Please add a new guide section that helps us determine the various kinds of contexts in which we should interpret a passage of Scripture (e.g., literary, cultural, historical, geographical, theological).

I don't understand this request in that I don't see the various contexts as being passage specific. I would understand it, if what is meant is to categorize resources discussing the passage as to type of criticism/context they are applying to the passage.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

@mjespuiva-86 For any text of Scripture you're trying to understand, you need to know how it fits into the author's argument and flow of thought. That's the literary or internal context. I've heard many a verse ripped from its context and used to mean something it never meant. There are also historical, social/cultural, geographical, and theological contexts that texts of Scripture need to be read within. This is one area that we've never directly addressed. Sure, commentaries deal with much of this, but you have to know to look for it and go digging for it. We think it would serve more people by calling more direct attention to the central role of context in the interpretative process.

@phil-gons I agree this is a neglected area that is essential to the interpretive process.

Could you provide a mock-up of what this might look like so that I can understand it better?
