Logos 8 Wishlist

What's on your Logos 8 wishlist? It could be fixing an annoying bug, refining a feature you rely on every day, or creating a brand new feature that would address a problem you encounter on a regular basis (but currently have to turn to something outside of Logos to solve).

To think of it another way, what problems would you like to see us solve? They could be problems we're already solving, but need to solve better. Or they could be problems we're currently not solving at all.

What are the most important things we should address to make Logos a better tool for you?

I would love to see:

Improvements to sentence diagramming tool (or new tools?) to make arcing/bracketing easier
A much more open Atlas - choosing our own layers, ability to save view, add labels/arrows/symbols etc - with image export options, of course.
Open any image in a zoomable window/pane on clicking.
Support for manuscript images with tagged text

On the mobile side of things, Android users still lack the ability to choose which lines get displayed/hidden on interlinear resources. Instead, ALL available lines show, making those resources practically unusable on phones with small screens. Would LOVE for that to be fixed.

EDIT: If I can add just one more thing, I would like to see Faithlife finish adding Factbook support to ALL Bible dictionaries and encyclopedias. The New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge is one example of a resource that is not yet supported, but there are numerous others as well.

... clearer context menus (with less clutter) ... I know FL is very excited by these new data sets ... I would like to hide them

... better library management (and management of Tags ... can I see all my tags, search my tags, add a definition for my tags, consolidate my tags, not just typing a few letters and hoping that I remember the correct tag!)

... panels that can be pre-assigned resource types ... I want to say that bibles will open here and dictionaries over there ...

... info window i=with intelligence .. if I click on a word, looking for a definition, I would expect the info window to notice that some like an article that simply says 'see xxx' is not helpful ... either follow the link or choose the next resource ... anything less than say 5 words should be ignored as a definition.

... speed (!) ... not smoke and mirrors ... getting the app open ... but then having to wait for the library to sort itself out before you can search etc.

... back to tagging ... the ability to switch off library refresh whilst editing tags ... for speed reasons and for preventing resources from diappering with half formed tags etc.

... fewer 'tools' and more development into the basics like above. It is getting frustrating to see so much put into 'web features' and into 'assistants' when the core program has seen such little development.

Personal Book availability on the Web App. (Might be less technically daunting than mobile devices, and we're already able to sync many of them to servers, anyway.)
Personal Book tool interface that looks/behaves more like the Library window. (An FL staffer hinted at this a while back, before the mass personnel changes.)
Personal Book Author box that predictively pre-populates based on authors already in library. (Would keep author names consistent.)

1. +1 on a Searching interface! I cant believe how non-user friendly it is for such a basic feature. Something like Mac’s advanced searching layout seems like it would work well.

2. Also, still would like to be able to access external notes in a guide. I use Evernote, and there are lots of other apps that tie in via their API, so it seems like it would be possible. But not sure about other ones like OneNote.

3. Personal books on mobile. Yes, I am aware of Bob’s thesis, but not having it on mobile is almost like not having the feature at all these days. And for those of us working in other languages, it is a NECESSITY to be able to add in our own resources as there will never be a day Logos will make sufficient materials available in other languages.

Also I know this can be time consuming but there are lots of older resources that could really use updating. The one that comes to mind is the MacArthur NT Commentaries. Kyle already mentioned in a previous post that these were slated for an update but I'm sure there are many more that can use a rescanning and go through the newer process Kyle told us about that started a "few?" years ago. It can be frustrating to read a resource, see obvious errors, and then go find the print version to get the right text. Sometimes I wonder if what I'm reading I can trust fully or if there are words/sentences missing.

SIMPLE SEEMLESS SEARCHES

I only know English. I simply will not learn the clumsy search method U now employ, the difficulty of learning I see akin to acquiring a 2nd language. I now would have no confidence in my results, as I would always think, to use one example, that if I could search as well as KS4J, I would find what I really need. So, I do not bother.

I see Logos for everybody as critical. U, as a company, will sell more ''units'' if U make getting in + getting along easier.

U beta the newest possibilities; beta the new simplicities as a separate entity. This focus SB the equivalent of the One Minute Manager attitude applied to Logos. Or, make Logos work like Tom Schreiner puts together his books: the English is simple + to the point because the subject matter covered is complex.

Phil, please take away from windows developers mouse and let them use touch screen only for few hours/days. Let them do Bible study, highlighting and etc. Then they would instantly know how Logos compatibility is limited to touch screen. Lets face reality, touch screen is a high demand among windows users and it is still on the rise.

Also, Bible Reading Plan commend. Currently I have to go to home page to continue Bible reading plan.

Yeah, I am definitely for improving touch performance, but let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. I absolutely expect to have full mouse functionality on my desktop. That is where I do the majority of my research, and touch on four large monitors would be impractical at best.

Logos should make their own official collections

Make collections for each of the Logos Base Packages, so we can distinguish what came from a particular base package. This is important to me as a teacher, so I can work with only what the students are expected to have in their Logos Library. These collections are available for Logos 4-6 in a Faithlife group, but the collections have not been made for Logos 7.

Complete linking the German Bible Society's Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia to the Hebrew-Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament AND the Dictionary of Classical Hebrew AS WELL AS to its own Stuttgarter Elektronishe Studienbibel parsing system. (Currently the links work only for prefixes, e.g., inseparable prepositions). I do not think it sufficient for Faithlife simply to refer customers to the Lexham Hebrew Bible because it is important to have full functionality for the Hebrew Bible with an apparatus criticus.

Unlink resource display settings from a resource level and attch it to an instance level, i.e. to the panel.

e.g. I am working with a bible, study bible and commentary in a single panel with multiple resources. At another time, I open that bible, it also seems to open the other two resources, even though I am in a different session, and a different layout, and the panel is too small to accommodate three resources.

e.g I have different zoom levels for certain resources in a layout dependent on whether they're the main object of study.

e.g. In one workflow/layout I want the interlinears, visual filters et. al; in another I simply want the bible.

Shortcuts to layouts should link automatically to the latest version of that layout, and follow even if the layout is renamed. Currently, the short cuts link to a specific instance of a layout.

Improvements for notes. I'm glad that things are already worked on for this. Please include support for custom sort inside a notebook that can be saved. Also, think about ways to make it easier to structure an extensive topic that I am working on using notes (which is not a sermon or similar). Please, also provide a way to import notes!
Personal Books on mobile and web (I'm happy for this to be a paid upgrade through an in-app purchase or similar)
Filters/sort for library screen on mobile (for example to easily see my Bibles only without having to remember a command to type)

I have another one: Ability to turn interlinear on and off on the mobile app. Accordance has a feature called "Dynamic Interlinear," and you can turn it on and off. You can even choose what you want the interlinear to display like we do in the Logos desktop app.

For Logos to expand its use beyond the Pastor, scholar, improve the Faithlife Assistannt. I am thinking with the Artificial Intelligence of Siri. (This is a work for many years) With the extensive tagging that is in Logos, I would like to speak and have the software understand that I want to know:
Who is the strongest man in the Bible?
Who is the oldest man that ever lived?
Peter walked on water. (List the passages where it is found in order of relevance)
"Five loaves and two fishes" The software should automatically list the passage.

Library Drop-down Window

Either let the user size the window and have Logos remember it -OR- add a preference setting for the drop-down size to be maximized.

Window Size and Scrolling of Scripture Passages When Hovering over LInks in Resources

When a scripture passage pop-up window is displayed as a result of the user hovering the cursor over a passage link in a resource, either make the window size large enough to display the entire passage -OR- make the window scrollable. There are many, many, many times that there is plenty of room on the screen to make the pop-up window large enough to display the entire passage, but the pop-up window size displayed is too small to do that, requiring the user to then click on the passage link which transfers control to a Bible resource (often in a different pane), then requiring the user to transfer control back to the main resource in order to resume reading/studying that resource. Such an unnecessary waste of time.

Late to the party and totally random...

I'd like to see a minor UI refresh, along the top to freshen it up a bit. I'd still love to see the Tool menu divided as it's getting large. And of course the Toolbar: Multiple bars that can be turned on and off (depending on device), changing the spacing, custom icons, dividers, etc. I should have it look the way I want it to look on my PC, my Tablet, or on the Web App.

More user settings for display. Color schemes for tool windows vs resource windows.

I wouldn't mind a refresh on Logos.com PDPs. I'm a bit jealous of all the whitespace on Verbum.com.

Fix reading plans, esp TOC breaks, and At Your Own Pace. Phil's comments here and here.

Dynamic linking in resources. When resources are created, store metadata that can be used to link to reference works. Some of those links can be resolved when compiling the book, other can be resolved on the users system as the resource is drawn, if the linked resource has become available and is installed. You're already doing some of the work already, I believe. This way Faithlife only has to touch the resource once for links, no need to do periodic updates. This was discussed a few years ago but I can't find the link.

Better handling of images/media in resources. Better quality images when available. Zooming, Copying, Printing.

Maps/Atlas. See Accordance! Layers. Multiple Layers. Detailed control over what is shown/hidden. Place names I can click on for more information. This has been talked about all over the place. See Accordance for how to do this. There's may not be as pretty and the UI lousy, but they have the features right and that is the most important part.

Mobile Offline. Seriously! Simple word studies, Passage guides or a parallel resources option so I can switch through commentaries on a given reference, or dictionaries for a given headword, etc. Simple Text Comparison. Simple search within resource, eg Show me all verses that contain the word xxx. Maybe topical lookup. These are features I use or would use all the time (mostly done in Accordance app at the moment!)

Keep working on Faithlife Assistant. More inline responses because often want just a quick answer and because inline responses will make it more portable to bring to the Web App & Mobile. Would love to hear a better (and distinctive) speech engine.

Library browser. Faceted browser. Include collections for convenience and for organization. Let resources that contain multiple titles have those titles listed in the library and be filterable by those titles--It's a pain to find books that are contained in huge collections. At least on the web app it might be interesting to flip a switch and browse the entire Faithlife catalog or at least it might make both product browsers a little better.

Allow searches to search the entire Faithlife catalog. Sell me some book!

Touch UI. There was a time when I thought this would have been a game changer. If done excessively well, I thought it would cause people to throw away there iPads and Android tablets and rob every Surface Pro for the store shelves. I don't know if that momentum is there any more and doubt to see Faithlife take Touch to the level needed, but there are enough of us I think to warrant some improvements in this area. Maybe a time to do a general review of your UI Controls/Widgets and improve the experience for touch users and improve accessibility as there are problems with screen readers & onscreen keyboard. I was going to say something about making controls more consistent across the application but it looks like this has improved a great deal now that I take a look. There are still inconsistencies like the filter boxes sometimes having a round progress bar, sometimes a dotted line progress bar, and sometimes just fading out and back. Maybe lumping all these together will make it a more profitable review.

Search. I think it would be cool if there were a little white board and a toolbar of function and operator widgets. Grab a function like Sense, and drop it on the white board. The white board organizes what's dropped on it. NO Freehand. Dropping the widgets on the whiteboard gives the user an object with a series of properties that can be edited. For sense, there is a list of all senses that can be filtered to find the appropriate one. Some widgets might have special functions that make it easier to make modifications to that term/widget. For sense there might be an up arrow button that selects the parent sense of the currently selected sense and an ellipsis button that brings up a list of child senses for review or selection. Every widget can show a preview of the results of that search term in isolation.

Next, we can click on an operator and combine search terms together into an expression. Again the operator widget will allow a preview to be seen of the two terms combined by the operator. Make it easy to change operators so users are encouraged to experiment with operators to see the difference in the results.

To control complexity, allow selecting of an expression so that all terms/subterms are grouped together, hidden in a black box, and given a name. That will simplify the expression for viewing, and possibly allow a means of sharing these black box search snippets(???).

Searching is still complex. But this aides with syntax, organization, and allow partial evaluations to see where the search is working and where it isn't.

Contextual pop-up customization of Right and Left Hand sides: similar to Guides that allows section order to be rearranged as desired so dreaming of "My Contextual Right" and "My Contextual Left" guides with templates that could be edited. Guide metaphor has sections that appear when appropriate. Currently contextual pop-up has applicable sections shown in alphabetical order all the time.
My Visual Filter guide so could rearrange order of Menu Sections. Also would appreciate option for default check OR not for each section: e.g. typically not use Passage List so prefer unchecked and collapsed.
Search builder that highlights unrecognized term(s): e.g. missing parenthesis. Ideally with option to enable OR disable automatic completion.
Search term browser with range of valid values. Many resources have their own data type, which can be challenging to build search for various section(s). Another example is labels and sections having many values. At times would like a Concordance capability for search values that shows how many for a particular value, ideally with option to enable OR disable count as desired.
Library priorization assistant so can enter a data value that shows resources with that value in priority order.
Library option to resize column for prioritisation so can read more of the title/series.
Library prioritization option to collapse/expand advanced priorities as desired. Currently advanced always shows many lines.
Resource information to show Subject Metadata plus some attributes (e.g. Interlinear) that are currently not shown => [request] Bradley: Please expose the 'traits' column in collections
User note field for Resources that is visible in Information, which could have comments about title modifications, plagiarism warnings, ...
Some Color Theme customization => Low light or night modes? => User Voice Suggestion ? Add Themes to personalize colors/colours ?
Morph Query that can be used offline.
Quick way to turn off Visual Filters when opening a Bible resource (possibly open resource with key to disable visual filters). If Visual Filters is checked, then application automatically searches and applies them so trying to show Visual Filter menu can wait on searches being done.

FYI: a quick way to improve performance is avoiding unneeded effort. For example, at times want to see everything that Contextual menu can show. At other times only desire useful subset. For example, personally not use Literary Typing, Genre tagging, Send to Proclaim, Share, .. so would appreciate Guide like option to not show them (or place more useful sections above them). When new resources are downloaded onto the desktop machine, the mobile device tickboxes should be available at the same time (assuming that they compatible). Currently, for some reason, it is not possible to put a new resource onto a device from the desktop. My workflow is to preview and tag new resources as they come in ... and to decide if I would like them to be accessible via mobile.

During Irma if Logos had been more dependent upon the cloud i would not have been able to use it to prepare a sermon.

I don't know what computer you have, but when I notice my computer running slow with Logos I know its time to upgrade it.

Even with (feels like) a million collections my current computer is pretty fast.

What are the most important things we should address to make Logos a better tool for you?

I'm tired of pitching it and fighting for my view, but my first priority has always been a divorce of "layout" from "project." As a user is working across devices and platforms, he/she may have good reasons to use a different pattern (layout) on each device. An iPhone ≠ iPad ≠ MacBook ≠ iMac. Open resources and the corresponding resource locations are associated with various PROJECTS. The "layout" (pattern of tiles) is unrelated. Users should be able to open & save projects in a variety of layouts across devices & platforms. The user should also be able to save the project in a given layout on each device. This applies to all devices, including mobile.

Personal Book Author box that predictively pre-populates based on authors already in library. (Would keep author names consistent.)

Agree, it's is not well received given the low usage, the community notes are often the sort of stuff that either should be in a personal journal or just a complete waste of time.

They tried community notes in Libronix and it was a failure. This new iteration is just as disappointing.

I kind of avoided this thread, since 'Logos8' really needs some excitement. After watching Now'ing and yawning, I'm pretty much on Logos5 (features).

But before throwing the Faithlife social-baby out, they should re-think it. LogosX maybe. I still argue 'churches' need connectivity. Events, shared this and that, Proclaim, and after-church luncheon plans. Little churches helped by big churches. Connecting to church management, and tax stuff.

Faithlife (only) has the necessary pieces, but never can settle down for simple, fun, and easy to use. Logos-designing is nerd-based (no offense to nerds, of course). There's a large market in declining churches (size) and the need to share.

Here are a few of my top wishes for the mobile app:

1. The ability to search on Greek/Hebrew lemmas from the reverse interlinear Bibles as well as from the Greek and Hebrew Bibles. Lonmg press ono a word, then select "Search" to search by lemma. I know I can get there through much effort with the Bible Word Study, but I would rather have a verse list. A lemma search is the most basic thing I expect from any Bible software and there are competing mobile apps that do this.

2. Ability to open search results in one of the windows, so I can tap on a verse to change from verse to verse in the search results.

3. Default for Search command should be the Bible or other resource that is currently open and active. At the least it should be the default Bible, not whatever collection happens to be at the top of my long list of collections. I hate having to wait for the collection list to populate (it can take 30 seconds) and then it takes a while to browse through a long list to find the Bible I am reading.

4. Mobile layouts that can be saved and reopened.

5. As others have requested, the ability to select what interlinear or reverse interlinear tags to display.

Refresh the Home Screen / sidebar dramatically. It's basically been the same since L4. Get creative. Make it fun, interactive, and fully customizable, especially the sidebar.

Would love to be able to, say, drag a few favorites to the sidebar, then a course or two I like, then a reading plan, then a prayer list, then perhaps see a new scripture from a book of the Bible each day, etc. Let us make the sidebar our own little slice of heaven on virtual earth.

I know there are major changes coming to Notes, But if the notes documents are staying, give us the ability to predefine how the notes are stored in those documents. Allow for simple logic that can be selected which would then directed the notes to a particular document. For example, allow me to predefine that any highlighting to a Bible will be saved in a "Bible notes" document. If I highlight or take notes in a commentary, make those highlights to automatically go to a "New Testament" or "Old Testament commentary" document. If I highlighted in red, allow that to go to a document labeled "important." These are just examples off the top of my head. I know that the faceted browsing of the notes will allow us to access this, butI still don't understand why we can't have predefined actions for particular resources / documents.

Mobile Ed and Proclaim are natural extensions of what you are already doing. Faithlife as a social network and church management software are not.
The fuzzy Bible search is lousy. The response to a lot of early feedback was defensive and mostly just repeated that what we really wanted from the function was not possible with the way it was built. I am sorry you wasted time and money building it in a way that is not compatible with basic user requests, but that does not change the need to look at those requests and go back to the drawing board.

I know that the right-click menu is cluttered enough already, but I would like the ability to select a lengthy passage of text in Logos, right-click it, and copy only a hyperlinked citation to the text without also copying the text itself. When I am writing or doing research, there are many times that all I need is a citation. Having Logos also copy the text of whatever resource I am citing introduces extra/unwanted steps into my workflow. Once I paste into Word, I then to select the text (that I did not want copied to begin with) and then delete it. This only takes a few seconds, but doing it over and over becomes annoying.

For Logos Desktop, please allow users to customize an opened resource panel according to their own visual needs in the following specific areas (listed in order of priority):

Resource Panel Toolbar

problem: As feature buttons are added to the Resource Panel Toolbar not only does the toolbar’s already cluttered appearance become worse, but depending upon a person’s particular eye sensitivities, the likelihood increases that one of the new button designs can be especially distracting.

A prime example of a distracting toolbar button for me personally is the Multiview Resources button. Its busy three vertical line design seems to my eyes to dominate the other buttons on the toolbar as well as the entire panel. It is so distracting that it has prevented me from comfortably focusing on the resource text below it. To avoid this distraction, I reluctantly had to return my purchase of the L-7 Full Feature Set and cancel plans to purchase a Logos Now subscription as well as an L-7 base package.

I am aware of the Reading View mode. It is one of my favorite program features, but it does not adequately address this problem. It can only be opened as a single panel in a full screen mode and many program functions cannot be accessed directly from it.

suggestions: Please consider any one or combination of the following suggestions:

1. Hide entire top row of Resource Panel elements:

Provide a single mouse click option to hide the row of Resource Panel elements located beneath the Panel Tab and above the Locator Bar (book cover icon, reference box, resource panel toolbar, back/forward arrows, history drop-down, and resource info button) while working within a normal multi-tiled workspace. A second mouse click would turn off the hide option.

This would essentially provide a non-full screen “reading view” within a normal size panel of a multi-tiled workspace. It would hide any distracting toolbar button, eliminate toolbar clutter, and increase reading space while maintaining the functionality of all hidden panel elements (including toolbar buttons) only one click away.

2. Hide only Resource Panel Toolbar:

Provide a single mouse click option to hide the Resource Panel Toolbar while working within a normal multi-tiled workspace. All panel elements to the right or left of the toolbar would remain (i.e., book cover icon, reference box, etc.). A second mouse click would turn off the hide option.

This would hide any distracting toolbar button, eliminate toolbar clutter, and maintain the functionality of all hidden toolbar buttons only one click away.

3. Hide individual buttons:

Add an option to hide any individual button within the Resource Panel Toolbar which is visually distracting, seldom used, or routinely accessed through another means (such as a context menu).

This could be done by adding a section within the Program Settings and/or Panel Menu with “on/off” choices for each toolbar button. (see Uservoice section below for link which provides more detailed explanation and important examples.)

4. Select buttons from a set:

Although any one of the default Resource Panel Toolbar buttons could be used, one would not be forced to accept these and could instead select any button from a set of available choices in the same manner as is currently done with the Shortcut Bar.

The set of choices could include one with an empty design which if selected would result in a hidden button. This could be used for any toolbar feature that is seldom used or routinely accessed through another means.

5. Change current Multiview Resources button:

Changing the current Multiview Resources button on the Resource Panel Toolbar to a less distracting button design is urgently needed and would be greatly appreciated, but rather than being implemented alone, this change should be made in addition to one or more of the suggestions listed above which all permit some form of user controlled customization including the hiding of one or all toolbar buttons.

Bible Book Cover Icons

I've been overwhelmed and underimpressed with the whiz-bang bells and whistles that began with L4. However, for those who are decrying their constant and consistent implementation, I wouldn't expect any let up any time soon. Features are $BANK for FL, because they don't have licensing or residuals costs attached to them. FL pockets all the income that features updates produce...which is good for them, but of no consequence for me. I have a short laundry list of wants that has existed since the first week that L4 came out, and today it is pretty much as long as it was back then. Since Bob was nice enough to come on the forum and personally shoot down pretty much every one of the desires I have in order, I have simply learned to grind my teeth in quiet solitude (except for an occasional and increasingly less common forum rant).

However, I did find something to be ever so slightly hopeful about in this thread, in that a few others have now voiced a desire for a couple of things I previously pleaded for. One is a "drop down history" button, such as are found on most web browsers and which actually existed in L3.

Bob called them "clutter". For me, they are utterly indispensable, which is one of many reasons I still use L3 as my primary Logos vehicle. They get used constantly, all day, every day. Another thing I've seen requested above is a larger note window. In the ancient chisel and hammer days of L3, the note window could be as large as your screen...

What you see above is a screen-sized pop-up note that appears in L3 when the cursor hovers over the note's icon...and you can't replicate this effect in L6 or L7 either. It would be fabulous if this was made possible in L8, but I won't hold my breath. The ultra-tiny keyhole window that exists for pop-up notes now was a conscious decision that (giving Bob the benefit of the doubt) some underlings managed to convince Bob was a good idea. The reason was because instantaneously appearing, ultra-large, information-rich notes, such as shown above, covered the underlying text. So rather than, you know, MOVING THE CURSOR by a millimeter in any direction to make the offending pop-up disappear, the ability to have a vast trove of material appear on your screen instantaneously to serve whatever purpose you might have was scuttled as "a bad idea"...ironically becoming one of the worst ideas in human history. Now we are considered lucky to have the genius of the "totally inoffensive" and frozen-in-size keyhole note window, which nearly never shows all the info you wish to see without the obnoxious requirement of clicking on the note and opening a whole new window, when an otherwise simple "hover and go" would have accomplished everything you wanted. Ah, progress!!

Something that was included in L3...but only for Logos/FL-created notes [8o|], such as footnotes...was a pinnable note that had a scrolling function. If that user-available feature could be combined with an adjustable window, you could basically create a library in each note you make. Adding these two functions would go a LONG way toward allowing me to comfortably say goodbye to L3. But since I don't expect them to materialize, it doesn't really matter to me what bells and whistles L8 has; they won't get used by me.

I have come to really enjoy listening to audiobooks in the car. I would like more audio bibles for sale, but the BIG new feature would be the ability to listen to your bible reading plan automatically (i.e. It would follow the reading plan from the first reading to the last reading without user input).

When I select with stylus or finger I am not able to get the (copy) option to appear.

2-the popup menu for us note takers would be nice to have the "add to notes file" appear before all of the items which are requiring background work/searching to complete before they populate. My machine is fairly fast modern i7 ssd, etc. but there can be delays just waiting to get to the "add to notes" or "add to clippings" simply because those are some of the last items to populate on the pop up menu.

If they were listed first, then no need to wait for the other things to complete their background tasks bottle necking the population of the static items.

In Hebrew language Old Testament the "1 verse per line" doesn't really do anything when you deselect it.

Other users told me it works in New Testament in Hebrew but not in Old Testament. When you deselect "1 verse per line" the font of the verse number changes size and nothing else happens.

since this works in other languages and other testaments for the same language, seems this is a usability BUG.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but it would be good to either fix the Find feature (Ctrl+F in Windows) in a resource tab, or remove it altogether. In the past I have noted on the forum that it does not work, and have been told that it is not designed to work properly on phrases (more than one word). But recently I have found repeatedly that it doesn't work using just a single word in the find box either - it skips many instances of the word being searched. I have to use a Search tab to do the most basic searches for a word. That isn't a problem, although it is more cumbersome. But the Find feature just isn't working properly and gives misleading results. Please fix it (ideally), or remove it.

IMPORTANT: When it comes to creating Logos books, almost everything worth reading is a PDF, requiring a conversion to Word. Unfortunately, PDF to Word conversion programs invert the Hebrew. This means the Logos user has to spend hours recreating the Hebrew in Word before uploading to Logos... or forgo adding any PDFs to Logos books. Can Logos help with this by either allowing for direct PDF to Logos book upload or creating a Logos PDF to Word app inside Logos that keeps the original languages intact?

There needs to be a Logos PDF to Word converter or Logos needs to have the ability to go straight from PDF to Logos Personal Books. Outside converters reverse the Hebrew making the book unusable inside Logos. Maybe the solution is not even a personal book but a Logos PDF reader that will allow attaching the PDF to Scripture. All the best sir! Idk, just trying to help. I know the issue is more complicated than that. God bless.

Faithlife already includes Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) in desktop applications. CEF has PDF viewer so idea of "attaching" pdf to verse(s) for viewing in Logos is intriguing.

FYI: discussion included a link from Nathan to a dissertation pdf at Marquette. Prince 9.0 (with cascading style sheets) was used to create pdf. Initial attempt to convert pdf using LibreOffice 5.4.2 Draw replicated Hebrew directional issue (left to right instead of right to left).

Can FL provide a quick button / icon on Bibles, possibly next to the parallel resources icon, for the handy, but not well known, quick comparison feature. The feature is accessed by FUNC + F7 now (on Mac), but I can never remember that keyboard shortcut. A quick access button somewhere would be nice.

Could FL provide a more robust set of options for assigning shortcuts to highlighting, and then provide better access to those shortcuts.

Right now, 1-9 and A-Z are it.

Perhaps permitting a OPTION + or SHIFT+CONTROL option with each of these. For example. I use B for blue. A OPTION+B could then be used for another "B" color, such as Brown.

And the ability to change the Highlighting pane to a thinner (very thin) pane that just lists the assigned shortcut keys (and perhaps an assigned graphic / icon) for most recently used styles, like this:

Please permit Preferred Resource Sections, so one can easily tell what resources they have "preferred" for each section, and can also tell when they have no resources preferred for a particular resource type (IE: Dictionaries).

Perhaps each section can be outlined (like below), with a flyover label of the preferred resource section when hovering over it.

Or perhaps there can just be a bold section heading for each resource type, and users can just drag resources to the right section, like so:

2. Search for a text (simple CTRL-F offline type search not a full power search (yet!) - but perhaps fuzzy search)

4. Dictate a note (using Siri)

5. Show reading plans related to bible (e.g. Psalm of the Day)

6. Scripture memorisation (a la Navigators Topical Memory System cards back in the day)

7. Greek/Hebrew word flash cards (like Logos Flashcard app)

9. Various pop-up reminders (prayer list, memorisation, custom)

I have been using the handout feature for sometime. I just found out Logos has made this feature obsolete. I would love if Logos would continue to develop this feature! I am not sure what other people use, but I find the handout feature handy for writing lesson guides for Bible study students. At a minimum, at least turn on the spell checker function and allow users to customize templates. The margin are much too large and impractical, allow adding the author as an option, add footnote controls. In addition, sometimes after I add items fields, the program hangs up not properly displaying the new material correctly. It would be useful if several pages could easily be added to each document

Mobile App: Highlighting Notes

I routinely create several highlighting notes for each book of the Bible I study. Each of these highlighting notes contains highlights saved from a specific custom pallet (e.g., Genesis - observations, Genesis - theological themes, Genesis - Hebrew poetry, etc.). In the Logos desktop app, after I have marked up the text, I have the option of clicking on the visual filter button and selecting any one or combination of the highlighting notes I have created to customize which highlights are displayed. For example, I may select only one highlighting note if I wish to limit my view to only a particular set of highlights. If I wish to expand my displayed highlights, I can select any combination of highlighting notes.

The Android app does not appear to have this filtered view capability. Although it allows a user to select a “preferred” highlighting note where all highlighting done in the Android app will be saved, it does not provide an option to filter which highlighting notes are displayed.

Within the Android app, please provide an option for users to filter which highlighting notes are displayed. This would allow users to select any one or combination of highlighting notes when they don’t wish to view every highlight that has been made within their preferred Bible. It could also be used to hide all highlighting whenever that is desired.

I’m not a beta participant, but I’ve been following the LogosNext V6 Feedback thread with great interest and excitement. Based on screen shots that have been posted and subsequent thread discussion, it appears the bottom toolbar in non-reading view mode contains a button which will immediately take a user to their preferred Bible. This could be a very useful feature; however, the design used for the button is the high contrast blue Logos icon which is inconsistent with the other grey buttons on the toolbar, visually distracting, and confusing because the image implies something other than a Bible access function.

Please change this button to a non-distracting grey book image which matches the other buttons along the
toolbar and better conveys a Bible access function.

If I understand what you are looking for, there was a bit of a hack some years ago employed by someone suggesting that you create empty personal books with the titles that you are looking for and then use them in the priority list to create dividers. Quick way to turn off Visual Filters when opening a Bible resource (possibly open resource with key to disable visual filters). If Visual Filters is checked, then application automatically searches and applies them so trying to show Visual Filter menu can wait on searches being done.

7.11 Beta 2 annoyance:

Opening a Perseus resource => https://ref.ly/logosres/pausgk?ref=Pausanias.Paus.%2c+Gr.+Descr.+5 provided many minutes of spinning beach balls while automatically applying Logos Greek Morphology visual filters. Unchecking one was likewise followed by minutes of spinning beach balls, which delayed unchecking more visual filters (had to wait for one filter's highlighting to be removed before user interface would allow another one to be unchecked).

Dreaming of an option to open a resource without automatically searching/applying visual filters.

Search version desire is remembering parallel result version(s) for various resource searches: e.g. Bible(s) when searching Bible. Apostolic Fathers when searching Apostolic Fathers => Sync Apostolic Greek Lemma search and Display English version in parallel

Changing resource to search from Apostolic Fathers back to Bible(s) currently leaves parallel version (for resource results) with last chosen resource.

Currently can search for a word with specific pointing. Hebrew words can have article, conjunction, preposition attached. Lemma can be found in many Hebrew words, but finding specific pointing of a lemma in many words is challenging.

It would be amazing. My guess is that it would require three things:

A publisher or publishers that provide 3D models for maps, artifacts, buildings, etc.
3D print functions - including drivers for the most popular 3D printers - built into the Windows and Apple operating systems
The availability of production grade software libraries to support 3D printing that software developers can incorporate into their applications

I have no idea how close we are to having all three, but my general sense is that we're not there yet.

When reading through a resource, I find the process of looking up the definition of English words quite frustrating--especially when using the double-tap method which supposedly streamlines the process by skipping the pop-up menu you first get if right-clicking on a word. Specifically the fact that Logos transfers the "Active Window/Tab Status" (AWTS) from the resource I'm reading to a dictionary, requiring me to manually reselect the window/tab of my primary resource to transfer the AWTS status back there so I can continue reading after getting the definition. While I find this unnecessary and a bit frustrating when reading resources that only require an occasional word definition lookup, I find it really, really, really frustrating when reading resources that require me to do a lot of lookups.

While transferring the AWTS to another window may make sense with a lot of features in Logos, I don't think this is necessarily the case when looking up the definitions of English words. At the very least, there should be an option in the preferences to display the definition in a dictionary window "WITHOUT" transferring the AWTS status to the dictionary.

I'd also like to see the speed improved when using the double-tap method of word definition lookup. Logos is by far the slowest of the three Bible apps I use in this regard.

I know ...in the "big picture" of life, as far as problems go it's a tiny, minor, speck. But I'm running into it again today and it feels like the speck is in my eye, [:'(] and I haven't even finished my first [C] yet. [;)]

Discontinue all or almost all of the Portfolio -levels of Libraries. Why? The push seems to be towards offering this level for most of the denominational lines and also the standard line. There must be a limited number outright purchases of this level of a very broad bundle and they seem to be so broad that I think other, more specific or discounted bundles should suffice for potential customers of all the Portfolio -levels. And then there's Collector's but that's fine: A few will want to do a large purchase in one go not having to to piece it together and and for them who can do it it's a cheaper way in the very long run, to get a very large library, than piecemeal purchase of collections and bundles, so they should have this option left still. However, there doesn't need to be anything in between Diamond and Collector's. For those who simply can't afford Collector's there's still two options: Either buy two different Diamond Libraries, or buy one Diamond Library now, and during the next major version after that upgrade with yet another for example Diamond Level library. So with a discontinuation of Portfolio I would expect only some amazement regarding the step taken, not much dissatisfaction if the decision would have been combined with making some Diamond level Libraries even better than now, for Logos 8 and Verbum 8.
Keep up the good work of re-shuffling low- and mid-level base-packages. It was succesfull in version 7: Like I wished for during the previous phase of polling for opinions for the major forthcoming version i.e. 7, academic titles were introduced on low levels and there's more scholarly quality/freshness in mid-level (which also two Years having elapsed demands), without an overdose of commentaries, yet there's still something for a start. I made the bulk of my base-package purchases since L2 (Lvl 4 and Catholic Collection) and L4 OLL, under this current version 7 which shows my contentment. I'm a person who is not easily convinced or easily fooled, so please whatever You do, DON'T emphasize the total number of resources new to a user - at least not as a plain number under a certain level - put a disclaimer on all the base-package product pages advising something to the effect that the sheer number of volumes is not to be taken as (the only) indication of suitability (this would also make it easier to talk to those totally unfamiliar with Bible Study software or who don't collect books, about the benefits when the simple number of total resources doesn't shine through too glaringly), - because that number is non-desriptive of both value and quality.
To me, choosing commentaries is akin to choosing English Bible versions. Please don't over-stuff the Christmas surprise sock with full or NT-only commentary -sets and English Bibles!! They are really a major turn-off for me!! I mean this. I just won't buy if NIV11 and CSB16 are both there in most base-packages. If You can't think of any other way: Please make base-packages slightly customizable: That customer can when wanting to order drop off one or two English Bible versions for a $1 deduction each, and drop off one NT-only-commentary set for a deduction of 1/33 of the regular price. Those droped off ones would not even technically be licensed. I can't find interest in any of the major sets that don't have under my own main account that I actually use in Bronze-Gold, particularly Standard-line Libraries, partially because I have some of that elsewhere under other platforms and some printed matter.
Please highlight more of the very most recent and top-pick content! As of now a handful of resources shows at once with a picture on the base-package product-pages, that's not enough, it would also be better to for example put all resources written and copyrighted in 2013 and newer in bold font, except English Bibles, to make it easier for those who lack enough time eyeing the list or those like me who will do a thorough calculation if enticed but for now only want a very quick glance.

Allow visibility in search-results of what has been newly added to the library: I would like to see a mode added as a feature, when searching collections, where it would be possible for results to be highlighted or categorized, I would like to have favourite searches (i.e. with search terms) saved and whenever I add a new resource to the collection (either manually or when I've bought a new resource that goes under the collection) the search results that come from those newly added resources, would be marked as "new". I suggested this too on Dec. 13. 2016: highlight searches in collections
Mouse over Church Father reference - pop-ups from Worship Early Church: Anthology Historical Sources It's about the resource: Worship in the Early Church: An Anthology of Historical Sources, www.logos.com/product/31154/worship-in-the-early-church-an-anthology-of-historical-sources which I would like to compete with that ordinary ECF:s -series that has long been widely available.
I want Logos to enable that when I have prioritised something in the Worship in the Early Church -series, that references to certain Church Fathers verses, would pop up from it, when hovering the mouse over a reference. I originally suggested this in Nov. 2013. I'm sure this would be a LOT more appreciated feature than the current vote-count tells, I guess this set also sold something when it was featured during one of the Months last Autumn.
Almost last but not least: Even though it has at the moment slowed down: Please further slow down putting new titles to start to gather interest on pre-pub. It will not pay to put through new books with a constant high pace. There are costs that can't be avoided: Such as negotations for whether a resource is candidate for that in the first place, writing good product pages (good such pages in itself is an asset of Faithlife), manhours for deciding all the prices and the progressivity of it. And a product that doesn't make it, causes disappointment - now that can't be avoided and it may be even more disapointment if a resource was never even a candidate in pre-pub, but still: No matter how few of the total number of books can even be spoken of in the same sentence, we already have many tens of thousands live products in the store-fronts, they are so many that Faithlife WILL struggle a bit to manage all that's already available.
Maintaining what's being offered costs and I think that's the least avoidable factor of all things.
So what I mean is: Just because a product probably will make it through the funding through pre-pub doesn't make it self-evident in the least that it must be put there in the first place. Please scrutinize before testing the waters with too many items!
Once the products ship they are there forever, sometimes requiring maintenance, sometimes incurring costs and often having to be re-negotiated with publishers becaus of some espect be it quality, price/share, marketing, bundling, etcetera. Hundreds of almost identical choices for one popular topic or book of the Bible will also eventually be more of a turn-off for some than attract customers who really want to spend.
So instead of trying to introduce more that can potentially (i.e. just theoretically) be bought, hone the product, put a lot of work into quality re-shuffling so that the real value and benefit of what's being marketed the most stays high. I commend You for having made the software a bit faster - which I know was very hard and peristent work and for which we can also be to some part thankful to the (potential of and ongoing development of the programming-environment of) operating systems.
Instead of the usual generally aggressive approach and development, take a step back. Don't be in constant fear of the size of the ship: I can imagine what it feels like to have such a multifaceted product with maintenance costs and dependant mostly on demanding customers with thousands of $$ to put into it each. But just let go of some of the fear anyway because the current picture You get of Faithlife as a customer from how it is to be one on a practical level having to for example comb through the store and forums at least Weekly is that what's offered and particularly what's potentially offered new, changes constantly in so unpredictable ways, that it's a bit hard to know what to even wish for regarding new books. So many different approaches to marketing and sales-campaigns and bundles has already been tried out, that I would suggest You look a bit at what worked and do that again! A large part of customers will notice when both the company is happy and the customer is happy. To make room for what works, stop with some that feels like mandatory and traditions. Don't be a slave to two-Year major version releseas: It's unsustainable: Some base-packages are still with version 6 features and You want to put through version 8 in less than a Year? There are more base-packages being assembled than ever before and You renew them as fast as ever? I don't think that's sustainable, do You? I know sometimes overly long contracts can in themselves be more effort but I doubt impossible! Two Years just seems a short time for bundling-contracts, although I'm not specialized in that. But with the growing platform and abundance of choices and how it showed in that Journal bundles took a while to produce, I still suspect two Years honestly is a bit too short time for a new major version release! I know feature-wise it's more floating now with Logos Now and Verbum Now - I'm a customer.
Oh, and make a separate column for prioritizing Scripture, under the Library -button in the desktop software. Or at least that's what I would use, and make the Scripture prioritations easily sharable through Documents or faithlife.com (as You can tell I use different versions for different parts).

The fuzzy Bible search is lousy. The response to a lot of early feedback was defensive and mostly just repeated that what we really wanted from the function was not possible with the way it was built. I am sorry you wasted time and money building it in a way that is not compatible with basic user requests, but that does not change the need to look at those requests and go back to the drawing board.

I have, for years, wished for a "purchased date" library field (you'll see it if you open the spreadsheet in my signature), but with FLC and other subscription considerations, the field should be called "first accessible" or something like that and the license type field should have values of "owned", "subscription", "preview", and "rental" (at least).

Faithlife must have this info, and I agree it would be very useful to have in the library.

Currently using a custom series for Top 2 Commentaries, which would be quite time consuming for conversion of individual volume prioritization since cannot drag & drop an individual volume (in a series) from library into Priority list.

Please pardon my lack of understanding. Do U not already prioritize individual volumes using Top 2 Comms., thus putting them in to this system would work??

My custom Series for Top 2 Commentaries is prioritized. Of the 172 volumes in my custom Top 2 series, 171 came from other series. Removing custom Series would reset those volumes back to their original Series. Right click on an individual volume has "Prioritize this resource" in pop-up menu, which places that resource at the bottom of Priority list. Screen shot has scroll indicator circled to show lots of prioritized items between Top 5 Bibles and bottom of list (so dragging 171 volumes into correct place would be quite time consuming along with needing advanced prioritization to skip over non Bible indexing). Contextual menu in a Bible has reference on left side with Top 5 Bibles section (at bottom of contextual items on right side). Contextual wish is Top 5 Commentary/Notes section addition (work around is Explorer tool, which is easier to use than scrolling left side context - dreaming about contextual customization so could change Top 5 from last to first).

Screen shot shows My Top 2 Commentaries, which have Top2 Tag and custom Series. Prioritize has many advanced Bible Prioritizations (e.g. 2017:CSB) so a reference in that Bible opens link in that Bible (instead of highest Prioritized). My highest prioritized set of commentaries are UBS Handbooks with advanced prioritization for Bible and Bible (GNT) links. Bibliographic and English headwords are prioritized later. Volumes in custom Top 2 series have three kinds of Bible indexing: Bible, Bible (BHS), & Bible (VUL-W) with other indexing prioritized later: English, Jerome, Latin, & Transliterated.

I wrote a big long post on it here -- but the summary is allow people to self-publish to the Logos platform like Amazon does with self-publishing to the Kindle, or like apps to the App Store.

Brings a new revenue source for Logos while greatly expanding resources available - especially for other languages. Which will make it hard for other platforms to ever keep up, and thus making Logos stronger.

I agree, getting my books up on Amazon is a lot easier than via FaithLife eBooks

Refresh the Home Screen / sidebar dramatically. It's basically been the same since L4. Get creative. Make it fun, interactive, and fully customizable, especially the sidebar.

Would love to be able to, say, drag a few favorites to the sidebar, then a course or two I like, then a reading plan, then a prayer list, then perhaps see a new scripture from a book of the Bible each day, etc. Let us make the sidebar our own little slice of heaven on virtual earth.

How about Faithife TV as an alternate L8 home page?

Let us be able to apply themes to the home page to change it up a bit, much like one can do in Windows.

That is a good stopgap measure, but it should be built in already. On a side note: Make sure to quote who you are responding to! Better, quote the specific part of the post you are addressing. For example:

I love all the changes that have been mind, but my most desired features still aren’t in place. 2 of the above 4 felt a bit extravagant but are available in ”competitors” (dead and alive). I thought points 1 & 4 were a shoe-in, though. Being able to actually look at the pictures in the books we’ve bought seems so incredibly basic to me that it blows my mind that we still can’t do this (on desktop or mobile), and arcing kept coming up in surveys etc so I thought it might be near the top of the pile too. Ah well.
