Are there any plans to make a native app?

No, and there should not be!

This is such a small market, there should not be even a thought about it.

I sent this to a Logos employee (not Bob) still there way back on 11/10/2020:

"Here’s a theological technological thought... I’ve searched briefly online but haven’t Seen anything. With AR glasses rumored from Apple in the next year or two, what impact could that have on pastor sermon manuscripts? Think preaching mode from logos integrated into the lens so that instead of looking down at your iPad for notes, your words scroll across your lens as you look at the congregation."

Since it was private and he works there, I won’t share his reply (and as far as I know he wouldnt be in the place of making those decisions or designing anything hardware or software) but he wasnt of the opinion that a glasses software platform should simply be ignored.

But personally speaking I think someone inside Logos should at least have this on their radar. It may be years before they reach the weight and size and "normal lookingness" to be something you could wear in public, but that day will likely come. Apple made a Mac, people eventually bought it. Apple made an iPod and people eventually bought it, Apple made a phone and people eventually bought it, Apple made a tablet and people eventually bought it… and I don’t think this platform will be any different.

Give it enough time and the weight and size will come down, the battery life will go up, the power and speed will doubling and the the price will keep half-ing. And when that happens I hope that the software that I have given enough money to that would replace my 300k miles falling apart truck has a team of developers getting something ready

I know your personal background. It is debatable if you are a bigger Apple Fan than me. [:)]

However: The idea that Logos should put even a glancing thought into this not facing reality. There will be no market for it for many years... and the overlap in the VENN Diagram between "Vision Pro" users and "Logos Users" would not be large enough to spit in.

Setting most of that aside: Time and resources are limited. There are many, many, many (did I say "many?") more things that Logos should be focused on in the mobile app development. Heck, even android users should have a bit of help.

Why imho Vision Pro won't be a mainstream solution. I have gaming friends that would back this research conclusion up as well.

A Stanford study of extended use of headsets like Apple Vision Pro shows that users could encounter real-world aftereffects like depth perception issues or simulator sickness.

As stated the cost, ability will eventually come down. Look at the original iphone compared to the iphone 6. I am thinking regular looking shades. For all we know, the humble monitor that we have used for so long may die the death that the Ssd drive is experiencing.

Logos keep it on your radar for when the cost goes down considerably. As a side note, keep working on incorporating ai inside your software. What is being beta tested is a very good start.

I think Apple Vision Pro will mirror your pc or a website. Since logos is already on the web couldn't you use Apple Vision Pro with multiple monitors?

I bought an AVP for this reason 😂… I have the attention span of a squirrel. so I need to be able to zone everything out when I’m doing research or academic papers. Also, when I do the digital nomad thing, it will be easier and more useful than bubble wrapping an extra 22” monitor in my backpack (what I’ve done for years). It’s not that crazy for them to accommodate. Apple has already outsold their (and everyone else’s) optimistic estimates by 250% (80k estimated at launch, actual over 200k in the US). Especially considering how much base packages cost. Without dynamic pricing, it costs 2X an AVP. If they did even make slight modifications it could be useful. Maybe an interactive study environment, library, church. Interactive media would be cool too. For now I plan on just using with MBP running desktop, then to keep mobile up next to it (Mobile has become so much more powerful in the last few years).

How stable is the beta app? I work in tech (solutions architect), so I’ve considered testing it. But as mentioned above, mobile has become far more powerful. I can do about 90-95% of what I need to day to day on my iPad (and do). The only time I use desktop lately is for academic papers and the finer points of research for them. I suppose I could have both installed since the beta goes through TestFlight, right?

There is. I use it the majority of the time. Even three or four years ago, that wouldn’t have been possible. But it’s become feature rich enough I can use it for all day to day study and intermediate complexity searches. I have it in Vision Pro. Was using it last night. It works amazing… thinking about it, even if the only thing they did in an AVP version was enable the pop up window desktop feature (where you can pop it out of the main logos window and drop it as a second window in any screen), that alone would make the AVP vs powerful. Could surround myself with all my resources and keep the browser with Google docs/in process academic paper in the middle.

It doesn’t give the full desktop experience*** but it is dif than the iPhone app, mainly in layout functionality. Even the phone app has gotten powerful. A handful of years ago, it was pretty much only good for reading a book or resource.

I love not having to get my MacBook to do everything. I prob use the iPad too much now. I have to do camp logos again for desktop. I haven’t done a full training since vs 6. I did the full camp logos mobile for logos 10. I need to make time this week to just push through the desktop vs. it’s changed significantly in recent years.

Now that you have used it a couple days, can you imagine a day when Pastors wear Apple Vision to superimpose "preaching mode" over a view of the congregation while preaching? (Much like there is a "cool factor" for SOME who preach from iPad in lieu of a paper Bible/notes).

I know seminary/grad students who are. Also many people who do intensive research and writing desiring to increase their productivity.

As far as preaching goes, I find Logos to be more useful in preparing to preach than actually preaching. As far as the iPad comment. I see them more often at churches in America than I don’t at this point. A physical Bible and piece of paper isn’t more holy than an iPad with a Bible and a notebook. I think it has little to do with the cool factor and much to do with the convenience factor. I used to travel frequently and plan to again soon. I carted a 50lb suitcase everywhere. On any given trip, at least 25-30lbs of that was Bible/books/concordance/theology textbooks/etc. Now I bring an iPad with a 12,000 resource library in logos with all previous research, and hundreds more in kindle. I also have a closet worth of physical notebooks. I used to drag at least a few notebooks with me too. Now I have the good notes app with a clearly structured library and unlimited notebooks, so I carry those everywhere. I bring my iPad everywhere and it allows me to study, chase a thought, capture notes wherever I am. As much as I loved/love physical books, an iPad makes too much sense not to use it, unless you never leave home.

For preaching, no absolutely not in its current form. For study and research, yes. Logos is primarily a study and research app. The productivity increase is incredible. Truly something out of a sci-fi movie. Someday, when they get smaller and eventually, when they’re the size of a regular pair of glasses, I absolutely could see them adopting For preaching also. It would be less awkward than the teleprompts at some churches.

this is assuredly different for various traditions (liturgical High Church vs. Free Church) and culture (Urban, Suburban, Rural)

no claim has been made about a "holiness factor". I have BOTH a tablet AND dead tree with me for redundancy each week. I have had paper pages blown by a fan causing chaos, and I've had electronics fail during preaching. Through experience I have increased confidence in electronic formats stored on my device (PDF) over those requiring web access or networking (I use local wi-fi connection from my tablet to our Proclaim presentation computer) but there have been times when a reboot of equipment was required during preaching and with dead tree I was able to keep going until the tech team got everything back up.

(prepared each week, note: 8.5 x 11 is for tech team; binder, Bible & Proclaim Remote are in pulpit with me; mini is an "if all else fails".)

You're saying they finally coded an iPadOS specific app that makes use of Apple silicon ( like a Mac has) that does all that the desktop does? I realize look can be different than an iPhone, but I don't think it's a fully adapted desktop version ( fast local searching of fully downloaded library), is it? If so, I must try that out again, and hopefully same would come to Vision Pro, since it has M2 cpu also.

I see preachers use them as "notes" during sermon also a lot.

I didn‘t use Logos for a few years and my library just sat there. When I enrolled in seminary officially and opened it back up, I had upgraded to vs 10 from maybe around 7 or 8ish. I know the last time I used the mobile app, it was primarily good as an e-reader. So I never used it. It’s come quite a long ways in a few years from there. These days, mobile devices are as powerful as computers were even 2-3 years ago. I’m going to hop on the mobile beta out of curiosity. Tue mobile app is significantly more powerful than it once was. The panes functionality on the iPad is great too.

On a different note. Rumor is, Apple is pushing to get a not-pro vs Apple Vision to market ASAP and its well underway, if rumors are true on pricing, it will be about $2k cheaper than the pro version. So the cost of an iPhone pro max. They’re also getting ready to launch the AVP globally it looks like from recent software updates.

Honestly, the killer use case for me on the AVP has migrated to be using it with the laptop. I can't wait for the ultrawide.

On planes, or even just on my couch, it's nice to have my laptop screen with Logos nice an huge and then independent AVP app like music, notes, web browser, Logos app, and others spread around. I wish there were more native apps, but I get why not. This just hasn't been adopted for wide usage.

I feel like Apple isn't doing a good job of telling users the actual best use cases (beyond just consuming media) which is indeed productivity.

I just checked the Apple download site and there is the app available for Vision Pro 1.0 and later so it looks like they did it does anybody have it up and running? Can you tell me what it looks like?

it is the iPad app. Works the same. Not native but just pops up in separate window. I like to have it up while working on my Mac for quick reference

Whenever I need to be productive on my laptop away from my home office, I prefer to do that in the Apple Vision Pro. Most of the time my sole use case is to use my laptop in the Vision Pro with the ultrawide screen. Then I do pop up free floating windows around my environment, like Messages, Logos (for Bible text references), or web browsing etc.

It is amazing for media consumption but I purposefully limit myself from using it this way. I don't want to pull myself away from my family if I'm watching something.

The killer use case is plane travel. It has revolutionized that for me making it super productive.

It is not very good for games.

At first I didn't like wearing it beyond an hour or so, but now if I'm sermon prepping or working on my laptop for an extended time, I don't get tired at all. I've worn it for 8 straight hours before while stuck at an airport.

Hey @Tony Walker I just read through this post of yours, and I think that it's absolutely brilliant. While it would never work with what Apple Vision looks like right now, I think it would be amazing with something like the original Google Glass from years ago. The idea of not constantly looking down at my notes and everything would be amazing! I would have never thought about such an application for AR glasses before reading this. Thank you for putting this into my head where it will now live rent-free until it comes to fruition in some way.
