The Handbook I have found as a great to use as a nice overview of the "literal sense" of the book, as well as a nice outline of the book. Hopefully both might be added soon!

This may be off-topic, but how does that work buying a used version of a previous iteration of Logos? There are some titles like the Jerome Biblical Commentary that I'd like to have and am wondering if that would be a good way to obtain it.

I knew I had asked about this - Louis St. Hilaire, who is still around, sent me this in 2011, so it does sound like rights issues. But maybe the publisher is more savvy about the benefit of the digital world now almost 5 years later!

I don't think that it is possible to sync from L3 any longer, so you would need to send the license file to Logos to unlock the books for you. As far as getting an old version, you just have to keep an eye out on ebay or the like.

I realize the Prentice Hall in the past has been objectionable to having their book in Logos format but I have to believe saner heads are there now (when I say that I mean that Digital copies are just as important if not more so than paper copies in 2016, indeed I have 2nd edition but will not even think of getting the 3rd edition till it can be purchased in an electronic format).

Yep, I knew it was the older version - I still see it as a valuable resource to have (I have the hardcover version of the New Jerome Biblical Commentary).

Just a bit of an update, for those who think they might want the old version and looking to get it on eBay, there are a few more steps involved in getting it "unlocked" on the newer versions of Logos/Verbum.

1) The Serial Number/Registration code is not in the actual box - you have to install the software first. Which means you need to have, or have access to, a machine running windows 95 or XP - fortunately, our school had a laptop that we could run in XP mode on and it worked.

2) Once installed, you then need to follow these steps to extract the LSB File: https://www.logos.com/about-lls and send that into Logos Customer Care. They will use that to then unlock the books in that edition.

It took me many years scouring the net to locate my copy. Eventually I found an unopened copy for sale from a small catholic book store in the midwest... I am not sure if they had just recently gone online or what but I was very happy after i think a near 5 year search for it.

I must have just gotten lucky - there was one on eBay for $29 last week. Shipping was $7.95. It arrived yesterday and now have it installed.

I actually was able to get 3 new (to me) resources out of it:

Jerome Biblical Commentary (Old Edition)
New Jerusalem Bible Reader's Edition (I have the one with notes on prepub)
NAB (old edition)

While they are all older editions/resources, I still think they are valuable to have as I do like to compare what the "revised" and updated ones change. It is also valuable since you can't get the older resources on Verbum/Logos any more.

It's actually pretty easy to "follow a search"/create a watchlist. Make sure you are logged into eBay, then do a search: Logos 2.0 Catholic and then you will see the search results. There is a link at the top to "Follow this Search". If you click it, it will set up notifications when things are posted that matches that search. For things that I have really been looking for, I tried using a couple different search combinations and followed them: "Logos Catholic", "Logos 2.0", etc.

That way, in case something is listed that fits one but not the other, you will still be notified.

There is still a wealth of good useful material in the original volume. For my money the New Jerome is the best single volume commentary available irrespective of theological tradition. The references from commentary on to precise numbered paragraphs in the theological and other sections make it a fabulously easy and "full" resource to use for a single volume work. In the Verbum/Logos system of links at a click it would be absolute dynamite and a joy to use.

Please Verbum publish it.

Most of you already know that I use Logos Bible Study software every day! There is nothing to compare with it. I have used it since 1990, never believing it would be as user friendly and powerful as it is today.

And now they have three new products worthy of the name “Catholic.”

I am thinking there might be a rights issue with the Old Jerome Commentary - as that is also what seems to be the issue with the New Jerome Biblical Commentary (from earlier posts). However, you can get the Old Jerome Commentary if you can find the "Logos 2 Catholic" program on eBay (I was able to snag a new, sealed, copy for about $30), you can install it, get the license code, and Faithlife will apply it to your account and you will have the Old Jerome Commentary. It also includes the original NAB bible and a couple other resources which I was thrilled to have since they are no longer available on Logos (the other included resources are still available, but those two resources made the $30 well worth it in my mind!).

Be forewarned, the "Logos 2 Catholic" program I got was on disk and ran on Windows XP, so it was a little tricky getting it installed on the newer computers to get the license code, but it was worth the effort!

Yep, that was my issue - there was no code with the box itself so I had to go through the install process, then copy the code and send it to them. So, unfortunately, if you get Logos 2.0 Catholic, you will have to find a way of installing it in order to get the code to give to Faithlife to apply to your account.

I didn't know that, thanks, and I apologise for giving bad information. I guess the codes that I emailled to Logos must have all been Libronix/Logos3.
