The number of times the book is used, I've always assumed.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

The books mentioned in courses (Suggested reading…) and (See also…) are NOT needed "in order to do the course!"

They're just listed there in case you want to go even deeper, but they're not required. You can do the course entirely with just the contents of the course!

The courses come with a Suggested Reading and a See Also section at the end of each lesson.

The open book means you own it, the lock means you don't.

In the Courses tool, the suggested books are the ones referred to above, and the # in parenthesis are the # of times that the book is listed under Suggested Reading/See Also.

Thank you M.J. and DMM. I received/ordered a class that came with the subscription, only to find out there are a number of books I don't have in order to do the course. I wish I knew that before I chose the course that I did.

That's great Theophan, thank you. I've started the course anyway, and was going to proceed with the resources I have.I may have discovered that I didn't necessarily need all the suggested resources as I went. There's so much to learn …Thank you for replying…and MJ and DMM.
