Having trouble with Mac Alpha?

If you are having trouble with Mac Alpha 1, there are some bits of information which can help us track down the issues more quickly.

1) Turn on Logging

Grab the attached nlog.config file and place it in Library/Application Support/Logos4/Logging under your home folder. Rename the file to nlog.config (replacing any existing file).

5670.nlog.config

This will put a couple of files into that directory every time you run the app: Indexer.log and Logos4.log.

2) Quit and restart Logos 4 and the Indexer.

To quit the indexer, click on the blue Logos icon in the menu bar and select "Cancel Indexing". If you don't see the icon, the Indexer is not currently running.

3) Attach your log files to this thread with a description of the problem that you're seeing. (You can use the "Insert Media" button in the tool bar to attach logs.)

    Murray,

Did you install from a download? Do you know if you downloaded any resources? If the application did download resources, it would have tried to download > 1GB of data depending on what package you purchased. If this is the first time you've run the app after downloading it, it is expected that your library would be empty as no resources would have been downloaded.

That being said, I do see an error in your logs related to downloading that I've created a ticket for which should be fixed by the next alpha.

Hi Tom - I downloaded the .dmg that Bob (I think) linked to a few days ago.

The blue Installer program in the menu bar has said things like "Downloading x% of 6.0 Gb", and the x climbed up from 0 to at least 6, so I presume that it has downloaded at least some resources. The Resources folder inside Logos 4's Application Support folder is showing a size of 6.65Gb, but I don't know if it downloaded them from the net or copied them from my existing Libronix 1.2 installation.

If you had 1.2 installed, Logos 4 should copy those resources to the correct location and discover them automatically. If you have updates to download, those will be discovered once the app is restarted (for all the resource downloads that have completed successfully). I would suggest waiting until all the resources download simply to avoid having to reindex multiple times.

Are you still not seeing any resources when you click on the Library Icon?

Every time I load Logos, I wait until the blue Indexer disappears from the menu bar and the 'Waiting for indexer" message stops in the main program. It shows me a main screen, then when I do command-L, or choose Library from the menu, it brings up an empty resources screen.

    Murray,

Can you post your Logos4.log from ~/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Logging?

    Murray,

Could you try deleting this file: /Users/murray/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/7zdykbvd.2y7/ResourceManager/Resources/CALTGLEX.lbxlls and seeing if you can restart the app.

Also, after doing so, can you attach your Indexer.log?

    Thanks,

Logos4 launches, however the Indexer takes 100% of the CPU and has since yesterday.  When I hover over the blue cross it tells me downloading 0% of 4GB and has done that since yesterday (AFAIK) also.

    Hope this helps...

Edit: should say:  downloading updates (0% of 4.4 GB)

Was trying to do it from memory...

I just found a nifty app Console that lets me see what's inside those log files and it appears that it's not just aimlessly spinning it's wheels.  I'll let it keep running and hopefully it will complete before Jesus comes to take me home - as that would make this whole program worthless.

    Tom,

That behavior is expected. It's not really an error, just a miscategorized log statement.

    Tom,

Thanks for the info...  I just went in to check on the log and it looks like it's moved past that.  Wish it gave some indication of what was left for it to do.

    Murray,

I've got the log file and there's definitely something going on trying to discover your resources.

I'll look into it and see if I can get a solution. As a work around, you can move CALTGN.lbxlls out of your /Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Resources/ folder and out of your /Users/murray/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/7zdykbvd.2y7/ResourceManager/Resources/ folder and see if that gets you over the hump. (They are copies of the same file, so you can just stick one copy somewhere where you can put it back later.)

There is a Logos 4 version of this resource that should be downloaded eventually which will supersede the current one, but you need to finish discovering the current resources before that will proceed.

Thanks Tom, that seems to have done something. I've deleted both of those, restarted, and now things seem to be moving on and it is calling LocalFileResourceDiscoverer and powering through my resources. Will leave it overnight and see what I have in the morning!

I had similar trouble had 1.22 installed and installed v4

    wouldnt download anything at all.

In the end I delete 1.22 and all it's related files and deleted 4 and all it's related files (in the Library/application support folders there are Libronix and Logos 4 folders with lots of fimes and sub folders I deleted all these)

Then it downloaded everything from scratch and indexed for hours but now at least I have resources instead of blank resources.

Of course I have lost 1.22 but thats ok I can always reinstall it.

Maybe this sheds some like on similar issues I had and how to fix them.

I think it was seeing I had 1.22 installed yet wouldnt copy or use these resources from  4 and wouldn't download the resources from Logos.com.

Deleting every reference caused it to reset everything and download 4.4 gb of data. A pain but at least it works.

I sure hope the interface ends up looking like the Windows interface. I don't like the zillions of separate windows I am seeing now it doesnt work as well as the Windows layout. (I have Windows logos 4 installed on VMWare Fusion and it looks awesome)

I'm having problems as well. 477 are downloaded, but the next 7.3G are stuck at 0%. Here are my log files:

Please let me know what I need to do to get my resources downloaded. Thank you!

    Tim,

Try this. Start the app up. Wait until the blue Logos icon shows up in the menu bar. Click the icon and select "Cancel Downloading" and wait about a minute for the downloads to cancel. If the icon hasn't disappeared after one minute, click "Cancel All". Now, restart Logos 4 and see if the downloads will restart.

There is a bug in the "Cancel All" menu option that will cause your download to get stuck and not restart if you don't "Cancel Downloading" first and wait for the indexer to clean up it's downloads.

If that doesn't work, then just hang tight. I've fixed the bug in the code and we will be releasing a new alpha with the fix tomorrow. This post is just a temporary work around until then.

Are there any other fixes in the version you are releasing tomorrow?

Also, do you know when the MAC version will get a home page - like the pc version?

I just purchased Logos 4 (LE) for Mac last night and left the program running all night.  What's really odd is that there is still no blue Logos icon in the menu bar, but the Logos4.log shows activity.  There are no resources downloaded.  I'm very curious as to how long I should let this run since I found no forum post with this problem (download activity logging, but no blue icon in menu bar).  Is anything really downloading?  I can't find any data that's been downloading.

I installed the evening of release day and have paused/cancelled a few times, but let everything run overnight for the past 3 nights. When I get to my MBP in the morning, the indexer/downloader is no longer running, but when I start Logos, it kicks into high gear again with yet another estimate of 20-40 hours of indexing.

    Me too.

Exactly the same. I first downloaded about 5 Gb. The indexer told me then that it takes another 8 hour. A day later it seems to be finished. But whem I start Logos4 the indexer is back again and is telling me to wait another 36 hours !! And for two days it is stuck to that: it varies from 34 to 38 hours....  Endless.

HOW LONG THIS WILL TAKE...??? My CPU cores are both continuously working 98 - 100%...

The only thing I can see are the books in my library. I can open them up. Do a word search but the outcome is not correct... The preference pane (and others like biblical people and so on) doesn't seem to have a view. So you can do almost nothing with it. At the moment it is just not more than another e-reader.

I am very impressed with the design and interface advances with LOGOS 4 and am particularly intrigued by the promise of the iPhone App version of LOGOS 4.

I think we all need to realize this is an Alpha version, and hopefully we will be very happy when the full Mac version rolls out.

Does this - as the only error in the Indexer.log file - mean anything to anyone?

    Tom,

There may be some assertion failures on Mac, but they should not affect indexing. They are more there for troubleshooting on Mac since this is an alpha version.

    Tom,

When we put a new Alpha out, we'll post in the forum with a change log and known issues. Logos 4 for Mac (like Windows) will check for resource updates and app updates when you log in and when the app is started up.

    Was over at: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/3822.aspx

    Moved here at Tom's request.

    Platform: Mac OSX 10.6.1

Hardware: MacBook Pro 3.06GHz, 8GB RAM

Logos Build: Alpha Build 2, 4.0.3.2686

    Problem:

I can install the app OK, log in OK (using the log in I use to log into the main Logos website) and I authenticate. However, when the main window loads up there are no resources in the library (so no indexing happens). I can't see a way to synchronise or download resources, or import them from my Logos 1.2 installation. I've tried trashing my [user]:Application Support:Logos 4 directory to force it to rebuild it - no joy.

    Log file attached!

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

When I first installed A2 this morning, it would hang on login. I had to reboot to get it to work. Check the log where it has all those update fails. It kept trying to update, but failed. Once I rebooted it just worked.

Why oh why have you written Logos alpha 2 to download in the background with no indication anywhere that it's doing anything but freezing or looping?  If I didn't know where the log was, I would never know anything was downloading.  I have no indicator in my menu bar.  Does everyone else have the so-called blue download icon in their menubar?

Also, is all the downloaded data in the same Logos4 folder in Application Support?

Thanks from the Accordance to Logos 4 switcher.

An addon to my previous post.  Activity Monitor shows the Logos app "not responding", but the log shows activity.  Does anyone know the name of the process that is doing the downloading?

I for one am extremely pleased with where this is... remember we're looking at only the second public build of the program after a complete code-base change / rewrite.  This isn't even "beta" code, and Logos has said all over the place - it's alpha, don't use it for anything other than providing feed-back / testing.

In this is not the proper way to help.  It is Alpha software Richard.  If you are unable to provide logs and proper comments, then it is probably best you wait it out until all the work is done for you.

I sincerely apologize for my emotional comment.  I want to send you my log file, but I must ashamedly admit that I don't see how to attach a file to a forum post like this.  Please tell me how to do that.

    Thanks!

logos freezes ALOT randomly and then I have to force quit it.

also found a really weird bug...if i type in the search bar at the top of the window and hit enter logos quits...it just disappears...like a horrible magic trick!

    here's my log file: 1732.Logos4.log

If you do a full reply, you should have an Insert Media option in the toolbar above the reply  (believe it or not, the icon for Insert Media is supposed to look like a film strip with a plus sign). Clicking on that should give you an option to upload your log files. Don't worry, you wouldn't be the first to miss that icon.

Open library, choose resource, but close library causes stall. Thanks for the hard work; 6675.Console Messages.log

I posted this under its own topic, but I am repeating it here because it looks like this is what you guys prefer...Thanks for all your hard work!  Glad to be able to help test this!

I have been able to reproduce this error several times.  After
entering a verse reference in the home page bar, PG and EG generate (as
well as they can at this point)  When I then attempt to open my
library, the program crashes....I just verified that I can safely open
my Library if I do not run these guides.

    Blessings,

Hey. I get this strange error in the logs whenever I run the command "Update Now." I thought it was related to the issues I was having yesterday. Maybe I am being paranoid, but whenever I see "fail" and "error" I tend to think something is wrong. Is this a bug?

Also, should I post the entire log file, or is this excerpt enough?
