Download Problems Persist in Beta 3

Having (manually) downloaded and installed Beta 3 (4.30.0.0376)
with no problems, I was surprised when I launched the program to find that it
immediately attempted to download an update of 151.5 MB and that, as with Beta
2, this download froze at 1% of 151.5 MB. After waiting a while to make sure
that the download was indeed frozen, I cancelled the download and manually executed
an ‘update resources’ command to try to manually download any resources that
needed to be updated. This located 164.9 MB of resources that needed to be
updated. They began to download but froze at 5% of 164.9 MB. I then did a
‘cancel all’ to stop all processes that were attempting to download items and
quit the program. When I restarted I had the same experience with the attempted
download of 151.5 MB that I have had ever since Beta 2 was released, as
described above. I again cancelled the frozen update at 1% of 151.5 MB. After
waiting a few minutes I again executed an ‘update resources’ command. This time
I got the message that 151.5 MB of updates were found. These began to download,
but again froze, this time at 0%. I repeated the process a third time with the
same results: cancel all … quit and restart … auto download of 151.5 MB that
froze at 1% … cancel … update resources … attempted download of 151.5 MB of updates that
froze at 1%.

So it seems that the download bug introduced with
Beta 2 has not been fixed in Beta 3, at least not for me. In this case, “those who
sit in darkness” (software-wise) still sit in darkness, waiting for the light
to shine. Sigh! Tomorrow is another day....

Ah ... I read the 'known issues' list but did not recognize in that item a reference to what I was experiencing.

Workaround: wonder about downloading http://resources.assets.logos.com/lls_1000bblimg/2010-11-22T21_40_12Z/1000BBLIMG.logos4 to your Mac desktop, then use scan command. WIki Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X (Supported – saves resource downloading) section includes example scan command followed by restarting Logos 4 Mac.

The 1000 Bible Images file is 151 MB, which was updated on 22 Nov 2010 (my Logos library has 5 resources that are larger than 1000 Bible Images, most resources are smaller).

I'm having similar problems downloading, but my download is smaller at 89.7 MB. I tried finding my indexer.log, but I don't have a ~/library/Application Support/Logos4 directory.... is that normal? (I only have ~/library/Application Support/Libronix DLS)

Mac OS X has two Library paths, system /Library used by all Mac users (and Mac OS X) along with ~/Library for each Mac user. The ~ represents /Users/username where username is your Mac login.

Suspect "(I only have ~/library/Application Support/Libronix DLS)" is referring to Logos for Mac 1.2.2 system wide location of /Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS

Thanks. I decided to remove all installations on my Mac (using Amnesia) and then installed 4.3 beta 3 fresh. Had problems downloading with download freezing. If I terminated the download, a popup would ask if I wanted to add the new resources to my library, but often clicking OK hung the installer. I found that if I deleted the download.db, I was able to re-initiate the download until it worked. Annoying, but eventually I downloaded my whole library in fits and starts and a number of re-downloads.

I can't imagine my logs would help as I'm experiencing the same thing so many others have reported. I'm certain they have all the logs they need. It's really too much effort at this point. I just hope for a usuable release eventually.

If you install LogosLogScribe the process of collecting log files is greatly simplified.

For grins after installing Logos 4.3 Beta 4 (4.30.0.0442), hide "1,000 Bible Images" resource then restarted Beta 4. Hidden resource file deletion was recorded in Indexer.log file. Then unhide "1,000 Bible Images" and restarted Beta 4, which scanned Logos for Mac 1.2.2 => Found new/updated resource 'LLS:1000BBLIMG' version 2009-06-08T21:09:47Z at '/Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Resources/1000BBLIMG.lbxlls' so older resource file was copied and began indexing. However, indexing was canceled since download of newer resource needed and surprisingly, Logos 4 Indexer quit (did not download). So restarted Beta 4 again and received two growl messages: downloading 151.5 MB plus indexing library. Looking at Indexer.log file, noticed indexing for older 1000BBLIMG.lbxlls was merged while newer Logos 4 version of "1,000 Bible Images" was being downloaded. After indexing merged, status changed to Background Downloading.

When nearly done downloading "1,000 Bible Images", ERROR: Unable to download http://resources.assets.logos.com/lls_1000bblimg/2010-11-22T21_40_12Z/1000BBLIMG.logos4: System.Net.WebException: The operation has timed out.

Download restarted for 151.5 MB (complete file) and ERROR repeated. Canceled Download and restarted Beta 4, which then had 168.0 MB for resource download, patching, and indexing (had download job status fail for 1000BBLIMG.logos4). Once index postings merged, restarted Beta 4 again (noticed more time out errors for 1000BBLIMG.logos4).

While 1000BBLIMG.logos4 was downloading, clicked "Cancel download", Indexer.log file showed change to index another resource, but did not cancel 1000BBLIMG.logos4 download (not show download when clicking on Indexer icon), but Activity Monitor showed file download continuing (so force quit Logos 4 Indexer that was running after Indexer.log had shutting down message). Restarted Beta 4; download 1000BBLIMG.logos4 happening again, yet this time download completed without error, followed by resource discovery and indexing (bit tedious to unhide one resource).

With now the third beta (beta 4) that won't download updates, I completely gave up and deleted Logos in its entirety from my MacBook Pro. The last few betas have been more problematic than any of the early alphas in regard to downloading updates. I even considered not reinstalling at all, but finally decided to after all and have 8.41 GB of resources downloading (again). But I was also careful to install the stable release and not the beta. I won't be making that mistake again.

My system refused to download Beta 4, but after a manual download and install, everything works as expected.

The download problems will be resolved with Beta 6. Once it is installed downloads should work correctly.

Just FYI. I had drive problems and had to revert to my old drive that was still on B2 or B3 I think. I did the manual update, since the auto update failed. But now that I am on B5, it just downloaded and started indexing about 185m without incident.
