Logos to EndnoteX
If you want to convert your Logos bibliography of books to EndnoteX format, here is how to do it. Most of this post deals with fixing the Import Filter in EndnoteX.

Using CJ Ransdell's suggestion from the above blog, I exported from Logos using the Refer/BiblX style and then in EndnoteX, I used File->Import with the Refer/BiblX style selected for the Import Option field. However, the result had numerous "%7 electronic ed." added to the end of the "Publisher" or "Volume" field in EndnoteX. What was happening is that EndnoteX was not recognizing %7 as the "Edition" field and so it was just adding the info to the end of the field. So I made the following changes to get it to import correctly.
Within EndNote X3:
(1) Edit->Import Filters->Open Filter Manager ("EndNote Import Filters" window appears)
(2) Scroll down to ReferBibIX and press Edit ("ReferBibIX" window appears)
(3) Now click on Templates and select "Book" under Reference Types field at the top
(4) Change the last line as follows: %Y to %7 and in the adjacent field "Notes" to "Edition"
(5) Change the second line as follows: Leave %B as is, and change the adjacent field from "Notes" to "Series Title" -- you can use the Insert Field button to save on typing.
(6) Close and save as "ReferBibIX-Logos"
When you import the Bibliography text file that you saved from Logos, choose "ReferBibIX-Logos" in the Import Option field. If you notice any other fields that are not properly imported, please post it here.
Given the two field changes above, I think that all of the data transferred. The series title is really important to see commentary sets. Journals, such as _Evangelical Review of Theology_ and _Biblical Archaeologist_ are exported as books by Logos, but since these are not journal *articles*, and Endnote does not have a field for an entire journal, it is not a big deal.
The only other strange thing is that exactly 30 of my resources did not come into EndnoteX. I don't know why this is. I looked through the exported text file from Logos and everything was listed as a book, so I don't know what the problem is. I have too many resources to figure this out by a process of elimination. The only thing I can think of is that some of my oldest resources may not have associated bibliographical data.
Unrelated to the above, I'm curious if anyone knows of a standard approach for citing Logos books (CMOS or otherwise). "Electronic ed." is just too vague at this point IMHO - it is no different than stating "physical book" which doesn't help much. My thinking is that "Logos electronic ed." would be the best way to cite Logos resources to differentiate them from PDFs, Kindle Books and the many others that exist. What do you think?

As to your query about differentiating Logos resources from the rest, what about "Logos ebook" for the citation, since ebook is how Logos refers to individual volumes? It's really just a cut-down of your name.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad that the post was helpful. It took me some time to figure out everything and I have good computer skills, so I wanted to help others avoid repeating all that effort. I actually posted the same thing in the comments section for that blog entry. However, Logos did not allow the posting--I have no idea why, except that they may have felt it was too focused on EndnoteX.
Once I worked through the issues of the transfer itself, it seemed that Logos has some problems of their own with the bibliographical info, or more accurately the vendor who created the books. For example, I have 187 resources that have no author name, but many of them clearly have authors. Then I also have 122 duplicates. In some cases, these look like separate works in Logos but the bibliography is not adequately unique to distinguish the books. Finally, I mentioned in my original post that 30 resources did not transfer at all. Did you have anything similar, or did all of your titles transfer into EndnoteX?
“Logos ebook” is not bad. I was just trying to stay close to a standard like CMOS or Turabian. Something really needs to be done to put some standard in place, especially with all the electronic resources that exist these days.

I followed up all your instructions with my EndnoteX4 but almost all the references appear with a "%0 Book" in them. Do you know how to solve this?

Hi Nelson, I see what you mean. I also upgraded to EndNoteX4 (version 4.0.1) and used the same import filter from before, and many of the publishers field showed up like this "Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. %0 Book." The problem this time around is with Logos4. In short, they have added three spaces in front of every instance of "%0 Book" and this causes problems. There is a simple fix shown in step 3 below. Because Logos4 has changed the export screen, I have added new instructions from the start. I am using Logos 4.1 SR-4.
Step 1: In Logos4, create a collection of all your resources.
Go to Tools > Collections and click New. Give it a name like All, and then enter rating:>=0 into the “Start with resources matching” box. This will find all resources with a rating of 0 or higher, which is equivalent to all resources. If you don’t want to export all of your resources, create a collection of just the ones you want. (Thank you CJ Ransdell for this!).
Step 2: In Logos4, export your collection to a text file.
With that collection opened, click on the panel menu and choose “Print/Export.” The Print/Export window will appear. On the left, choose "Bibliography only" and then choose Refer/BibIX Style under that. On the right Export panel under "Save as file:" choose "Text Document." Give your file a name like "AllLogos", and save it to your desktop as a .txt file.
Step 3: In Windows Notepad (or another text editor), fix the text file you just exported from Logos4
For some unknown reason, Logos4 has added 3 spaces in from of one of the fields. You need to replace all occurences of " %0 Book" with "%0 Book" in a text editor. In Windows, this is fairly easy. Just open the AllLogos.txt file in Notepad, choose "Edit->Replace" and in the Find What field type " %0 Book" (you need 3 spaces at the start) and in the Replace With field type "%0 Book" (no spaces at the start). Place your cursor at the start of the file and then press Replace All. Then save and exit the file.
Step 4: In Endnote X4, create a "ReferBibIX-Logos" import filter
Peform the following in Endnote X4
(a) Edit->Import Filters->Open Filter Manager ("EndNote Import Filters" window appears)
(b) Scroll down to ReferBibIX and press Edit ("ReferBibIX" window appears)
(c) Now click on Templates and select "Book" under Reference Types field at the top
(d) Change the last line as follows: %Y to %7 and in the adjacent field "Notes" to "Edition"
(e) Change the second line as follows: Leave %B as is, and change the adjacent field from "Notes" to "Series Title" -- you can use the Insert Field button to save on typing.
(f) Close and save as "ReferBibIX-Logos"Step 5: In Endnote X4, create a new Endnote Library and Import the Text File from Step 2&3
(a) Create a New Endnote Library with a name of your choosing (File->New), and then click File->Import->File... .
(b) Choose "ReferBibIX-Logos" in the Import Option field.
(c) Then click "Choose..." and select AllLogos.txt that you saved from Logos (and modified in Step 3)
(d) Depending on the number of resources that you are importing, this may take a few minutes.Note that if Logos fixes things in the future, Step3 may not be needed.

Thank you Shawn. This time worked perfectly. Now, I have my logos library in Endnote. By the way, what I have to do to add new books from Logos4. I guess the instructions in the collection window are the only difference (instead of >=0). Blessings

That's a good question about adding new books that you purchase in the future, especially since you might improve the existing EndnoteX export of Logos and therefore not want to delete all that work. Is there a way to create a Logos group based on a date that the books were added to your library? If so, I do not know how to do this.

Now that the settings have changed some I have to ask about the newer versions. Are there any changes that need to be made for EndNote X6 and Logos 5? I just upgraded everything and realized that I would like to add my Logos library to EndNote. I can easily add in all my library books, with time, but I wasn't sure about the e-Library. I have a few thousand books in the library so I may have to just add the few that I am using at that time and gradually add in my library like that. However, if there is a solution then I'm all ears.
