Differentiate between footnotes and abbreviation expansions in resources

Please stop including abbreviations as footnotes when copying into Word, etc.

When users copy from a resource such as BDAG, they don't want to include dozens of abbreviations as footnotes but they may usually want to include true footnotes. Users need to turn the setting on and off generally in order to get it to work properly (or tediously individually delete all unwanted abbreviation footnotes).

Abbreviations should not use the footnote field but should instead use a new abbreviations field.

There should be a new setting called Copy Abbreviations that defaults to No.

Absolutely needed. Very frustrating have pages and pages of abbreviations when all you want is the quote

It's a much-needed improvement. In the "settings" of the program, "copy notes" should be a different item from "copy subtitles".

I have been a Logos user for maybe 12 years. I have written about this a number of times before and probably will have to do it a number of times in the future.

If I write a paper and copy text from a work, I want to include the footnotes included in that text. So in settings, I click have to click 'copy footnotes.'

But if that text includes all manner of abbreviations, like a lexicon does, all those abbreviations are also pasted with their meanings. Like this from BDAG:

Ath. Ath. = Athenagoras, II a.d.—List 5

1 Cl 1 Cl = 1 Clement—List 1

ITr ITr = Ignatius to the Trallians—List 1

IEph IEph = Ignatius to the Ephesians—List 1

Hv Hv = Visions

2 Cl 2 Cl = 2 Clement—List 1

fr. fr. = from

So when I copy text to use in a paper, I need to check either that any footnotes in the text are cited in my paper or that a bunch of abbreviations don't show up in my footnotes too.

The fact that Logos can read these abbreviations and give their meaning means that Logos knows which is a footnote and which is an abbreviation, so it doesn't need to combine the two.

I think this is a bug that should be fixed.
