Logos 4.5 markup Notes

I was very disappointed with the functionality of logos 4.5 new markup features. Considering that the goal is to make bible studying easier, Adding new features to the program without that in view does not serve the body of Christ. In my opinion, 4.5 added allot of overhead with little to no real benefits. for instance why didn't Logos include markup names in the new palette note files as headings and move the markup information(from resources) to the body of the note. At least with the sorting features we could group and jump to all categories of our markup. I cannot believe that a simple common sense feature like this could be over looked. I have markups for issues pertaining to central truths, light, faith, wrath, repent ect in one palette. why can't i group all my faith or repent issues in my new palette note file?? Now, because i do extensive markups, i have two very large note file with next to useless information. Unless i click the markup link and go to the resource, i do not know what issues i have marked up although the information is sitting in the Palette!! Bring that information out of the palette and into the file itself please!!

Hi
I'm sorry but I don't understand the point you are making.
Do you mean that if you have a markup called, for example, "atonement" that the word "atonement" is present in the notesfile as well?
Could you please provide an example of what you would like to be able to do?
Thanks, Graham

Yes!! As a heading in the Note file. How else can you tell what is being marked up?? unless you click on the icon which takes you to the Pallet where that info is available. The Palette note file gives you no info at all. unless you click the reference. I would like the ability to group my markups via sort. What can you do right now with that file except to do more efficient deletions. also you should be able to get to the file via context menu right click on markups in any resource!

The note in the notesfile shows you that something in the resource has been marked up. It can have different colours and icons associated with it. So this tells you that there is a markup in the resource.
To see the details of the markup, you click on the note and it takes you to the resource where you can see the markup.

You can sort notes by reference, date added, title and note colour

if you associate icons with your markups (which is the default for notes by reference but not by selection and is not the default for highlights) then if you click on the icon you get taken to the relevant place in the notes file.
I'm pretty sure I am not addressing your real concerns here but I'm afraid I still don't understand what you are trying to do.

Comparing notes and passage list, noticed passage list has right click option to insert heading, but notes does not.
Adding heading in note files is an intriguing suggestion, which could also be used with Logos 4.5 indentation feature. Work around is adding a note, then use title for heading. If heading is added to notes, wonder how heading(s) should be sorted ?

Sorting by highlighting style could be useful, especially for inductive studies. Also, an option to show/hide highlighting style name in note file would be appreciated. Workaround is embedding style name in Title (e.g. prefix). Personally wish highlighting note title had style name plus snippet of selected text (add prefix to text snippet).

Actually, the early betas did include information within the body of the note to trace the origin of the note. In the beta testing there was considerable discussion over the difficulty in identifying the correct markup note for deletion. I don't know why Logos chose a implementation with a heading of only the citation and highlighted text. I'm sure there is some support for your idea. You may also wish to enter it in uservoice.

"The note in the notesfile shows you that something in the resource has been marked up" You just stated the problem i have in a nut shell brother graham! Something is being marked up but what is it?? Going to the resource itself to find out makes the file almost useless. I could navigate the resource by annotation(markup) without having a palette note file to do that for me! Think about how much more useful the file would be if the reference had markup names or labels directly associated with it within the file itself, possibly in the title section of the note! Then with sort by title you could navigate to specific markups in your resources.

[Y] Title = Highlighting style name, would like title to change when highlighting style is changed, which would allow sort by title to group highlighting styles together.
Then Body has complete copy of selected text plus option to add more.

Sounds to me like what you really want is:
- the ability to see a coloured icon in the note file without any icon in the text,
- the ability to set a different note colour/indicator for each style in the palette, and
- 'inductive note indicators'; note indicators that look like little miniatures of the style used.
Given this you could then just use the existing 'Sort By Note Colour' feature.
Personally, I do not want the style name in the title, and I don't think moving the selected text into the note body would be a good idea*, but this I could support. Provided it doesn't push all the things I desperately need even further back.
* For one thing it would mean that when you're in the text trying to see the note attached to the highlight, the first thing you'd see in the popup would be a copy of the highlight, which you certainly don't need, and, even worse, if the highlight is long enough the note won't show up at all; you'd have to open the note file to see it. Which makes the whole idea with a popup pretty pointless...
And for another, not having the selected text in the title would make most files useless in compact mode. You couldn't identify anything. You'd have 10 or 20 notes all saying something like Genesis 1:1-6:8 Normal style (example from my JPS commentary highlighting).
I would, however, want the ability to see the whole selected text in the title. There is no reason a title can't have several lines, if need be. Perhaps a toggle button between full text and truncated? I'm guessing all those who've wanted a book 'summary' of all their highlights, to review before an exam or something, would love that ability.

For highlighting, would like to see entire text in note file, possibly with an option for placement into title or content.
After highlighting same verse in two bibles, the titles were identical in note file since word variance was in the middle of the verse (my oops: deleted highlighting in different Bible than intended). Also wish note by reference had highlighting style option.

Olive Tree bible reader does this. Very well. Some bibles are free. I have quit using Logos for these reasons. It is difficult for bible programmers who think bible first then programming to think platform / user first then bible. One has to have insight and be clever.
