United Bible Societies Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew
This Personal Book contains the Hebrew-English Dictionary of the United Bible Societies, which has been released with a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/), so this text has the same licence. The data files that I have converted to the docx format to be used by the Personal Book Builder of Logos can be found at https://github.com/ubsicap/ubs-open-license/tree/main/dictionaries/hebrew . The dictionary is the equivalent of about 3600 A4 pages, so there is a lot of information there!
Information about the dictionary from the United Bible Societies: This dictionary is extracted from the Semantic Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew (SDBH; © United Bible Societies 2000-2023) and contains the lexical analysis for each available entry, with definitions, glosses, all Scripture references, and lexical semantic domains. SDBH is an ongoing project and to date around 90% of all words found in the Old Testament are included. The remaining 10% will be added once they become available.
There are also versions to French, Spanish, and Chinese (simplified and traditional). However:
- The translation by UBS is partial, so expect quite a bit of English in the glosses and definitions.
- I haven't translated the parts in bold that I added ("In LXX", "Part of Speech", "Inflection", etc), because I don't know them in other languages. If someone wants to send me a translation of them, I can modify the file so it is a bit less in English.
- I haven't translated the abbreviations of the books of the Bible. I could have, but I was not sure if Logos would have still automatically understood and hyperlinked the Bible refences.
- When you use the Personal Books tool in Logos to created the Personal Book, you probably should change the language to French, Spanish, or Chinese.
If you find any problems or improvements you can write a message in this forum or write me an email at richard at the domain in my signature. Note that the UBS Dictionary of the Greek New Testament is also available as a Personal Book, at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/219974.aspx .
To make the Personal Book, first download and save one of the files from the link below. Then in Logos open the Personal Books Tool, click "Add Book", put the title "United Bible Societies Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew" (or anything else you want to use), choose the Type: Lexicon (important!), add any other optional information, then "Add file" to choose the docx file you downloaded and saved, and lastly click the "Build book" button.
There will be more than 33,000 warnings, which are about the Hebrew text, but they are not important: the dictionary works well anyway.
Since the files are all more than 4Mb, they are too big to be posted in this forum. You can instead download them from my site.

Sorry, no I don't. I'm good at text conversion, terrible at graphics!

Here are some improved versions of the dictionaries.
- More of the information is tagged, so that Strongs and Louw-Nida numbers link to the default dictionaries for this data.
- The Strongs numbers are milestones, and so appear together with the lemmas in the box at the top left of the tab.
- Hebrew words in “Related Lemmas” are links to the word in the dictionary.
- There is a table of contents.
The dictionaries need to be downloaded from the following links, as they are too large to be attached to a forum post.

A couple more improvements to the dictionaries.
- A field for the Goodrick-Kohlenberger number has been added
- The English dictionary uses the new version of the file provided by the UBS (although as far as I can tell there are only a couple of changes)

That site is also quite interesting: Semantic Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew – UBS Translations
https://translation.bible/tools-resources/semantic-dictionary-of-biblical-hebrew/This is in fact the same dictionary, translated into Portuguese. However, the UBS has only released in downloadable format (and with an open licence) the English, Spanish, French, and Chinese dictionaries. The site you linked to also has Hebrew to Russian and Hebrew to Arab dictionaries. On the other hand, the site where it is possible to download the various dictionaries says, "Other languages will become available once the localization work has been completed.", so maybe the Hebrew-Portuguese dictionary will be available in the future.

Thank you.
When I compile this into a personal book the Hebrew characters for each listing do not display properly (the sole heading letter does show) This is what I get:
Do I need to specify a specific Hebrew font for this to work? (I'm working in Windows 10.)

It looks like it depends on the "Default Book Font" you use in the Settings in Logos. The Hebew text uses the default text font rather than the Hebrew font, so if the default font does not contain italic Hebrew characters, you get what you see. (Logos automatically puts that level of heading in italics, it is not my choice.) So you need to play around with the Default Book Font until you find one that works.

Here are some new versions to the Hebrew dictionaries, thanks to the United Bible Societies posting more data:
- A Hebrew-Portuguese dictionary, for the first time
- General corrections to the text by the UBS
- An explanation of the Lexical Domains and Contextual Domains. The two types of domains are listed at the bottom of the dictionaries, and the domains of each Hebrew word in the main part of the dictionaries are linked to those lists. The lists are not yet complete and are only partially translated, and the Contextual Domains are only in English, but I have included what UBS has done so far.
The dictionaries need to be downloaded from the following links, as they are too large to be attached to a forum post.

Thank you, Richard. This time, the Chinese version produced an error, which prevented the file from compiling.

Thanks for pointing that out. I have found and corrected the error in the docx file. If you download it now (using the same link as before), it will compile without errors.
