Logos 8 crashes upon startup
The startup logo shows for a second then the app closes. I used the application last week but it does not startup anymore. I checked for crash log, but the crash does not produce a crashlog in the "Logos Log Files". I uninstalled the program then reinstalled. It produces the same crash. My computer was purchased last year and it's well maintained and updated (I am a computer tech.) Thank you!

What specific OS? Have you tried loading to a blank layout?

I am currently running WIndows 10 Home. It won't even go into a layout. Logos 8 startup logo appears then the process is killed immediately. I am not running any Antivirus program other than Defender. Thanks.

Opening to a blank layout bypasses opening to a layout! I believe on Windows you press and hold the control key immediately after trying to startup

I tried that as well but with same result It's frustrating as I have been using Logos without any issues since Logos 6. I had no problem using it last time which was last Saturday.

AFAIK nothing had changed on the computer since last Saturday other than the recent Windows 10 patch and video card driver update. I could try to uninstall the last Windows patch. My other programs seem to be running normally except Logos 8.

Appreciate your help JT! Fortunately, I am able to pull my resources through bible.faithlife.com and finish prepping my lesson for tomorrow. Hopefully, my issue will be resolved soon one way or another. I am really stumped that Logos 8 is crashing without logging the error or the cause.

Try to repair Logos Programs and Features in Windows Control Panel (right-click the program name and choose Repair).
Please provide a zipped version of your log files folder as per instructions in https://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging

Hi Dave, I already tried repairing the installation and it didn't fix the issue for me. Here is the log files folder zipped after enabling logging.

ISSUE SOLVED:
The latest update to Windows 10 was causing the crash. When I uninstalled the update, Logos 8 launched normally.
The culprit was:
2019-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64-based Systems (KB4515384)

It hasn't caused a problem with v8.8 beta 3. I'll try on 8.7 in the morning.

To be sure I installed the KB4515384 update again and Logos 8 began crashing again. Windows 10 update has broken something at least on my end. For now, I am uninstalling the update.
Are beta releases available for all users?

There are no known conflicts between this update and Logos 8. (I have it installed without problems.)
Are you using a non-U.S.-English version of Windows 10? Perhaps that makes a difference?

Yes; see download links here: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/184904.aspx
Normally we recommend only installing on a dedicated testing machine in case the beta that contains bugs that disrupt your workflow. (It is not possible to downgrade from a beta to the stable version without completely uninstalling the program.)
There are also no specific changes in 8.8 to improve compatibility with the latest updates for Windows 10, so it's very unlikely that updating to Logos 8.8 Beta will improve things.
I'm seeing a number of articles about crashes with that Windows 10 update, so it may be best to keep it uninstalled for now.

The faulting module d3d9.dll appears to have been updated by KB4515384, but the file size is very different to what MS state. In Windows\System32 mine is 1.75 MB, version 10.0.18362.329, English (US). It does not cause problems for v8.7 SR-2/8.8 beta 3.

Hi Dave, I checked the d3d9.dll version prior to updating and discovered that it was indeed updated from version 10.0.18362.267. The KB4515384 patch updated the d3d9.dll to 10.0.18362.329 as you said.
I copied the d3d9.dll file prior to the update into the Logos\System installation folder. Logos 8 is working fine WITH the latest Windows update now. Thanks for all the help everyone.
If anyone is having a similar issue, d3d9.dll version 10.0.18362.267 is working fine and I made a copy of that file in case my other programs have similar issues.

I am having the same problem. I use it everyday and nothing has changed on my end until this morning when it stopped at the Blue Logos 8. I asked tech support if they know of a problem on their end and they have yet to reply.

Hi Todd,
There are many reasons why Logos might crash on startup--some are known and some aren't. First, try restarting your computer, that might clear out some cobwebs. Second, try starting to a blank layout. On Windows, press and hold the CTRL key immediately after starting Logos. On a Mac, use the CMD key.
If that doesn't help, then:
1) Start a new thread with details of what you are experiencing (your problem may or may not be the same as the one in this thread, so it's best to start a fresh thread). Include such things as the version of the Operating System you are using and also the version Logos as listed in "About Logos."
2) Collect the Logos logs and post them here in the thread (as well as email them to tech support). See my signature for instructions on how to collect and post logs.

After reading everyone's posts, I performed a windows update and something called netframe {SP?} was updated and now Logos 8 works. Thank you for your assistance.
