New Book(s): Ninevah and Its Ruins - Vol 1 & 2 - (c)1849 by Austen Henry Layard
Now I know this can be posted because it is greatly different from a
public domain work that is on Logos. Part of a collection even, but from
what I can determine this is the original work by Layard (unabridged) and
the copyright is 1849. There is a similar version on LOGOS, but the one
on Logos is an abridged version of what I am posting. This is part of a
two volume set by Layard. Because I don't have the LOGOS version to
compare I cannot determine what the actual differences might be. The
LOGOS version is abridged in 1851 by Layard himself from the version
below. I imagine the English in the LOGOS version might have been updated
but most likely doesn't include all of this version dated from 1849. I can tell
you that this 1849 edition of this Volume One of Two has less than 250 pages
in WORD. Tried to keep the Images and Illustrations as small as possible. Also
tried to cut down on empty spaces, large fonts, etc... or the size would be
more than 250 pages, and this is just the first volume. Also, the newer Second
Volume (not sure) on LOGOS has a date of 1882. Considerably smaller than
the original Second Volume which I have started. Not sure yet how many pages
on this one.
Also, have included a picture from Volume One below. Don't know if it is
in the LOGOS ABRIDGED Volume. But there is a difference. I do know that the
second Volume has a copyright of 1849 as well. The 1882 abridged edition is by
a different company than the publisher of the original 1849 work(s). Just don't know
what they left out.. Here are both volumes below......
NINEVEH AND ITS REMAINS -- Volume 1 of 2.docx
NINEVEH AND ITS REMAINS -- Volume 2 of 2 -- (c)1849.docx
Volume 1 is approx. 22 MB in size. Volume 2 is about 58 MB. So, about 80 MB.
I have not edited any of the English in this work, other than to change the font
and/or font sizes. If there are any grammar mistakes, etc... from the 1849 edition,
then I left them as I found them. Most of that is probably due to the British form of
English from 175 years ago.... There are a few errors, but they do not prevent the
work from being compiled successfully. I compiled both Volume together, or you
can compile them separately if you prefer.
Here is a cover image (from my Google Search).
Note: Volumes 1 and 2 together have about 21 chapters, not counting the extras
such as Appendixes in Volume 1. Part 1 is split up between Volume 1 and 2 and has Fourteen
chapters. So, Volume 2 has: Part 1, chapters 11-14 plus Part 2, chapters 1-7. There are
no appendixes in Volume 2, just in Volume One. There are also a lot more graphics, images,
and/or illustrations in Volume 2 that are not in Volume 1. There are a little less than 600 pages
between the two volumes.
