Highlights: Fix bug where sometimes the highlight doesn't stick

Often highlights don't "stick." That is, I will highlight a passage and the yellow highlight will appear as I'm sliding my finger across the screen, but then disappear (and not reappear). Also, the highlighting in general feels slow and clunky, as opposed to immediate, as with the Kindle iOS app.
