original publication dates

The Logos library has the option of displaying the publication date of the resources. But there are actually two publication dates to a book. One is when the book first came out, and the other is that of the edition of the book that Logos is using. Keil and Delitzsch, the famous Bible scholars' books are all given with their original publication dates. all 1800s. But CS Lewis all have recent dates. We would have no idea that he wrote in the 30-50s. Both are important, though not in every case. Now we don't know which we have, which is misleading and not helpful.

I am also interested in the original date of the work, and use it in my resources naming conventions as a sorting tool. Many of our Logos resources are created from reprints of much older works. If that original date is not in the title page or copyright page, I can often find it elsewhere in the resource, e.g., preface or foreword. Sometimes it is very difficult to find. As a last resort I may look in library catalogs to which I have access, and might just have to guess. It's hard to imagine a software solution to this problem.
