Page 25 of MP Training Manual Volume 2 is Missing Text

In my copy of volume 2 of the recently shipped MP Training Manuals, on page 25 dealing with "Notes", the printed text stops mid-sentence in the second bullet point under the diagram. I.e. it reads

A Note indicator has been placed in this resource and all topically indexed books next to the headword of the article showing you have

I'm guessing this will be the case in all copies, but thought I'd check just in case it was a printing problem that only affected some copies. Any else missing text on that page?

I just checked and, yes, I am missing the rest of the text too. Its the same error you are seeing.

FYI, I received my manuals from Morris Proctor and not Logos and I have the same missing text.

My copy seems to be complete, unless I'm misunderstanding the sentence. Mine reads exactly as follows (including where the line breaks are):

"A Note indicator has been placed in this resource and all topically

Bizarre that this is a problem only with some copies of it. You would have thought all the printed manuals would have been made in one production run and would have all had the same glitch if it was in any of them.

I'm sure they will send out an erratum page once they become aware of this problem. Kind of annoying though, as errata pages don't fix the actual problem, they just provide a way for you to look up what it's supposed to be. One of the problems with having these manuals still only be available in print. If it was a digital book in Logos format, it would be a piece of cake to fix a missing text problem and push the fix out to all users at once. No postage required!

Agreed. I bought this even though I rarely purchase physical books anymore. And this just serves to reinforce my conviction to stick with digital. Paper seems so 15th century.

Of course, I plan to have the spine cut off these and turn them into PDFs, but I'm still stuck with an error regardless.

I love the fresh smell of new digitized books.

Well now you have the photo of what that page is supposed to look like (thanks, Steve, for posting it!) so you could replace your copy of that page with Steve's in your PDF.

I hope I get the version without the error. Mine haven't arrived yet. I'm in Canada and surprisingly it takes longer for packages to get here to Vancouver from Bellingham, about an hour's drive away, than it does to get all the way across the US. I think they all go through some central processing point back East in Ontario or something. And before they even get there, they have to wait to clear customs. Uggh!

I am having to send my Volume 1 back, it was damaged in shipping. But I think I need to page through everything and make sure there are no other issues. Ugh!

I haven't done much digging in the manuals yet, but have found a couple more errors. But no show-stoppers and easier to work around than missing text and diagrams. E.g. the index in Volume 1 lists page 126 as the first page for tags, but it actually starts on page 125. And at the top of page 38 in volume 2, the labels on the diagram don't match up with the text that references them.

I am a little disappointed in the errors I've found already considering how few pages I've read so far, but I still think the manuals will be a help and don't think I'll have any regrets as long as the ratio of errors to pages read drops off. [8-|]

Like Steve, my copies suffered a little damage in shipping as well, but not enough to return them. I think the packaging needs to be beefed up a little.

I've looked at the diagram and labelling in my copy of Volume 2 - it appears that everything lines up as it should. However, this is discouraging. It appears that there may have been at least two different printings that were produced and at least one contains errors.

I wonder if Faithlife can identify the erroneous printings and replace those? At the least they have a claim with the contractor that did the printing.

EDIT: Also, I wonder if we should flag this post so the Faithlife see's it? I created a separate thread linking back to this one.

My manuals weren't damaged in shipping - but that was luck, as the packaging was a bit flimsy. But I have the same error on page 25, vol. 2. I'm also hoping that the errors are relatively few and far between. I'm also wondering why the manuals aren't available in a digital format. They would be much easier to work with, and errors like these could be fixed in the next update. It would be far cheaper for Faithlife than to send out new printed manuals to everyone who has these errors!

BTW, any chance that Faithlife would mail out a corrected version of the manuals to those of us who have errors on ours? (Not holding my breath...)

I would hold off on cutting the spine for now. MP did offer a PDF of a manual at some point (not sure if he still does), but you would have to contact them to get it emailed to you. Contact MP, its worth a try.

I would add that I did contact Customer Service via e-mail about the damaged Volume 1. I received a note back indicating that they would ship out another copy. Also, that I needed to send back the damaged copy by whatever method I prefer. It will cost me a couple of dollars, but I like to have my books in the best possible shape and the return will be worth it for me, I hope.

Keeping my fingers crossed as yet to receive my two volume manuals.

In any event, posting a full PDF version of the page HERE is only good for those who are or will be reading this thread. Otherwise they will be having the erroneous page 25 without their knowledge until a later time perhaps. Please do consider the whole spectrum of customers who purchased these manuals.

Mine arrived this morning. The package was damaged. It wasn't very well packaged for such a heavy set of books.

The books inside were not damaged enough to bother asking for a replacement, though.

Fortunately I got one of the ones without the missing text on p. 25 of vol. 2.

Publishers loathe PDFs because they fear they will be distributed freely. I understand that, but I simply prefer digital over physical for most books, especially these kind.

I was teaching a college-level philosophy class, and we were using a textbook from Cambridge Press, that to my knowledge is still unavailable in any kind of ebook form. After persistent requests for an ebook version of the title, I mentioned to the academic rep in an off-the-cuff statement that I would just have to scan and digitize the 800-page book myself. She reacted quite strongly (for an email) that "WE DON'T ALLOW OUR BOOKS TO BE SCANNED."

Knowing that I am well within my rights as long as I don't distribute copies, I simply thanked her, scanned the book and continued to use it until we went to something else that does have an ebook edition. I've even offered a seminar in the past to fellow faculty members demonstrating how to digitize books on one's own.

My Fujitsu ScanSnap document scanner gets lots of use.

Thanks for posting the pic of the shipping package, Rosie. Mine was damaged similarly, to include bent and crushed books. It may seem a little on the light-weight side for packaging, but it is an approved USPS package making its way through the USPS system.

It's poor delivery performance, it results in bad customer experience. I think Faithlife has a legitimate complaint to resolve with USPS. I'd be wanting a big bunch of refunds if I were them. Packages say they are Tracked and Insured.

Mine arrived today at the Canada Post superbox. It was in great shape except for the upper-left corner of Volume 1 being slightly bent. The envelope was slightly creased as well. Other than that, they are in good condition. However, I am missing the bottom of page 25 in volume 2 as others have posted.

Today was a good day for deliveries, as I also received my new Dell Precision M4800 laptop!!

So, I guess you won on both--day earlier delivery and the right version of the page!

PS. Per your question, regular mail is brought back and forth to Vancouver Island via multiple trucks, multiple times per day on the various ferry routes. We used to have mail processing facilities in Nanaimo and Victoria up until a couple of years ago when all processing went to Vancouver.

Mine arrived yesterday - Looks at first check that I have the full text editions - but the packaging was a little "poorly" - and for a dispatch that needed to travel internationally and contain quite heavy paper based books - it was a bit much to expect.

Anyway the damage was minimal (slight dents to one corner) - and no-one liked what they saw in the mailing system to "half inch" them!
