Notes: iPad Note Taking Dialogue takes over 1/2 the screen

Howdy - The Text formatting control in the mobile app on my iPad Pro 11" consumes over 1/2 the screen making note taking a scrunched user experience. Can you please consider making the user experience of this formatting control "slimmer"?
Would a formatting toolbar at the top of the screen is achievable? Or consider how Apple Notes/Pages handles formatting - popup toolbars?
