Auto orientation for video files

For proclaim to detect correct orientation of video files or to provide a means of manual rotation - It is especially time consuming to reprocess videos so that they display correctly

Yes - I often find videos straight from a phone (iOS I think) often appear upside down. I suspect there's an issue with metadata as I find they sometimes display correctly in Proclaim on one OS (eg macOS) but not in the other (eg Windows)

I've run into this problem before as well. A manual rotation option would be great! In the meantime, software like Avidemux can rotate the video without having to re-render the video. It can save lots of time and doesn't degrade the quality when using the "copy" options for video and audio.

I have also run into this problem a couple times, especially as they appear fine on my Mac when setting up the presentation, but when we go to present from the windows computer used in the church, the video is upside down. Usually from an iPhone as Jon Hole mentioned... seems to be a Mac->Windows metadata thing. if it can't automatically detect, the ability to quickly fix on the fly would be so very helpful.

Yes this needs to be fixed. We are using Windows MEdia player and it reconizes th evideo as vertical, so does VLC but proclaim uploaded it sideways! That makes little sesnse since it says their video playback is based on the local media player.
On another note, please add VLC Meda Player as an option instead of WMP or in addition. It is open source so may prevent some of the video problems.

  • I am still having issues with video orientation in MOV and MP4 files
  • It's about time Proclaim started to work on this issue...
  • Please fix this, it made a recent Missions presentation into an embarrassing disaster as there was no way in proclaim to reorient the videos. Every other movie player can detect the correct orientation!

is there a way to get the video to display vertically yet?  Proclaim is the only app I use where it automatically rotates it to landscape and doesn't even give an option to fix it
  • We were just discussing this in the FB group. This was just released in update 3.6.0.0009 on Tuesday , March 7 , 2023.
Under the "change video" menu there is now a simple rotate option. While it's not "automatic", it'll give you the orientation you're after 👍
