Prevent Third Column From Opening

Whenever I click a bible verse in another resource, it opens a tab in a new/third column instead of a tab in the existing column. It's nothing major, but it's annoying because the third column is hard to read, so I just end up closing it and having to resize the columns. Is there a way to fix this or adjust some setting?
