Duplicate Reading Plans

I didn't get very much response to my last question about why the Reading Plan unexpectedly and inexplicably duplicates itself. Perhaps I'm pretty much alone in this problem, or there's no solution to it. If anyone out there can help, I'd really appreciate it. The problem persists.

If you go to File > Reading Plans to open yours, make sure you don't do what I did several times! The left column is "new", but I didn't notice that... everytime I clicked on Reading Plan it created a new one instead of opening my current one! My legitimate reading plan is tucked away on the right column of that menu.
I don't know if that may be the issue for you, but I hope it helps

Thanks, Jonathan. I don't think that's my particular problem - I open the Reading Plan from the right panel - but that's good information to have. Thanks for your response.

I haven't experienced that problem (at least not yet), but I can tell you how to solve having duplicate reading plans -- right click on the 2nd one in the right panel and select "Delete." You probably already know this, but just in case ...

Lonnie,
I can't help solve the genesis of the duplicate reading lists, but I can join you as a Logos user who mysteriously gets them. The Bible-in-a-year plan I finished last week produced nine duplicates during its run. I've always assumed I did something -- perhaps when accessing the reading plan on another Logos installation -- but I never saw clear evidence of what happened. My solution was the one proposed here by others: delete the extras.
Thanks for the company!

Another user suggested
"Click on "File" and in the "Open" box type in the word "reading"
(without the quotation marks)? This will show all of your reading
plans."delete the duplicate ones....
This worked for me.

Duplicated reading plan happens on my system as well. It's still an issue since a duplicate appeared this morning. However, I notice the duplicate only shows after I use the Reading Plan on a device other than my Mac. Two other devices running Logos4 are a PC laptop (Windows 7) and an iPod touch. I don't believe this behavior can be attributed to a user error or a settings issue. Do you know if this has been reported?

Thsi behavior has been reported, but nothing has happened to resolve it. I don't have the additional devices you speak of here, so I can't address what happens relative to them. My system is a PC running W7. I hope they'll resolve this annoying problem soon. Peace.

Welcome to the forums! Sorry you are having trouble. In your case, the problem is most likely your iPod touch. The mobile app does not sync well to L4. Logos is aware of the situation and is working on it. Logos is expected to release a new beta (4.5) "soon" which will introduce a more robust sync solution. This will bring highlighting and notes to the mobile app as well.

I use Reading Plans quite a lot, and have experienced this problem a number of times. I finally concluded that it was happening when I mark readings as completed on more than one device. In other words, I read one day on my iPhone, marking the reading as complete on there, and then read on my PC the following day, marking the reading complete on there. When it synced, it then duplicated the RPs on the devices. For the past few weeks I have made it a practice to mark readings as complete on only one device, and have not had any duplicated RPs. I have regarded this as a workround until the syncing improvements come through in the next version. I might be wrong, but that's the only explanation I could find for the duplications I was getting.

I think that you are right, at least between the mobile and desktop apps. I don't think the problem exists between computers.

Thanks all for the replies. Now that its been mentioned, I was using the Reading Plan on the iPod and the following day the Mac contained the duplicate. I don't use the iPod much for reading so makes sense why the problem shows up only occasionally. It's really not a big issue as the duplicates are easily removed, however, in the interim, I will adopt GregW's suggestion. Cheers!

I've had the same problem, but then I changed to using my Kindle for daily devotional readings and haven't thought about it.
It did seem to come when I used the home computer one day, and the work computer the next day. So, I think it was somewhere in the sync function.

I regularly experience this problem too, and as other posters have noted, it seems that it only happens when you mark "read" on a device other than your main computer. For me, my main Logos install is on a desktop iMac, and when I read and try to mark "read" on my iPad, it creates a duplicate reading plan file. If I delete the duplicate on the iMac, it just gets created again by the iPad.
I'm looking forward to a new release of Logos that fixes this syncing problem.

My main install is on my MacBook, however I do my daily readings on my iPad and use this to mark passages as read. After having had trouble in the past syncing my reading plan (which I suspect was caused by me checking verses on my MacBook), I now use the iPad only and - fingers crossed - it appears to be working consistently well.
I too look forward to the much talked of - and desperately needed - update. L4 is excellent, however the iOS app is mediocre at best.

Paul - I believe that using one device only will eliminate the duplicate reading plans. The syncing problems, however, extend beyond creating duplicate plans. You may also discover that you "run out" of readings. I think that there are about 2 weeks worth of readings. If your mobile device does not get synced before those two weeks are up, you will run out of readings.

Logos any updates on this issue? I am having the same issues that everyone else is mentioning about reading plans duplicating.
I am using Logos 4 Logos Bible Software 4.3 SR-7 (4.30.0.1621) on my Mac and Logos 1.8.3 (2011-11-17 01:06:52 PST) for iOS on my iPhone.
My reading plan from my Mac never syncs with my iPhone app any longer. If I delete a reading plan from the iPhone I get more duplications in Logos on my Mac.
Changing plans in Logos 4 on my Mac does not change anything on my iPhone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Logos is working on it. The latest word is that they are hoping for early in the new year. The problem is in the sync infrastructure. They are reworking it now. The next version of Logos (4.5 - in beta now) will bring the necessary changes to highlighting and notes (which will provide this ability to the mobile app). Reading plans will get updated shortly after.

It does... just REALLY slow & late. It may be a month away, but it will. (Hopefully the update will be before then, but who knows!)

The only relief I've found to this duplication of Reading Plans is to just keep on deleing the duplicate each time it comes up. At this point in time, there's nothing else I know that will relieve the problem

Not sure if this helps but I have a similar problem.
iPhone 4 and MacBook. If I delete all Reading Plans on the iPhone, it automatically creates a Read the Bible in a Year reading plan starting in Genesis on the phone.
I created a new Reading Plan (NT only) on the MacBook, gave it a new name, and it doesn't show up on the phone - at least not yet. I created another new Reading Plan on the MacBook and it hasn't synced (yet) with the phone. The phone keeps recreating a Read the Bible in a Year plan that doesn't (currently) exist on the MacBook. Maybe it just takes a while to sync - but I am not certain it is syncing at all.

Greg - First, welcome to the forums! Sorry you are having troubles. There is a known sync issue with the mobile app that especially affects reading plans. Unfortunately there is not a fix or work around. Logos is working on the issue and a fix will be released shortly after 4.5 & the next major release of the iOS Logos app.

For new "Read the Bible in a Year" plan that I am using in Logos 1.8.3 app, am noticing "Mark Read" is syncing to Logos 4.3 SR-8, but do not know how long for lag time (e.g. Mark Read on Saturday was present when checked Today, but Today's Mark Read on iPad has not yet appeared on Mac). Likewise created a New Testament reading plan using Logos 4.3 SR-8 on Mac, which is not on iPad (did close iOS app and relaunch to cause Home page to download items).
Looking forward to deployment of Sync 2 framework when ready for use by many Logos users; hoping for quick and reliable sync between mobile apps and Logos 4.
Keep Smiling [:)]
