i have built another tool for Logos4.

The name of the tool is mFavs. Think of it as an extension of the L4 shortcut bar. It allows you to create groups of resource links in multiple tabbed pages. Then just click on one of the resources in the list and then click on the Open Book button and it sends a command to L4 to open that book.

Is your L4 shortcut bar crowded?
Then try mFavs

Do you get frustrated in finding some books in your library?
Then try mFavs

Do you have a lot of books which you haven't yet explored?
Then try mFavs

The installation program & help docs are on this new website mFavs for Logos 4

1. you setup up to 16 different tab buttons. Each tab button has its own list of resources.

2. In the list click on the resource that you want to open in L4 to select it.

3. Then click on the Open Book button and mFav opens the book in L4.

hope you find it useful,
steve

Just recompiled, i forgot to change the Help link in the mFavs page.

Also updated the webpage, so you might need to refresh the webpage to ensure that you are seeing the latest version of the pages.

Just tried to install and got a message saying that Microsoft Visual Basic Powerpack 10.0.0 needed to be installed.

Microsoft Visual Basic Powerpack 10.0.0 needed to be installed.

Hmm...if you don't already have Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile installed, the installer will attempt to install it. i am not familiar with Powerpack and cannot see it installed on my computer (via Control Panel). Perhaps you have another app installed on your computer which interacts with .NET 4.

Sorry i have no firm solution for you [:(]

EDIT: i am looking at my compiler and see it there, so the program uses it to draw some tools in mFav's window. So did the installer try to install it for you?

EDIT2: see the next post down that i wrote.

I haven't tried this tool yet; but I did install and love the Quick Links.  There was a procedure to go thru to install on two computers.  Would that be the case for mFav?  I have a laptop and desktop.  Thank you.

Think i figured out how to force installing of the Powerpack with mFav installation.

i just put up a new version in the mFav Installer page. Try to download it and reinstall it, i am hoping that it tries to install the Powerpack along with mFav. (Powerpack is a dll which is used by mFav)

    Hi Jane,

    Welcome to the Forum!!!

Would that be the case for mFav?  I have a laptop and desktop.

You will have to install mFav on each computer where you have L4 installed. But if you create the shortcut to mFav as described on this page on the first computer, then you will not need to add shortcuts in L4 on the other computers as L4 will show the same shortcut on other L4 computers via sync. The other computers will just need mFav installed.

Steve, this is nice. I suppose I can do the same by creating folders in Favorites, but this is a nice utility on its own. It installed just fine.

    Hi Mark,

You are right about using L4's favorites. i have my L4 favorites quiet filled up with projects and such. This tool doesn't use screen space and i have a few tabs in it with more than 50 resources which scroll better for me. It is something that i wanted, so i built it. Naturally i thought that i would share it with my brothers & sisters on the forum. Hope that you find a use for it.

    It installed just fine.

Thanks for the feedback!!! Since the only computer that i have is the same one that i developed it on, i did not know how it would install on others computers. Thanks to Leigh, he let me know that one of the DLLs didn't originally get included in the installer (so i fixed that). So if it installed on your computer, there is a fair chance that it will install on others.

    it will install on others.

I installed it just fine.  I have begun putting together groups of resources.  I would be interested in knowing how others are using this tool in a different way than collections, favorites and the short cut bar.  I also installed quick links.  Thanks Steve!  I believe these tools will be helpful additions to L4.

Thanks for the new tool.  Works great !  I still need to read about renaming the search criteria in order to pull up other resources (i.e. study bibles, etc.)

    Hi Cliff,

I still need to read about renaming the search criteria in order to pull up other resources (i.e. study bibles, etc.)

See page 2 and look at item #6.

This is a mechanism which is built into the API (under the hood method for programming control of Logos4), listing books by type. This type is similar as when you click on the TYPE column in the Logos4 library window.

The only other alternative is to list every book in your library (and that might overwhelm the listbox with users with many thousands of book in their library).

    Glad that you like it!!!

If you click on the Edit panel and then click on Add Book(s) button, you will be taken to the Add Resources window. There you can see all your resources by TYPE. See page 2 of the Help PDF and look at item #6 in the description for navigating TYPE.

    Sam West said:

    (i have 1326 resources)

mFav will allow up to 16 different Tabs and each Tab can hold up to 250 resource titles. So the maximum number of resources that are possible in mFav is 4000. That being said, you probably will not find mFav as useful as Logos 4's Library when trying to find all your resources. It was more or less intended for a reasonable number of resources in each Tab. i have a couple of Tabs that i have 50 resources in, but for the most part i have around 10-25 resources in the majority of my Tabs. i use mFav to aid me in finding specific types of books that i regularly use. So having a reasonable number of resources in a Tab makes it quick and easy for me to locate them.

i thought about others that might want to have more than 16 Tabs. So i added the ability to EXPORT/IMPORT different sets of 16 TABS. (sorry for the capitalization, did to help you notice buttons/commands in mFav).

    Sam West said:

I would like to set it up like my collection is this possible?

mFav is a simple application. So it does not have any of the scripting parsing capability of Collections. Sorry, it is a manual operation to add resources to each Tab. The good news is that once you add your resources to a Tab and arrange them how you like it, you don't need to do it again.

    Hi Tim,

    Keep these tools coming!

At this point i don't have any other ideas on making more tools. Logos API has a very limited number of functions available to the user. But you never know, i might think of something and/or Logos might offer some new API functions.

Where can I find the other tools you have created?

This is only the 2nd tool that i have built. Both are accessed on separate webpages. See QLinks & mFav links below in my signature. They will take you the respective webpages, which have download & installation instructions.

Hope you find it useful to you!

    Not good [:(]

The problem appears to be inability to connect to Logos 4 via the Logos 4 COM API, which is the heart of what my program uses. Sorry brother [:(], i don't have any way to troubleshoot this issue since it is Logos's COM.

I wish I could understand where the hang is...I don't really comprehend why I'm having a problem communicating to Logos, especially since I don't seem to have any discernable issue aside from the problem with your tools. Strange.

I wish I could understand where the hang is...I don't really comprehend why I'm having a problem communicating to Logos, especially since I don't seem to have any discernable issue aside from the problem with your tools. Strange.

Logos4.exe is the main program which runs your Logos 4 app. It is running as it should.

LogosCom.exe is a program which Logos has created which runs in the background (as i understand it). It is used to provide communications between other apps and the Logos4 app. In QuickLinks & mFav programs they try to establish communication with LogosCom to communicate with Logos4. If this is not working then my apps cannot communicate with Logos4.

LogosCom is setup during the installation of L4. i have no info on what they do to get this done. They probably have to register it with windows and they might setup controls in the registry. There is very much that i do not know what they are doing here.

On one of the 2 computers that i mentioned in the other thread, after connecting remotely to his computer, he had an unusual configuration of windows. Not being in any way an expert, it appeared that his AppData folder (where L4 resides) was hidden. i might even guess that it had been compressed to save disk space. So it is beyond my abilities to troubleshoot that along with not being familiar with how/what Logos is doing. One thing that is positive is that my apps have installed and worked on several computer with a variety of Operating Systems. But that doesn't help in yours & a couple of others cases. Wish i was brighter and could figure it out for you.

There are only a handful of people on this planet who have created two or more tools for Logos. (Mark Barnes & Dave Hooton come to mind.) That makes you pretty special in my estimation.  Thanks for the work and "keep them coming"  -as Tim said.

No problem Sam. The VB installer always want to install from the same folder that it was originally installed from (probably a safety mechanism inside of windows to prevent malicious software from hacking your program). Why don't we move this conversation to email, that way we can communicate faster than using the forum. email me here and i will respond quickly with details on how to get going( admin AT clark-tx DOT net).
