Thanks Angela for fixing those ongoing bugs.

You're welcome [:)] But the Developers are the ones who fix the bugs and crashes...Dylan and I are the ones who test the app. [:)]

Yes I realize that. I really meant to thank the whole team.
But...perhaps I spoke too soon. I just downloaded and restarted and now Logos crashes each time. [:@]
and then...

Oh no! [:(] Bruce can you please post your logs? That will help the Developer figure out exactly what is causing the crash.

You will need to open to a blank layout and wait two minutes to fix the crash, sorry. See the discussion here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/88162.aspx

We're going to temporarily stop automatic updates of 5.2b SR-2 while we fix this crash.

Thanks Bradley. That worked.
Question, if the corrupt database was fixed this morning why did I have this issue now?

That makes sense.

Your copy of Logos 5 hadn't downloaded the corrected metadata before you restarted the application.

Can we download the 5.2b SR 5.2.2.1512 now or we have to wait for a new service release?
Thanks in advance.

I'm going to be the bad guy and ask: does anyone at Logos actually test these programs as a user before the service releases go out the door? Maybe this would help to cut out those new showstopper bugs?

I get the same thing, but for Logos 5.2b version 5.2.2.1496. This just started happening today (8/21/14). I put my logs here
Have a great day,

It happens on release 5.2b Service Release 2 (5.2.2.1512). 1496 is fine for me.
Are you going to give us a new SR soon? Please advice.

What happens in 5.2b Service Release 2 (5.2.2.1512) if launch application to blank layout, followed by waiting two minutes before opening anything ?

Should we download the 5.2b SR2 (5.2.2.1512) now or wait until a new SR release?

I would personally wait or, if you don't mind download and follow the fix mentione in this thread.

Yes, 5.2b SR-2 was in testing when the crash (due to a bad metadata update) was discovered this morning.
When it passed testing, it was shipped before anyone asked "Have any other critical issues arisen since we prepared SR-2 that we should address before shipping?". This was an oversight on our part, for which I apologise.

There was no new showstopper bug. There was a bug that's been in the program (since at least 5.0) that was triggered this morning by bad metadata. The crash would happen when you restarted the program, be it 5.2b SR-2, 5.2b SR-1, or 5.0. This was simply very bad timing.
Since we know we do want to fix the crash, I've pulled SR-2 back to avoid making you install back-to-back updates.
There are no known reasons to avoid installing SR-2 if you've got the time and bandwidth to download the update manually.

Thanks for clarifying. Just so you understand, occasionally I have to field questions from the users who adopted Logos on my recommendation. I'm their unofficial "admin". So, this sort of mistake gives me shudders.

Brad:
When are you going to turn on the automatic updates back?
Thanks in advance.

Is it safe to download this update? I just stopped it.....just in case

After downloading 5.2b SR-2 suggest opening to a blank layout and waiting two minutes before opening something in Logos => http://community.logos.com/forums/t/88162.aspx
Personally downloaded Logos 5.2b SR-2, installed, opened to blank layout, waited two minutes, then have been working fine.

When a fix for the crash caused by corrupt metadata is available.

This is unnecessary unless Logos 5 crashes when you open the ESV (or a handful of other affected resources, but the ESV is the most common problem).
Most users can just restart the application normally.

Just did a manual install, perfect, no problem at all.
Thank you!

Hello! Good day!
Please help us students here in Mountain View College, Philippines. I, for one, downloaded an installer for Logos Software. This is because I know I can use it for my study in Theology. The problem is that after I was able to download i think everything, I opened the software. However, I discovered the software is of no use yet. I don't see books in its Library save Meltho Fonts User Guide. I'm confused and don't know what to do.
Other students here share the same concern. Please help us here...

Hello Jeason, welcome to the user forum.
To use the Logos software you would need to have resources. Some are free:
- Check out this wiki page: https://wiki.logos.com/Free_Logos_Books (note that I'm not sure whether the publisher offer from Crossway still works)
- Faithlife Study Bible: http://faithlifebible.com/
- Free from Logos.com https://www.logos.com/products/search?q=price%3a0
- Free from Vyrso.com https://vyrso.com/products/search?q=price%3a0
Don't download all of them, but those you'd need - the LEB English bible, the SBL Greek NT, the Lexham Bible Dictionary are first-class resources. Note that "buying" books at Logos will require a credit card number - but as long as the books are free, you won't be charged.
To really use Logos on a study of theology level will require to buy resources. As a student you will be eligible for "academic discount" which makes things substantially cheaper than on the website.
Hope this helps,
Mick

Thanks Mr. Mick,
Your suggestions were great! And I followed those links. However, I am asked of credit card even if the resources available are FREE. Worse I don't have any credit card. I felt excited yet later disappointed. What am I to do, sir?
Can anybody help?

I hope you understand why I need help.

Generally in the US when someone does not have a credit or debit card, they buy a small cash card for a valid number to use. Logos is aware that this presents a problem for some people and have assured us that they intend to change their internal software. Until that happens, a card is required even for free books.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

As long as you only "buy" free licences, I think you may utilize a dummy credit card number intended for software tests (i.e. this number is technically valid, but won't work for buying paid resources), such as American Express 378282246310005.
I do hope this works for you.

It worked very well, sir. Thanks a lot. May the Lord bless you...

Angela - Could you please "pin" the newest release notes in the L5 forum? It would be helpful when we need to direct forum members to it. Thanks. [:)]
