Is anyone besides me totally disgusted with an article singing the praises of Hillary Clinton as a person of faith on the Logos Home page? Political pandering gone wild! Logos promotes a candidate that endorses the killing of unborn babies for any and every reason is something I cannot support.

Logos promotes a candidate

For clarification: Logos is not promoting anyone. As Lynden mentioned, the article comes from a news source. You can customize those preferences.

Here, as in many other instances, Logos is the neutral (non-filtering) channel of distribution. They have a customer base covering a wide range of Christian beliefs, and have chosen to offer content from a similar range of third-party providers.

So what you see on your Logos home page is not selected or filtered by Logos; they are not promoting anything. It is unfiltered, from one or more of the content providers, who are the ones doing the promoting. When we disagree with a position asserted by one of those providers, we can (as Lynden has outlined) remove that provider from our own Logos home page.

Ultimately, it is up to us to be the filters for ourselves (and our households, as relevant), and we should not expect that anyone else is going to do that task for us and according to our preferences.

That's the reason why I've deactivated Faithlife News entirely from my Logos Home screen. When I want to read news, I do that elsewhere, and when I open Logos, I don't want to read news. Always too much anger stirring up when I start reading...

Politics is a very ugly business. I've made it a habit, in my own country (not USA), not ever to vote for a major candidate. The whole bunch of them is compromised in one way or the other in endorsing abortion, and if not abortion, then it's stem cell research or some other sort of disguised abortion. I usually pick a candidate who doesn't stand a chance, the more Chistian the better. My vote is lost, but my conscience is clear...

If you are concerned about the lives of unborn babies (like I am) be sure to nix Gospel Herald from your news feed or cancel the news feed all together.

I never really understood why Faithlife wanted to put a newsfeed (other than Faithlife news) on the Logos homepage. I'm sure it sounded like a nifty idea in product development meetings, but it is - at best - quite peripheral to the central purpose of the software. It also inevitably results in questions like this one about why a particular story is included, whether it's appropriate, and whether or not Faithlife is implicitly endorsing a particular editorial point of view by including it in the feeds. It seems to me to be creating unnecessary customer complaints without materially improving the value of the program as a study tool.

You can turn off the entire news feed by clicking on the gear sprocket and uncheck "Faithlife News".

That is rather disgusting!! I didn't see it...glad I didn't. While I am NOT contrasting her with Trump in any way, since Trump has his own set of issues to be contended with, the idea that the NBC would prop up Hillary as a candidate of faith tells us just how far left the church has moved in the last few decades, and how close we actually are to the end of time. I think our Lord referred to these circumstances as "birth pangs." The idea that any church would give a platform to ANY candidate (Republican Democrat, Libertarian, Independent, etc) that does not strongly and clearly stand for the sanctify of life is very distressing on one side of the coin, yet to be expected, from what we know about the watering down of the gospel for the approaching end times, on the other side of the coin.

Im with the one who suggested turning FL news off altogether, so as not to risk getting my blood boiling when Im trying to begin Bible study! LOL.

But this does beg the question...since these channel options are preselected by Faithlife, why would they even provide liberal news outlets like the GH and the CP to begin with? Why not have just a few, solid, conservative options? I think that would be the wise, Christ-honoring thing to do.

Actually it is the response I find rather disgusting ... everyone should recognize that Logos offers resources and links to view other than one's own. So why not simply (a) not read the article - just like you don't read something of no interest (b) turn off the news feed or news source depending upon your personal choice and (c) quietly move on.

I am glad to share with all you that I contacted Logos via email about my concerns at the same time I posted on this forum. I have received several encouraging emails from Logos. One explained how the Faithlife News is an automated process that has no one reviewing the articles. I was also informed that a former employee set the whole system up and that Logos is reviewing the process and will be making positive changes in the future. I am elated that Logos listens and cares about the feedback they receive from those who use their products.

I simply use both Logos and Verbum to be sure I have the right information on how Logos works. I have, however, previously offered Faithlife a list of several newsites they might add to have a more balanced Protestant view.

I always find it interesting when the Christians aren't too happy with the Divine governmental selections .... of course us US'ers won't know His new selection until early November. My fundementalist sister was none too happy with the previous selection; I reminded her of the Selector.

Thanks MJ for making the suggestions to Faithlife and I agree with your earlier observation about the response. In these latter days especially its healthy to consider reading material from wide range of sources and especially authors with balance - this goes for theological and biblical studies as well as the news from the media. People certainly have the freedom for righteous anger' in many areas of life - but isn't it misplaced at a news feed? Few issues in life are so easily resolved as this one. Keep well Paul

Having news feed from official denominational sites in one handy place would be quite convenient for me. Since they are optional (make it easier to configure) those not interested can turn the feature off, or unsubscribe form them.

When setting up the software for the first time, the user can be given to option to configure which feeds show if any at all.

Lee - What has being Christian really to do with the issue? You disagree with a newsfeed for your own reasons and the solution is for you to take action to switch off your own access to it. The solution is in your own hands.

As to changing what should come along the Faithlife news feed - there may be Christians who disagree and wish to receive the newsfeed undisturbed. It is not sinful for them to wish to know something Clinton might be saying. People who disagree with Clinton may also like to keep abreast of her speeches for their own reasons. A spread of ideas, even ones we disagree with, is part of the fabric of freedom. And what of Faithlife which sells many types of books which people of different faiths may read and also access the newsfeed. People of those faiths also need to be considered before anyone interferes with what comes along the newsfeed. Think for a moment - why should Faithlife newsfeed be confined to what is Christian?

The debate about the scope of material that comes through the newsfeed is healthy and means people are thinking about how they may be impacted by what comes into their homes and offices via their electronic gear. These days its easy for us as committed Christians to get annoyed by politicians and particular news items, but hopefully when we actually meet those with whom we disagree, we will hear them and try to win them over with gentleness and patience. We agree on this ... however, let me give you a bit of context:

my niece and my aunt carried on the name of Anne Marbury (Hutchinson) who was kicked out of Boston Colony for preaching the losing theology (Antinomian Controversy). Obviously we have not forgotten the injustice
I am a direct descendant of Rebecca Nourse - executed as a witch by the Salem Colony. Again obviously we have not forgotten the injustice.
A high school friend (and table tennis partner) was murdered together with his family for slander still promoted against his parents some 23 years after our community found it to be slander in court.
I can list several cases of governmental mistreatment or individual prejudice against Native Americans that family members were party to and outraged by ... and was personally harassed by police in college for dating a person whose skin didn't match mine.

Therefore I feel very strongly about certain American values:

free press
equal standing under the law
government independent of religion
freedom of religion

So yes, I get annoyed when people try to censor what I can read, try to judge others without actually knowing the people and talking to them about their actual views (e.g. it is possible to be strongly pro-life without believing that secular law is the best way to achieve moral behavior), hide behind their personal religious beliefs when those beliefs lack historical and cultural depth (e.g. being pro-life while ignoring the related issues of euthanasia, death penalty and just war) ... I am personally conservative in a very rural sense but that conservatism is built on a very strong base of freedoms and responsibilities.

I assume that you recognized the rhetorical device being used ... one used frequently to evoke the response "of course not" as a way to point out similarity and hence, self recognition.

Is Faithlife News still functioning correctly? I've noticed the RSS feed hasn't been updating for me.

It seems to have gone down shortly after the Hillary post made it to the Logos Desktop home page keeping it "stuck" there until the Faithlife News feed refreshes.

Just wondering if this feature is even sticking around or getting pulled completely.

Feeds come and go on the Home page. They aren't advertised features of Logos. A broken feed isn't a bug in Logos, or a loss of a paid-for function.

Besides, I don't think removing a function that is half-baked is a bad move. They did it with handouts. If they don't have the manpower to support it, removing it is better than leaving it broken.

I can see how some would miss it, though.

I'm not asking you to do our work for us. We have bug triaging processing in place. I'm inviting you to show us we have our priorities wrong. From my perspective this is a low-priority bug compared to many other issues, many of which you've asked us to address. If you want to influence our perception of its importance, you have that opportunity via UserVoice.

It was bad user experience, and we don't know when we'll be able to address it. Leaving the broken experience would have been a mistake. I've personally spent multiple hours on this issue, and I know several other people have as well. I'd guess combined we've spend ~10 hours of company time on this. Leaving it up would have led to more time spent addressing questions regarding why this article or that article is showing on the homepage, why it hasn't updated in days, etc. Pulling it, and doing so quickly, meant allow us to focus on more important issues. The decision was an easy one.

I'm sorry I didn't do a better job of communicating all of the reasons more clearly up front.

I remember when I was new to Logos I asked a simple questions concerning exporting books and you replied with a very condescending answering as if i was trying to do something illegal. Based on the amount of posts you have on your post count you probably think you are part owner of Logos by now.

It's an interesting concept I've enjoyed, but if maintaining it is taking more focus away from other priorities at Faithlife, then I would be OK if it were sunset. While I like the idea of one-shop Christian news, I already subscribe to Christian news feeds through other sources like an RSS reader, and I don't see how Faithlife News is bringing people into the Faithlife ecosystem, improving their Bible study, and from a business standpoint, how its improving Faithlife's bottom line.

If it's something you can continue running with and not involve a ton of effort into it, great, as it is "nice". If it becomes too much to handle, I'll be OK if it's gone.

One last observation, and I am not suggesting anything about anyone in any way, or FL or politics or anything at all--this is pure science with equal respect for one and all--but when I search the forums for "donkey," guess what the first hit is? (Note this occurred long before my post) Having to do with some represented party perhaps. Or, why? Doesn't matter. Just an amusing observation. All done.
