ability to reply directly to posts

is it just me?

the old forum had a reply option, but the new forum just has a new comment form.

Shouldn't I be able to direct a comment specifically to reply to something someone said instead of just posting a comment?

I have seen some comments that seemed to be directed like that. they use an @ tag. Is that some secret that you have to pick up? That should be right there with those other options below the post.

thank you

    @name is a common internet feature that some found supported in the forum software so others of us followed suit. If you enter @ and start typing a person's forum name, a drop-down list of names and avatars will appear. The other way to specify that your comment is a replay is to use the quote function.

    @M J Smith

    so is this where I put it?

    I would think it would be outside of the comment area

    It can be anywhere in your post … but you need to select it from the dropdown menu for the system to recognize it as a reference to a person. i.e. @Larry Craig

    your name wasn't in the dropdown @MJ. Smith

    good. I'm happy for you

    now it showed up

    call me crazy, but it wasn't there before

    @Graham Criddle

    anyway, the bigger point is that there used to be the option to reply to somebody

    people shouldn't have to learn about this through posting a lot and asking how to do it

    Have you seen the guide that is linked to at the top of the English forum?

    yes, I read it now.

    The point is that the old forum had a reply option. this just has a post option.

    The old forum didn't require reading a manual on how things worked. This one does.

    If I want to include somebody in the discussion, the @ thing is useful. For ordinary replies, it shouldn't be necessary.

    oh, almost forgot @Graham Criddle

    In this forum you would use the quote button. It also gives context to your reply and the forum treats it like a mention with the @ but without the hassle.

    @Larry Craig I'm trying out the sub-quote:

    The old forum didn't require reading a manual on how things worked. This one does.

    A bit chunky design, seems.

    For ordinary replies, it shouldn't be necessary
