β2 is extremely processor hungry

Perhaps what this is telling us is that the architecture of those older machines prevents the processor from having to hit 100% to process the data. The HD and RAM and FSB simply isn't fast enough to overwhelm the processor. Ironically it would appear that my Core2Duo is actually the bottleneck in my system as it often hits 100% during indexing. On the bright side the number of hours my laptop actually spends indexing is less than what most people have reported. It would be nice if it could be set to do it in the middle of the night and not whenever it feels like it.

Try Advanced system Care. It is good at taking back Ram from applications that are not using it.

Is that a feature of Vista / WIndows 7 or a Third Party Utility ?
