BUG? Context Menu Resource List for References
I thought to check that my Prioritised resources were appearing on the Context menu for bible References, but the results were quite unexpected (see Table below).
To reproduce:
- Prioritize resources in Library as per Table (I have some Greek and Hebrew lexicons between NET and LGNTI)
- right click a word in ESV at Gen 4:3, select Reference, and note the 5 resources in bottom left
- right click a word in ESV at Matt 25:2, select Reference, and note the 5 resources in bottom left
- right click a word in LHI at Gen 4:3, select Reference, and note the 5 resources in bottom left
- right click a word in LGNTI at Matt 25:2, select Reference, and note the 5 resources in bottom left
Why are my Prioritised resources matched only with the Greek bible LGNTI?
Why is the NET ignored by all but LGNTI?
Why do Concise Bible Commentary and Harmony of the Synoptic Gospels appear in the results?
Prioritized |
ESV Gen 4:3 |
ESV Matt 25:2 |
LHI Gen 4:3 |
LGNTI Matt 25:2 |
ESV | ESV | ESV | ESV | ESV |
NET | TNIV | OpenText Clauses | LHI | NET |
LGNTI | Concise Bible Commentary | Harmony of Syn Gospels | AFAT | LGNTI |
LHI | AMP | TNIV | AFPMA | NA27Int |
NA27Int | ASV | Concise Bible Commentary | BHSMorph | OpenText Clauses |
AFAT |
Further tests show that:-
TNIV results for Matt 25:2 match LGNTI above.
TNIV results for Gen 4:3 are ESV, NET, TNIV, Concise Bible Commentary, AMP.
NA27Int results match LGNTI above.
BHSMorph results match LHI above.
If I Prioritize Newberry Interlinear after AFAT, then results are "as expected" i.e. it appears before OpenText Clauses in the ESV NT results and replaces OpenText Clauses in the LGNTI results.
==============
If it helps I attached a log where the activity starts about 13 Sept 21:50. I added BBC (29.1.24) to the list between NET and LGNTI and performed the above tests twice before removing BBC and repeating the tests with above results.

Dave,
I can't replicate this. I placed the same 5 bibles at the top of my preferred resources and I get all the correct hits in the order in which I have prioritised them.

Dave, I removed every other resource from my prioritised list:
Mt 25:2
LGNTI: ESV; NET; LGNTI; NA27int; Lexham Sentence Diagrams (?)
ESV: ESV; NET; LGNTI; NA27int; Lexham High Definition New Testament (?)
NRSV: ESV; NET; LGNTI; NA27int; NRSV
NJB: ESV; NET; LGNTI; NA27int; NJB
Gen 4 3
LHI: ESV; NET; LHI; AFAT: AYBC Genesis
ESV: ESV; NET; LHI; AFAT: Ancient Christian Commentary Genesis
NRSV: ESV; NET; LHI; AFAT: NRSV
NJB: ESV; NET; LHI; AFAT: NJB
I wonder what the logice is for finding resources not on the priority list?

deleted as this somehow duplicated and saved a partially incomplete post

Dav , I tried setup as above and get following results..

ESV ESV ESV ESV ESV NET NET NET NET NET LGNTI LHI LGNTI LHI LGNTI LHI AFAT NA27Int AFAT NA27Int NA27Int TNIV LHDNT(ESV) Five Books of Moses
LSGofGNT(Syntax Graphs)AFAT TNIV matches my ESV results for Gen 4:3. However for Matt 25:2 it differs in that the last resources shows up as the Harmony of Synoptic Gospels.
NA27Int matches my LGNTI also...bit stange though that since NA27Int is the base resource that it shows up as a destination option. I would expect it to in this instance to drope out, the number 5 item to become number 4 and a new number 5 to appear.
BHSMorph match my LHI results also....
JNT (Jewish New Testament) matches my TNIV results. Tanakh matches my LHI results
I tried Luther 1912 bible and found that though the type is bible it is not indexed by refernce but will do a separte post on that issue.
When I slot in Newberry after AFTA also get expected behaviours.
Taking away NA27 and AFAT from fourth and fifth priority positions (newberry also left out) I get

Strange, but consistent with your Prioritised resources. You wouldn't get that mix in v3 as the bible data type listed your bibles before any commentaries.
I'm waiting for a Logos response but I'm prepared to scrap my list and Prioritise afresh.

I thought to check that my Prioritised resources were appearing on the Context menu for bible References, but the results were quite unexpected
I reset my list by deleting every resource and restocked it as shown below:
Then I repeated the above test for resources on Reference. All results were as expected for OT/NT.
Then I performed the above test for resources on Lemma. All results were as expected for Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek.
Then I performed the above test for resources on Strong's. All results were as expected for Hebrew and Greek.
It doesn't let you off the hook, though. If a little tinkering produces unexpected results we need to know why!

I think no tinkering is going to produce unexpected results... and advanced view button for those who care about correcting those unexpected results is required so that we can see what is happening on the datatype level. The single list is messy enough as it is, but then when we start adding advanced priority options and end up with the same resourse in the list mutiple times to handle multiple scenarios... I'm thinking of permissions in windows systems where there is an administrative tool to see the actual result of all the different permissions applied to a user due to various group policies and group memberships that might affect that individual user account. A tool that does something similar for a datatype is required in L4.
Agreed this does not let Logos off the hook... George can you please keep looking at this issue (along with everything else on you plate and I will try things again at my end. TIA
