 overwrite Logos 1?
No. Logos 4 is a completely different application from Logos 1. It
will install alongside of Logos 1 and will not interfere with Logos 1's
functionality (with the exception that Logos 4 will take over all
libronixdls protocol links that it supports). We invite you to run them
both on the same machines.
3. How many machines can I install Logos 4 on?
You may install Logos 4 on as many of your machines as you want in
order to test it in a variety of scenarios.
4. Which operating system do you prefer I use?
You're welcome to use any OS that is Mac OS 10.5.8 or later.
5. What are the system requirements for Logos 4?
Operating Systems
Mac OS 10.5.8 or later
Hardware Requirements
The final hardware requirements for Logos 4 have not been established but at a minimum we would recommend:
- Intel only (PowerPC is not supported)
- 1.5 GB RAM
- 8 GB hard drive space
Your feedback in tuning these requirements is appreciated.
6. How long will indexing take?
Indexing can vary significantly based on the speed of your computer
and the number of resources that you have.
7. Why am I missing books that I know I should have?
- Is indexing finished?
- Is your Libronix Customer ID connected to your Logos.com login account (https://www.logos.com/MyAccount)?
8. Do I need to have Logos 1 installed on my Mac in order to install Logos 4?
No. Logos 4 has the ability to pull your resources down from the web. Additionally, Logos 4 can pull resources off of the Windows DVD if it is inserted when you first run the program.
8. Where can I get the latest download?
http://www.logos.com/logos4mac
9. How do I report a bug?

Ryan,
How would you like us to respond to this release? Clearly a host of features are missing and the bugs and crashes are legion. I can't imagine that I would report any bugs that are not already know to you guys. Do you want us to hold off on bug reports for a bit and just enjoy watching as builds unfold?

What would you have us do with Time Machine? Is there a path / folder that we could / should exclude from Time Machine?

Martin,
Excellent question, I hadn't thought of that. Since Time Machine backs up every change, I don't think we want it backing up the index every time something is added/changed.

Feel free to report bugs, crashes, and experiences while you enjoy watching as builds unfold.

Will Logos 4 on Mac have the same feature set as Logos 4 on Windows?
0 -
That's the goal, though the full feature set is a few months behind. There will be updates of the Alpha every two weeks until it's complete.

Bob,
As new features are rolled out for the PC version will those features also be a few months behind on the Mac?

I just bought logos 4 today. It crashes a lot and the indexer is using a crazy amount of system resources. Logos4Indexer is using 1gig of memory.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but this Mac Alpha is ONLY for those who've already participated in the Win beta right?

It's probably worth noting here that this list of missing features (and the associated projected updates schedule) applies to the Windows version of the software.
Additionally, because I don't see it linked in this thread already, everyone running the Mac Alpha will benefit from reading this: http://www.logos.com/mac/disclaimer

Hebrew fonts aren't being displayed in tools like BDB in Logos 4 for the Mac (at least on my machine). Is this normal for the present alpha? If not, is there a way to reinstall the appropriate fonts? They are, of course, showing up fine in Logos 1 for the Mac.

I'm having a similar issue, Mark, but it's inconsistent. For instance, I see nothing but question marks in Gesenius, but I do see Hebrew in the abridge BDB. And then, I cannot get the enhanced BDB to load at all.

That's interesting Rick. I have question marks in Gesenius and both versions of BDB, as well as the BHS.

Ryan,
The note on the top of the FAQ should probably be removed since this is no longer a private beta and few people reading this were ever under the NDA.

Just to put in perspective, I understand that the speed of Logos is in part due to the comprehensive indexing it does before you use the resources. I bought Logos Scholar this week. I have a 2.2GHz Macbook with 4meg ram, and it took about 7 hours to finish indexing with the cooling fan running nice and fast (yes, it is doing some serious work for a change).
Indexing takes resources and time, and our patience allows it to complete without resetting all the time. [;)]

sir can you tell me how I get the resources to load up into this program..I have a load of books running fine on the last mac release.....how do I get them into the mark 4 version alpha
0 -
When you install the Alpha, the books on your Mac are copied over and newer versions are downloaded from the server. The process is designed to be automatic, so barring any Alpha bugs, all you need to do is install the latest Alpha drop.J Nicol said:sir can you tell me how I get the resources to load up into this program..I have a load of books running fine on the last mac release.....how do I get them into the mark 4 version alpha

I went ahead and excluded Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/____/LibraryIndex/ (Library under my user, not under the main library...and the "___" is a folder which I imagine is unique to my installation...a crypting alphanumeric name including one period too).
It's also interesting that Libronix put resources under the main /Library whereas Logos4 puts it under the user's...

Ok,
In a world of freebies and extras I'd like to officially say what know one else will probably say....Here goes. Bob, for those of us who rolled the dice and bought logos4 for Mac and are going through the trenches and delaying our total experience to a futuristic date are there any bells or whistles for us? You know, like an extra free download or some really cool Mac feature that isn't available for the Windows side? Some of us are having to purchase parallels, etc.....So how about you guys coming up with something like a really cool feature on the Mac side or something for our wait??? WHat do ya think? Ok folks don't throw eggs at me or tell me to suffer through trials ,etc......I'm only stating what 95 % of you are thinking...........Come on LOGOS you can do it????

You could have got Virtual Box for Free. (and that was not intended to be an egg....well maybe...[8o|]
Blessings,

Geary,
Bob P. has said he would like to take advantage of the Mac environment and said he plans on integrating some new "cool" features just for us.
You can read his comments here
http://community.logos.com/forums/p/5448/44403.aspx#44403
followed by some suggestions. He is looking for other specifics though if you have something in mind.

Yes, I do. I have several MAC ideas on a serious note. Don't throw eggs again at me though......I think the developers at "GLO" and "Illumina" are on to something. Yes, those programs aren't for the serious scholarship but there is no reason that LOGOS 4.7 or LOGOSMAC can't adapt some of those amazing graphics features.....MAC users love a. drag and drop features ....so the more the better with LOGOS b. graphics par excellence, video tutorials interlaced to 3D Graphics photos of Holyland......LOGOS could use Ray Vander Laan's series are excellent done on location in the Holy Land!! from Zondervan and interlace it to LOGOSMAC. C. If there isn't a feature to upload photos or drag and drop into some sort of journal/study page then that's an idea, too. D. Drag and Drop features from LOGOSMAC articles/photos/ bible passages to "PAGES" or WORDfor MAC.... I truly think GLO is for my kids but looking at the demo at LIFEWAY my kids were so drawn to it....I must admitt I was, too....There is no reason that LOGOS couldn't adopt that technology......I think 360 degree virtual tours are awesome........On location scholars in Israel, etc. I just returned from 12 wks in Israel and have thousands of photos and video I'd love to upload to some sort of MACLOGOS interface journal book or something.......Anyway,,,,those are some insights into my wish list......Ok, I've only owned my software one night and look at the possiblities..........Blessings to you guys....

Not exactly Mac specific, though I use one exclusively. I would love to see more liturgical resources. For example, I am a member of a 1928 BCP Anglican parish (studying to be a priest). It would be nice to have at least the 1928 and 1979 BCP's available as fully searchable, linked resources. Older editions would be nice as well in addition to the 1940 Hymnal. As it stands right now, Logos caters to Protestant Christians (understandably) but it would be excellent if we could see more Anglican, Orthodox and Roman liturgical sources added.

I am downloading the update from your link. Thanks.
And now... stupid questions time ;-)
After I knew that Alpha 6 was available, I launched L4Mac A5. I sat and watched it. Nothing happened.
Should I have waited some amount of time? Should there be a menu item to check for updates? Am I just too anxious for the next release of the amazing alpha?
Regards,
Steve

It should detect the new version when it logs in so it does happen fairly quickly.Steve Brannon said:Should I have waited some amount of time?
You can type, "update now" into the command box--without the quotes and that will force L4 to check for updates. It can take up to 30 minutes though.Steve Brannon said:Should there be a menu item to check for updates?

One of the biggest things I can't wait for is the opening pages of Logos 4! I love the layout and it helps me in my study even more! What a great tool! Can't wait for it on the Mac!
