There is nothing special about highlights' length. Words work exactly like sentences and verses. However, single words highlighted are often from an open search or one of the emphasis visual filters is on.

Those are either highlights you manually added or built a visual filter to add. Treat them like your other highlights. They are inductive study highlight styles.

I found out the reason the word Lord was highlighted is because a while back I created a visual filter named "names of God". Hence the highlights “Lord” Word"
