FYI-

I've noticed a couple of courses recommending the older version of The IVP Bible Dictionary Series  - the volume on Jesus and the Gospels.

Yeah, I asked support about that, and they said the new version doesn’t change the articles much so it should be ok.

    Wish the courses would update!

We decided not to update courses that have links to the 1st edition. The 2nd edition of IVP's Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels is really a completely different resource. According to the description "Over ninety percent of the articles have been completely rewritten, and the rest thoroughly revised and updated." It is not really a situation where the 2nd edition completely erases the 1st edition.

When a new edition of a book comes out and does replace the previous edition, we do add links to both versions so users can access the previous edition if they already owned it or purchase the new edition if they do not. For example there are some courses that link to both the 2nd and 3rd editions of Millard Erickson's Christian Theology because the 2nd edition was the only one available when we shipped the course, but now the 3rd edition is the only edition available.

In this case both editions of Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels have independent value and are still available for purchase. Additionally, a course may have linked to an article in the 1st edition for a specific reason. If the article has been rewritten in the 2nd edition, then that link may not be as relevant. Links to the 1st edition may also link to a subsection of an article that doesn't exist in the 2nd edition because the article is organized differently.

Good information Miles.  I appreciate it.  Now I see that at some point I need to get the first edition of IVP Dictionary.
