Can someone clarify the base text of CNTTS?

No help here. Libronix had UBS4, so any Logos having UBS3, would be earlier.

I still use the 2010 (and also own the 2021). Interestingly the popup for the base says UBS4.

Plus the 2021 on my Mac is missing his scroll bar handle.

The best member to respond is @Rick Brannan in my view. Although, I don't think he will add much to what Denise has said. Sorry.

The NA26 (= UBS3) text must have been available in other collections as well since I have it in my library.

I think the differences between NA26/UBS3 and NA27/UBS4 are mainly in the apparatus.

Hi @HJ. van der Wal, thanks for clarifying that the NA26 and UBS3 are the same, but unfortunately the NA26 isn't available either. :( Regarding the fact that you have it, I assume you got it a long time ago before NA27 and NA28 came out.

I literally don't know how I can check anything if I don't know what the base text refers to. (When I am looking at the CNTTS, there are certain details I am looking for, so the details do matter).

Maybe since it is so old I should try to find it free online?

Regarding the textual variants package Logos sells which includes the CNTTS, it says "The Textual Variants Tool gives everything you need for textual-variant study" but that is obviously not true if it not only doesn't include a copy of the base text, but the base text isn't even for sale.

Me too! The UBS4 popup is on the 2010; the popup for the 2021 is UBS3. Of course, both versions say they used a base of UBS3.

I get how most people would see the most recent version as better, but seriously, doesn't ANYONE care about textual criticism? There is literally no way to study anything if the "base text" is a secret. (On a side note, I have always faulted the CNTTS for not including a copy of their "base text" as it should have been foreseeable to them that their "base" wouldn't be what most people are using as time went on.

I can't find it anywhere, either NA26 or UBS3. Can anyone find a PDF of either?

Also a hardcore DETAILED list of the changes between NA26 and NA28 would be sufficient, but I can't find that either.

Hi @DMB, could you clarify this about noting the base? If I don't own the base, how can I compare variants? Also, I understand the UBS3 = NA26, and UBS4 = NA27. I normally use the NA28 obviously, but own the NA27 at least, so I think that is probably closer to UBS3 than NA28, but is there a way to know exactly in what way NA27 is different from NA26 / UBS3? All I can find are websites talking but random differences, but there is not a complete list I can find anywhere.

Below is just my usage; on the left is 2021, with 2010 on the right (with USB4 in the middle). The highlighting of variants is per approx-dating and suggested significance. Visually, it's a quick way to see patterns for specific mss's.

In the 3rd column of each CNTTS, I highlight the UBS3 reading-code to quickly see the UBS3 base.

I use a visual filter (sampling below). Of course, it's approximate, primarily for visual patterns.

In the 3rd column an 'O' (zero) indicates the UBS3 reading, relative to below-listed variants.

hi @DMB, no, I didn't since all I see a 0, but it doesn't tell me what the base is. (Outside of it being UBS3 which I obviously don't have). If I am missing something obvious, please show a screenshot if you are able.

In the big screenshot above (cntts's), look on the line with a zero on the 3rd column (I highlight each). Move to the right for the greek. Compare that greek (UBS3) to your UBS4 text (to verify the logic of cntts codes, since you don't have UBS3).

That's why I put UBS4 in the middle.

Well, first, you're in the 'lacunae' summary section of the verse (see CNTTS layout discussion).

Drop down to first word (1 following verse id). As each variant is listed, it's begun (3rd col = 0) by the base text for comparison (along with agreeing mss's).

At the bottom of your screen copy is Rev 11:2-1.0 You'll see a zero in the 3rd column. Move across to the UBS3 reading, followed by matching mss's.

Then listed below will be variants with comment-codes.

And remembering CNTTS has its detractors (meaning use as pointers; verify for quoting).
