This is the ultimate compilation of his previous books such as Pentateuch (also suggested) and the result of his writing the biblical narrative book also suggested. Logos would be remiss in not including this resource as it is the bestest English translation of the Hebrew Bible ever. I have been waiting for it to come out since the book was released in Kindle. Pls at least put it up as prepub so we can share it with lots of others. Thank you!

Please look inside the book on Amazon's site to get an idea of how good it is. Truly amazing.

  • An absolute must have! I rely heavily on Alter’s efforts, and consider his translation and brief commentary whenever I study OT scripture.

  • Agreed... any movement on this?
  • Please make this available
  • I own this in print and it's superb. It's a fresh modern jewish translation with a sensitivity to the form and wordplay in the original language, and you should handle it with all the care and caution you would from any other one-man translation not done by a committee. But at the same time, as a translator Robert Alter is almost peerless. There are a few others on his level, but hardly any better. Making this old testament available for sale in your marketplace and allowing me to buy it digitally in Logos would turn me into a regular Logos user if I could search the text and footnotes, and access this on my phone.
  • Please make this available!
  • I've been reading this translation and would love to have it within Logos especially with inline interlinear enabled
  • Yes! Would love to see this translation and commentary notes added soon, please!

Just an update on this request. As of yet, the publisher has not been willing to license to us. However, we will not give up, and hopefully we will see this and other titles we would like to develop. Know that we're not ignoring this request, but our hands are tied at the moment.

I would CERTAINLY buy it! The man knows how to write English! His comments on Hebrew writing style are priceless. As a contemporary "author" he appreciates the talent of ancient practitioners of his trade.

I'd like to see Robert Alter's 'The Hebrew Bible' made available in Logos.

His 'The Art of Biblical Narrative' and 'The Art of Biblical Poetry' are already available in Logos, with 'The Art of Biblical Translation' on almost funded for production.

Alter's translation of the 'The Hebrew Bible' and it's incredible commentary would a very valuable resource.

Or rather, hopefully Logos will sense the book's popularity and get going with it!

    Vote added to main thread.

Some books are difficult to get the rights to; don't assume Logos hasn't tried.
