Course Numbering Questions

I understand the "OT", "NT" , "AP" etc part of the course titles.

But do the numbers mean anything in particular? 

Are the 100 series for under graduate, 200s for graduate level and 300s for doctorate level courses?

When considering a series of courses should I start with the lower numbers then work towards the higher numbers? Do they build on each other.

Does lower number to higher number mean anything when moving to a different letter prefix?
