DEPRECATED? What does this mean?
Hi,
I look at the about page of Logos 6 and found the following:
Licensed to: **************@gmail.com | DEPRECATED Diamond v5 (IH).
What does this mean?

You might need someone to confirm this officially, but I think you'll find it means it's the L5 Diamond, which is no longer sold, as there is a new L6 Diamond base package available now.

I have that too for my L5 Portfolio.
"Deprecated" in computer lingo means obsolescent.
I think it's an unfortunate choice for them to have put that word in there. It usually is used of a feature or programming construct considered outdated, and planned to be phased out, but still available for use. Deprecated means the makers of the software strongly prefer that we don't use it. But with Logos, old base packages will continue to be useful indefinitely. There should be nothing urging us strongly to upgrade to a new base package or even to Logos 6 (until Logos 5 is no longer supported, which will be a long time). Having that word DEPRECATED in the About Box is going to make people think there is something deficient about their installation, which is absolutely not the case.
Please, Logos, reconsider this strong language.

When I first saw that word, a few years ago, I'd never heard of it before, and I thought it was a typo for "depreciated." It kind of does mean de-appreciated.

Agree it's an unfortunate word to use: it was obviously a technical person rather than a marketing type who made that decision!

I think it means you can't have children.

It's a bug. I have it on L6 Portfolio with L6 denom packages..
It may mean they are deprecating the display of library version there?

This was probably added internally as a hint to our sales people to avoid selling the L5 package by mistake. Your library is not actually "deprecated"; the Logos 5 libraries are still completely functional and supported.
I'll put in a request to get this changed.

DEPRECATED went away (server-side change as this went away before updating to SR1), but it's still reporting the wrong library version. Shows v5 instead of v6.

My license version is now blank.

Logos retrieves that information from the servers each time you open the About dialog. Since the server is down it is unable to determine what to show there.

That's true for me, too.

Mine doesn't show a version:
And what's up with the double (LE)?
Also, it must be showing the highest level purchased, because I haven't purchased Platinum since L4---I've got L5 Silver and L6 Reformed Silver.

Yes, there was some discussion about that a few weeks ago.

I remember discussing it with regards to what was displayed on the upgrade web page, but I didn't realized that the same thing showed up in the app.

What's the reason they show the base package you own (or at least the highest level)?
Wouldn't it be more helpful to show base package from each version of Logos and the different denominational packages?
So, for example, mine would read: Standard Platinum v4 (??); Standard Platinum v5 (IH); Reformed Gold v5 (IH); Standard Gold v6 (IH)

Mine shows Portfolio GK.
I own L6 portfolio, so perhaps thats the right nomenclature.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

Because for some of us thats more complicated than others...Integ said:What's the reason they show the base package you own (or at least the highest level)?

Logos 2 level 3, logos 2 nelson ultimate reference library, logos 2.6 scholars series x, logos 3 nas study bible library 3, l4 scholars, l5 platinum, l5 baptist silver, P&C silver, anglican bronze, reformed platinum, l6 portfolio, l6 baptist silver, l6 reformed bronze, l6 anglican bronze, l6 p&c Silver, need I go on? I don't think thats all the L3 packages I purchased either - logos 3 macarthur life works, nelsons macarthur study library, stanley lifeworks, j vernon mcgee lifeworks (all still l3 packages purchased), and a few others besides.
Ultimately, its cleaner to show the most recent highest base package purchased. if you need to know more, check your purchase historyL2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

You went overboard—your tag line shows what we're talking about—base packages, not lifeworks and study bible libraries.
Still, why only show the highest of one line of base packages? Why not show the highest Standard Base Package, the highest Reformed, and so on?
What's the purpose of showing anything in the first place?

My signature is incomplete because of character count.
The nelson ultimate bible reference library had something like 300 titles in it - it definitely counts. There have been a number of threads lately that indicate the users of the forum think the NAS bible study library is the current entry level Logos library. Drop it or not, its still too much to display.
Logos 2 level 3, logos 2 nelson ultimate reference library, logos 2.6 scholars series x, logos 3 nas study bible library 3, l4 scholars, l5 platinum, l5 baptist silver, P&C silver, anglican bronze, reformed platinum, l6 portfolio, l6 baptist silver, l6 reformed bronze, l6 anglican bronze, l6 p&c Silver,
That still leaves a prodigious amount of things to show. Why waste logos programming resources when you can simply click over to your order history?L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

To describe who owns the license to what. It makes a difference when more than one individual with a logos account shares a computer for support issues.
with 2 million users, even 1% having that issue would be a significant number.
The biggest thing you've bought lately is probably a reasonable way to describe what you're licensed to use.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

Fine, but why is it there in the first place? What is the purpose of it?
It was put in partly because people wanted to know, and partly to help with support. People say "Feature X" isn't working, and it allowed a quick way of checking whether Feature X should work or not. You'd be surprised how many people don't know what base package they've bought.
However, now that many of us have multiple base packages, it's much less useful than it used to be.

Thank you. That was quick turnaround! Fixed already.

Users often don't know. I've been helping students with a school package and trying to decided: "new bundle" or just "upgrade". A number of students misreported their packages - which sometimes created extra work (when we gave them the wrong thing and they complained about the cost). We got it all fixed, but it reminded me not everyone is as obsessive about package details as I am.
