Visual Copy "beach ball" in mac Logos 6 but it does not freeze in Parallels Windows Logos 6

I have been experiencing "beachballs" in mac Logos 6 when doing Visual copy. this especially happens if I edit the text that is to be used. For example I may want just part of the verse instead of the whole verse so I delete the words that I do not want. Suddenly the program begins beech balling and it may stop or it may not.

I have parallels and windows installed and I can start that program do the exact same thing in Logos 6 for Windows and never have a problem. I can even do it while the Mac Logos 6 is till beach balling.

Any ideas?

You will need to provide more info. What specific version of the engine? What version of OS X? Can you provide logs? You will want to enable logging, recreate the issue, then use the "sample" method. (See my signature line for instructions).

I have the EXACT same issue, and am so glad to hear someone else now has this issue - not that I am happy anyone is having problems, just glad I'm not alone. Bob Pritchett has a programer researching this, and they have samples and logs galore.

I do not have the programmers info at the moment...but I plant to follow up with him tomorrow. I will make sure he knows there are now two of us, and will send he and Bob this thread. As Alabama has said, you may want to do logs and samples here, just in case they want to see another instance of the same issue.

But we do have the same issue. Mine never messes up (or very rarely) unless I edit the text. Im usually good for one or two slide edits after a Force Quit before it Logos hangs again. This is frustrating because I am teaching through Amos now, and much of the book is in poetic format, which means that there is a lot of text editing to do in order to get rid of all the extra spacing that, subsequently, makes the font size smaller. I have suggested that they simply create the slides in VC in prose format and then let those who wish add spacing. This seems much more logical to me, esp since the spacing almost never looks good on a slide.

I, also, NEVER have the issue on our Windows machine, but have it on ALL my Mac machines. I have even installed new instances of Logos on my Macs (which is a MAJOR event since I have 10,000 resources and 100s of gigs of data) to see if the issue persists, and it does. I've had the issue for over a year now, and it is VERY FRUSTRATING to me!

I think you have noted the frustration that I have..It does not really seem to be machine specific nor is it consistent. Things can be going along fine and then suddenly I am stuck. Some things in common are: up to date El Capitan, Up to date Logos 6, up to date Keynote (I am copying and pasting the finished product into Keynote)

Here is another sample...It is still beach balling after 5 minutes. The is SO very frustrating but I still love Logos in so many ways. it stopped beach balling while I am typing.

I have messaged Bob about your issue. From experience, I am confident that he will respond or will have someone reach out to us on this issue. Maybe now that there are two people with the same issue, we can get some traction towards a resolution.

This seems to be an issue that is related to Mac users alone, but beyond that I cannot determine what the common link it. I’m sure there are other people that have the same issue, but likely haven’t discovered it yet, and won’t unless they actually edit text after they create a VC slide.

I am incredibly sorry this is still an issue for our mac users. We are aware of the issue and are looking into possible solutions. The issue currently seems to be in how our network architecture handles network changes. This has made it a very challenging issue for us to address.

Long story short:

When your computer switches networks or goes offline restart Logos. This includes moving the laptop to a new location, switching from wired to wireless, and possibly putting the computer to sleep and waking it up.

Long story:

Logos is set to “give up” on network calls after five minutes when nothing happens.
When you close a panel we cancel the work that panel was doing and wait for it to finish before allowing the program to continue.
When the network topology changes the cancellation is not handled properly and instead the application must wait the full five minutes for the connections to timeout before resuming.

If you are connected to one network and then connect to another network (or go offline) the Visual Copy panel can hang the app when you close it. We are looking into what we can do to avoid this situation because we are well aware that it is a pain point for Mac users.

I tried to reproduce based on Myke's thread (link below). I did not go to sleep or change networks, but was able to reproduce and provide logs. I don't know if that issue is related to the OP in this thread or not.

I am not sure this is the primary issue. This may be the reason we cannot recover from the hang up, but I dont see this as the hang up reason to begin with. Maybe you are missing the original issue at hand, and are only seeing the peripheral issue. The main issue is that VC should not hang when you edit text on the slide. None of us are changing networks or going off line or moving from wired to wireless, etc. And this happens in less than 5 minutes - in fact, after only one successful VC slide production.

So the time out issue can be dealt with and wouldn't be much of a deal if VC didn't hang that often to begin with. I mean, if it never hangs from text editing, then the recovery after the hang becomes a mute point. Correct?
