Cannot Delete Personal Book from Library

System: Logos 6.14 SR-3; Windows 8.1

Symptom: I created a Personal book using Tools>>Personal books.  The docx file used to create the Logos book version had hidden text/hyper links that were not visible when reference docx file was open in MS word; however, the links showed up in the Logos Personal Book version.  I was able to subsequently delete the book from the itemization in the  Personal book utility listing using the "right mouse button" and selecting 'delete'; however the book still appears in the library indexing of my entire library.  The book does NOT appear in the Personal book listing using the Tools>>utilities menu item.

It would seem to me that the Personal book entries that are created  by the user using, the Tools utility should be 100% correlated to the library indexing; if I delete the book using the utility, Logos should delete the book out of my library.

Bottom line:: how do I delete the unwanted, and unreferenced personal books from my library index??  Perhaps it might be beneficial to put the ability to select a given book in the library window, and "right mouse button" delete it from the library, at least if the book is a personal book generated by the author.

Chip, my understanding is you need to use the Hide feature and then run the command 'rebuild personal index'

see following recent discussion for more details.

Thank you for your response.  The link suggestion reads in part:  "Start by opening the Personal book version, and then click the info button in the top corner.  At the bottom you can find the file name."  After opening the personal book from the library index and going into the info tab, I cannot find any field that specifies the file name.  the closest I get is "support info" field, and I cannot delete anything from this.  I have not been able to identify the "Hide feature" that is also suggested.

Also, there appears to be related errors that are occurring, even when I simply try to "rebuild" an existing book.  With ALL panels closed except the personal book utility, I get the following errors:

    [Info] Starting build for PBB:bd48e5a76d9f469aa8412f4474b778c5
[Error] Error while building book: Could not remove existing resource. Please close all other open panels and try again.
[Error] Exception: LDLS4.Panels.PersonalBookBuilderPanel.PersonalBookBuilderException: Could not remove existing resource. Please close all other open panels and try again.

The "hidden book" process happens under "preferences." There is a list of any "hidden" books. You add books to the list by dragging the title from the library to the list, then restart the app. Have you done this?

thank you Alabama24.  I was able to find the "hide resource" function using the following steps: 1. Select one or more resources, 2. Hold down the Opt key (Mac) or the Ctrl key (Windows) and right-click on part of the selected area, and 3. Choose Hide this resource from the menu to move the selected resource(s) to the Hidden Resources section in the Program Settings panel.  This does hide the library listing, but the item is still in my system.

How do I fully DELETE the unwanted entries from my library?  The unwanted books have embedded/active MS word script commands in them and I do not want to risk interference with normal Logos operations.  What is the "command prompt" syntax that when entered into the command window forces a "re-indexing" of my entire library?  I assume a re-indexing after I have deleted the personal book within the Personal book utility will cause the library entry to be removed.  Can you (or anyone else) confirm this to be the case??

If you hide the book, this does not only "hide the library listing" but actually deletes the Logos book file (ending in .logos4) from your system.

The PB item then is still in Tools/Personal Books, but you can easily delete it from there (I think you already did). The index information is still in dthe index, but if you perform "rebuild personal index" it will be delted from there, too.

Logos books are compiled by the PB Tool. MS Word script commands, macros or whatever content may be embedded in the Word file will not become part of the Logos resource and can't interfere with the Logos program. You may delete those Word files outside of Logos - the Word file is only accessed during compilation of the PB but totally independent from it in any other way (thus no way to delete the docx-file from inside Logos)

I'm really surprised this issue is still around.  It's been an issue since PBs were re-programmed from Libby (complete with the nifty non-transferability of the oldies, and no utility).

Layouts were the same. I guess it took 7 years to figure out how to not keep a gazillion of the them. Then, there's still the library resource tagging/remaming, where they re-sort after each change. I'm still awaiting an ability to manage the scroll-markers. Maybe Logos10. Then, there's resource linking, where it has trouble keeping verses matched up. I used to see how many verses off it could be. But with L7 slowing to a crawl, I'm reducing my linking (and everything else).

I think Logos should have a FixIt subscription. $8 a month to fix all their prior designs. I'd sign up for that!

Thank you NB.mick for the insights.  I have (hopefully) rid my library from the extraneous (unwanted) PBs and assume (based on your comments) that they are purged from my system.  I find L6 to be a very good tool generally, but this experience in managing the PB wrt the library indexing leaves me with the impression that some small improvements in resource management  (library and PB, etc) might be warranted to foster an improved user experience.  Logos is still the best tool on the market in my opinion...

I recently had this frustration and realized I couldn't delete a PB, because it was open in a tab! Once I closed the tab, I right-clicked the title in the PB tool, chose delete, and it was gone.

I use Verbum with an 8-Core Mac Pro (2013) and a MacBook Pro (2017)

Yes you can delete Personal Books, even the ones that you have previously uploaded to Logos. Change the information and "Body File" with a blank word docx with just a bit of text in Times New Roman font, then rebuild it. Close and reopen Logos. You should now be able to delete it. You may or nay not have to re-upload the blank "Body File" you used to re-build.
    Cheers!
