Will auto hyperlinks in notes be coming soon with the new editor features?
Excuse me for stealing a quote from another thread… [:O]
On Mac specifically, users will be getting some very long-desired features like auto reference detection, improved list support and editing, etc.
Does "will be" imply that this feature should NOT be working currently in the new beta?
Use my own words against me?! [;)]
I developed the core, cross-platform aspect of the new editor which fully supports reference detection. I will get a Mac client desktop dev to come answer your question specifically.
Thanks Alan. [:)]
Bible references are automatically hyperlinked as you type. Edit for clarity: By "will have", I mean that this behavior is shipping in the current beta.
This is not working for me. Would you like logs? (I may have to post later tonight).
I also am not seeing auto hyperlinking on mac either.
I create a new (or old) note file. Create a new note. Enter John 3:16 and nothing happens.
Steps and screenshots would probably suffice. What are you typing that doesn't work?
This is true for websites as well (i.e. www.logos.com)
Here is my version #
Did the wrong version get shipped?
Throwing a long ball here: In another thread it seemed to a Logos employee like Graham still uses the old editor as well. Since we now know it's the same editor accross platforms, I seem to recall a post that on the mobile platform betas they had a switch "use new editor yes/no". Maybe this setting is synched to the desktop and thus lets you use the old one?
The new notes editor will not auto-generate hyperlinks for existing references. However, you should find that normal URL references (e.g. "www.logos.com") and Bible references are automatically hyperlinked as you type.
Do I understand that to mean breaking the existing bible verse references on Windows is by design?
Also there may be situations where people paste copied text into notes, which doesn't invoke the auto-detect which seems to be tied to typing "space" after a reference - I strongly wish for a button "detect references"

I strongly wish for clarity. so far this new editor won't drag and drop and now it won't pick up existing references ...

The right version is shipped, but there appears to be some cases where the new editor is not activated appropriately. I am tracking down those issues. You may confirm that you are using the new editor by explicitly creating a link with the hyperlink button in the toolbar. Currently, the new editor will display links in a darker blue than the rest of the application. This may be used as a visual indicator of which version is running. If you don't mind, please take a screenshot with a link and post it to confirm.

We do not break or remove any data by design. We have identified areas where reference may not work correctly and will fix those in a future release. Also, references should be detected whenever data is pasted into the new editor. It may not be a one-click experience, but I hope that it will suffice.
No.
There should be no reduction in functionality. However, bugs can (and do!) happen. I guess that's why they call it "beta". [;)]

Sure. I also want to give you logs from a crash. It was repeatable. After I created the links, I tried to click around a bit in the note file and it crashed repeatedly. I wasnt necessarily trying to activate the hyperlink... just clicking around in the note itself. Here is the log: 8228.Logos.log
As far as the screenshots: In the first screenshot I have manually added two links. NOTE: the www.logos.com was bolded by me. The second screen shot shows the hyperlinks have disappeared when the app restarted.

So it looks as though I am not accessing the new editor?
The first link - to Mark 1:4 - was created just by typing the reference in the note field, the second - to BDAG - was created by pasting a link into the hyperlink box.
The new editor will do that! Just paste text with non-bible links from BDAG into a note. The new editor doesn't preserve the hyperlinks.

Logos 5.1 Beta 1 is a bit buggy on Windows 7:
Keep Smiling [:)]
Did you post your text into the note or type it?
Thank you for reporting this. I will investigate the crash.
I will look into issues with the BDAG.
I have created a case to investigate automatic hyperlinking issues.
Grayson - Could you determine from my screenshot if I am using the new editor or not?
Yes you are (evidenced by the dark blue links).
Note: the link color will be changing back to the lighter blue that matches the rest of the app soon.
I'm not able to reproduce this crash. I suspect that I'm not recreating the problem precisely. Could you provide additional information on how the note was created or possibly share the note data with me?

Here is a new log file:
8836.Logos.log
If you read my posts in this thread, you can get the steps (I think). I created the note file just to test the auto hyperlink feature. After reading your last post, I played around a bit more... I think I can pinpoint the problem... It is after I manually add www.logos.com as a hyperlink.
I dont know how to share the note file with you, but you are more than welcome to it... however... it wont save after I add the hyperlink. FYI - I tried adding hyperlinks to references, and they seemed to work... however, since the app crashed, the hyperlinks were gone (including the biblical references).
FYI - I will be leaving town for a job interview and wont have access to my beta version for about a week. If you get to this tonight, I may be able to help out more. Feel free to send an email if need be.
I've attempted to follow the steps as you've mentioned earlier, but cannot reproduce the crash. If you use Faithlife, I have created a group called Notes Improvement. If you join the group, you can Publish your problematic note to the group from documents.logos.com. I can then grab a copy. I hope that is feasible.
Good luck with your interview.
If you join the group, you can Publish your problematic note to the group from documents.logos.com. I can then grab a copy.
Done. I can also add that hyperlinks are NOT saving at all. You will notice the one hyperlink, but it is a note by reference. Any one that I add is deleted when the document opens again. Also, to repeat what I said above, the only thing that is causing my app to crash is adding www.logos.com as a hyperlink to the text www.logos.com.
I wanted to follow up and say thank you for that data. I believe that I have a clearer understanding of the problem and will have a potential fix for the crash the next beta. I will continue looking for why the link detection is failing.
Thanks Grayson. [:)]
