What is the best "string" to use to place all of my Calvin 500 books in a collection for searching?
Sorry I know of nothing to type to auto populate the collection. So throw on your favorite music, name the collection, and manually drag each resource into the collection. I have done this for numerous collections and you will be done faster than you think.
I have 2 Calvin collections: one is 'Calvin primary' for Calvin's own writings and the other is 'Calvin' which includes secondary literature. I don't know much about making collections and very simply typed in Calvin in the the start with all resources matching box. I had to make a few 'minuses' but I didn't miss anything that I'm aware of.
Later I found this rule
Subject:Calvin, Author:"Calvin, John", Title:Calvinism
but it doesn't catch all of my Calvin resources.

Adding an eBook to a collection has two options: manually drag to include OR manually tag:
Manually added tag to an eBook with significant John Calvin content followed by modifying collection rule:

Another refinement possibility is Title so filtered Library:

that found one "Calvin" resource without John Calvin content. To exclude a resource from a collection, can drag to "Minus these resources" OR refine collection rule:

To refine author, filtered Library by

then sorted by Author
