Logos: Steve Ray Collection PrePub and Verbum+

Logos: The Steve Ray Collection is scheduled to ship on January 9th for $24.95. I already received one of the volumes (Upon This Rock) as part of my Verbum+ upgrade. I would like the other volume (St. John's Gospel). I don't want to pay again for Upon This Rock. How can I receive a reduction in the pre pub price so I just get St. John's Gospel?

I have already alerted Andrew about this. He's looking into it.

Let's hope this can be clarified. Thanks.

I too was concerned about this, and by email I was advised by the Logos Support Department to cancel my pre-pub and just purchase the Gospel of John after it went live. So I did that and cancelled my pre-pub order after upgrading to Capstone+.
But if it is possible to place a pre-pub order for just the Gospel of John so that I can still take advantage of the discount, I would love to do that. I had placed my pre-pub order for this the moment that was possible, as I love Steve Ray's work.
Thanks, Logos, for looking into this.

The problem is that, of Logos doesn't immediately break up the collection, you can't purchase only St. John's Gospel. Also, you miss the pre pub discount.

That's a very good point. I hadn't considered the possibility that the two books might not be available individually after it leaves pre-pub. This indeed sounds like something Logos needs to resolve.

???
It generally takes at least 6 months before collections are broken up. Sometimes a year. Sometimes even more. I want it faster than that.
I haven't heard anything further, but Andrew said that "I’m going to look into this, especially the Steve Ray problem. Thanks for the heads up", so I assume he is.

Have you received a response to your query from Andrew?

No, but I just wrote him again.

Advice I got (per email from Sales) was to cancel the pre-pub and pick up the second book after release as an individual.
Or it may be better to get it per dynamic pricing on the bundle (whichever may be less).0 -

And dynamic pricing tends to take even longer. Plus I've never seen dynamic pricing for a bundle of only two books.

Finally got a reply from Andrew yesterday: "We are going to break the Steve Ray collection into individual volumes right after it ships."
Not the answer I hoped for. The prepub is $25, the shipped bundle is $30, and John is the larger book, so presumably it will be around $20, or even more, individually. Which would pretty much obliterate the discount for getting one book through Verbum+.
Sorry, but in that case I'm not buying. I'll wait for L6 and hope it's included then.

It may be too early to call. Let's wait and see what the price is. Who knows.
Thanks for the update!

Would it not have been better just to dynamically price the bundle ?

This is not the only time Logos has included (and required payment for) books that we already own. Many users have about half of the Charles Hodge Collection. We have pleaded for many months for Logos to reduce the price or break up the set, to no avail. I will be surprised to see Logos take any action on this set.

On the surface of it I feel as Logos is doing the wrong thing in this instance. They love to sprout you only pay once for a resource - but if this was totally true all collections would have dynamic pricing. I've come to see you only pay once as a throw away marketing line.
However dynamic pricing on Capstone + meant I got an extremely good price that added a lot more value to my library than what I actually paid. So in the overall wash of things even if I pay the prepub price I still come out a winner by a long stretch.
We haven't had an official posting by Logos on the situation and there may even be publishing requirements that have their hand limited in what can be done - I don't have all the facts, and may never have them. So why I personally feel they could have handled this and other situations better, I have received so much from them over the years this one is not worth boycotting the product in order to make a protest - an official answer from Logos would be appreciated though to close of the matter.

It doesn't sound like they will give us a good price, but they aren't charging twice, and no one needs to pay the bundled prepub price. Cancel the prepub and buy the book right after it ships, if you still want it.

They already have taken action, and it doesn't get much more official than Andrew's e-mail above. Unless, of course, you believe I made it up. Do you want a screenshot?[:)]

I believe you fgh, never thought for a moment you made it up, but i don't see a personal correspondence between a customer and a company representative as an adequate response from to a question asked on a public forum. I really appreciate what you have communicated and your efforts to get that answer so if what I said implied I doubted what you said or the value of it I apologize. I simply believe Logos should answer it here themselves, rather than leave it up to a customer to become their spokesperson.

So we might save $5 by waiting. The John book has things I want now so I will buy. [Saved much on capstone plus to pay the extra]

You might save $5 or so by waiting for them to break it up (which Andrew said they'd do "right after it ships"). If it gets included in L6, you'd save pretty much the whole price. Books in Capstone are only about $2 each.
But only you can decide if it's worth waiting.

I don't need St. John's Gospel right now. Unless I can get a pre pub discount, I'm just going to cancel my entire order and Logos can loose a purchase from me. Like "fgh," I'll just wait and see if I can get it at a discount later.

I see that the collection is now in publication. Although it is not broken up, I do get dynamic pricing for the remaining volume ... $15.46.
What do you think?

I thought it was a good price and purchased it.

Your advise is always good. Have just received the Book on John. Have read the section that 'caught my eye'. For me it was worth not waiting.
Thanks.

That's not an unreasonable price. I may do the same.

I'm glad they changed their mind and decided on dynamic pricing instead of breaking it up. That explains the better price.
Though I think I'll still wait for a sale or for L6. Or perhaps I'll ask a sales rep to quote me a price if I need it. For the moment I've got quite enough to read, and this is going to be a very expensive Logos year, with Fathers of the Church and several other expensive prepubs.

I agree. I'm thinking about setting up a separate saving account so that I can put some away each payday for the Fathers of the Church. I guess I should have been doing that all along. This one is going to be worth having but require a personal sacrifice in some other areas to acquire.
